Introduction to my review of Soy Lovely Candles:

Soy Lovely is such a darling website to visit with all the ingredients I love… the home page is aesthetically pleasing to look at, lots of descriptive pictures for visual reference along with a nice variety of products to choose from. What more can a candle lover ask for? Soy Lovely offers a few style candles, tins, melts, tea lights and a soy bath and body line that I’m really looking forward to trying. Bath and body is fast becoming my new obsession (just what I need huh?) but it seems like the next logical step in the world of “scent.” My house smells like a piece of cake, then so too must I!!

Soy Lovely has approximately 54 scents (give or take a few) to choose from as well as an Soy Lovely Candle Review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversall soy essential line for aromatherapy lovers. Laurel (owner of Soy Lovely) is always adding new scents to her site so her list is always growing. That’s pretty important to me and I always look for that… I know there are many who prefer small scent lists (and that’s fine), I on the other hand like big, very big! I love variety and tend to migrate towards sites that offer a bigger selection. Laurel is definitely beefing up her scent list and I think it’s a beautiful thing.

When Laurel asked if Candlefind would officially review her products, it was an easy choice deciding I wanted to personally do it. I’d been eyeing her site for so long so here was finally the perfect excuse. For this review, I chose three unique scents called Avocado & Cilantro, Blackberry Gelato and Long Island Pastry.

What do my candles from Soy Lovely look Like?

Soy Lovely Tealights, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversThe packaging from this company is adorable. My Avocado & Cilantro tealights were in clear cups (pretty standard looking), they came 6 to a pack.Soy Lovely Candle Review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversMy Blackberry Gelato candle was a 12oz Soy Elegant jar… it had a cute company label on the face of the candle with raffia tied around the neck of  the jar, this candle had two wicks, the wax color a light purple.

Long Island Pastry was a small 4oz Soy Modern Candle, one wick, wax color a light brown. The melts were scalloped and pretty big. I loved the size of these melts.

How did my candles from Soy Lovely smell?

Avocado & Cilantro

Avocado & Cilantro was THE hit fragrance of the summer in my house!! I love reviewing fragrances that sound unique and this scent (to me) was unique. I mean, I like avocados and all… but who on earth wants their house to smell like one? Um, I don’t, not really! That alone made me want to try this scent just to smell it. And to make it even worse… I really don’t care for scents that have cilantro in the mix either and that’s putting it rather mildly… they literally gag me. So, why in‚ the world did I pick this scent to review? Beats me! I Soy Lovely Candle Review, Avocado & Cilantro scented candle, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversguess you could say it was fate?… maybe… but I rather think it was pure dumb luck because I loved LOVED this scent! Here’s the description from Soy Lovely’s website:

“Multidimensional fragrance of limes, spicy cilantro blended with juicy avocados and mint leaves”

Three words describe this scent for me… fresh, uplifting and soothing. This is gonna be a very hard scent to describe too since to me, it really didn’t smell anything like the description. I couldn’t make out avocado (which is a very distinctive scent)… I couldn’t make out the cilantro or mint either (which in my case was a good thing)… I could tell lime was in the mix (which is why I think it was so fresh) but the lime did not dominate. I think all the ingredients in the scent description were present; they were just blended so well, I couldn’t make out anything specific. I thought it was perfect! The overall blend was so smooth and refreshing… I found myself taking deep breaths of this aroma every time I walked in the room. I absolutely loved it!! To me, this fragrance almost had an aromatherapy quality to it… it was beautiful and lovely, sweet and fresh all at the same time… it was soft with a whisper of elegance that I found enchanting. This scent was definitely the hit of my summer!

The tealights I tried gave a light scent throw which is totally normal for tealights… the melts however were nice and strong. I highly recommend this scent to everyone all year round.

Blackberry Gelato

I’m not sure what it was about this scent but I didn’t care for it… at all… and I normally like blackberry scents. I feel really bad but, it is what it is. This was totally a personal preference… I know this fragrance has received a lot of great reviews with Candlefind members on our forum… and just goes to show you… every nose is different. Here’s the scent description from Soy Lovely’s site:

“Fresh Orange, Merlot Grape and Loganberries infused with a creamy Strawberry Shake and toppedBlackberry Gelato, Soy Lovely candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle lovers off with a dollop of vanilla whipped cream and a sprig of Spearmint Leaves.”

The scent description sounds interesting and complex… and part of the problem for me was… I stupidly assumed from the name, “Blackberry Gelato”, that this scent would be a tart blackberry sorbet type fragrance or something. This scent was definitely “or something” because it smelled very “green” (like a plant) to me and I think that’s why I didn’t like it. No fruitiness at all and that’s what I was hoping for.

The strength of this fragrance gave a medium throw which was perfect in my case. I had a 12oz candle going in my bedroom and it fragranced the room nicely… not overpowering but you could definitely detect the scent when you walked into the room. The melts seemed the same. Not a knock your socks off scent but more subtle.

In closing, I think if you like green/earthy type scents, you may like Blackberry Gelato. It’s definitely unique and different.

Long Island Pastry

Three words… Mmm mmm good! This is a knock your socks off bakery scent and one you’ll want to pop in your mouth and nibble on with your morning coffee! Here’s the description from Soy Lovely’s website:

“A flaky pastry puff filled with caramel and brown sugar then sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar. A unique bakery scent with heavy caramel & pastry notes. This one is sure to tempt your sweet tooth!”

Talk about mouth watering!! Two years ago, you couldn’t have paid me to burn or melt bakery scents. They were actually so strong and heavy, the scent made me sick. Man have my tastes changed!! Now I can’t get enough of Soy Lovely Candle Review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversthem and the stronger, the better!

This was an extremely delicious scent to me and one I’ll be ordering by the pound most likely, I liked it THAT much! Laurel sent me a little 4oz candle and some melts… I immediately lit the candle and threw the melts in my nightstand drawer ( I kinda have so many, I have to shove em any place I can). Anyway, I forgot about the melts and when I sat at my bed working on my laptop, every so often, I’d get a whiff of this bakery/cake smell that was driving me nuts. I’d lift my head and sniff the air thinking, “where the heck is that yummy scent coming from?” …it smelled so good! Once I figured it out, I knew this would be a keeper and it is, a major one.

The description for Long Island Pastry is perfect and very accurate. It’s a bakery lovers dream! It’s rich and warm and you can totally smell the caramel and brown sugar with warm bakery bread undertones… it smells so real! Loved the candle and found this small little dude nice and strong. I burned it in my powder room due to the size and you could smell it in the hallway so great scent throw.

Two thumbs up on this scent and highly recommend it for bakery scented lovers!

Candle Flame, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversHow did Candles from Soy Lovely burn?

I had a little bit of a problem with the first candle I tried (Blackberry Gelato)… it had a very weird fuel undertone to it the entire time I had it burning… I emailed Laurel to tell her about it and she shipped out a replacement right away. Had zero problems with the second one. The only reason I mention this in my review is #1, it happened and I like to mention my entire experience when reviewing candles and #2, this company stands by their products and #3, flukes happen. Laurel then told me after she sent a replacement that she extensively tests all her scents and what happened to me was not normal. Very commendable!!My tealights and Long Island Pastry candle burned perfectly. No soot or smoke… very clean burns on all my candles.

Overall opinion of my candles and Soy Lovely:

I had a happy & wonderful experience with this company and will definitely be ordering from Soy Lovely in the future. Loved-loved-LOVED Avocado & Cilantro and will be orderingSoy Lovely Candles, Candlefind.com, the site for candle lovers that by the pound-load as well as Long Island Pastry. Who am I kidding… I’m looking forward to trying a variety of scents next time around.

Happy candle hunting!
