I absolutely love to travel. Almost as much as I love candles! Combine the two and I’m sold…hook, line, and sinker. That’s why I was super excited to learn about Fernweh Editions – travel inspired luxury soy candles that are designed to take you to far-away places, even in the midst of a pandemic. I had the opportunity to try a set of these candles, and I wanted to share with you some of my initial thoughts!
A Closer Look at Fernweh Editions
Fernweh Editions is a small candle company that was founded on the notion of destinations and places that evoke special memories and feelings. The wax is a creamy, dye-free soy blend and they only use 100% cotton core, self-trimming wicks. Each group of candles is centered around a destination, such as France, New England, or the Pacific Isles.
My chosen collection was Mediterranean Gardens, which they describe as: Wander through lavender fields, lush herb and citrus gardens, and an orchard of sun-ripened figs. The set included Summer Fig, Rosemary & Bergamot, and Lavender Fields.
They offer these candles in sets – either the classic set, which is three 11oz jar candles, or the smaller travel tin set for those candle lovers on the go. If you aren’t ready to commit to a full set yet, they do offer single size 11oz jar candles of each of their scents.
The beauty of these candles is undeniable. The set I received came in beautiful black gift boxes, ready for gift giving. The jars were a deep black glass with a clear base. The large white sticker label is easily removable, if that’s your thing. Overall, just a classy set of candles that feels luxurious from the moment it hits your hands!
We tested Summer Fig, Rosemary & Bergamot, and Lavender Fields from the Mediterranean Collection. We’re noting our initial thoughts below, and will be following up with full reviews for each individual item in the near future.
Summer Fig seemed like the perfect start to this wonderful collection. It conjured up the ideas of cool breezes, juicy figs, and an air of relaxation. According to the scent description: Taste the fruity sweetness of sun-ripened Italian figs entwined with notes of jasmine and sensual sandalwood. Mmmm – this was one beautiful scent! It was not too sweet, like some fig scents can be. This was more mellow and warm. I absolutely adored it!
I had a nice, slow burn from this candle. I loved the dark, black jars, as they glowed with the burn. The melt pool was even but shallow. The scent was modestly strong – it did well in a medium sized room to let me know the scent was there, but not too overpowering. I had absolutely no trouble with smokiness or sooting. A perfect burn from start to finish!
ROSEMARY & BERGAMOT
The bright and earthy Rosemary & Bergamot candle was a smart addition to this set. The scent reminded me of summer and brightness, which was perfect for the Mediterranean theme. The scent description reads: Bright, sweet citrusy bergamot contrasts with invigorating, herbal rosemary, and both are balanced with notes of lily, vanilla, musk, and blonde woods. This scent definitely had a cheeriness to it, with the sharp citrus notes coming in first, followed by the needle-like earthiness of rosemary. The woodsy notes helped this one linger in the air.
I loved the clean burn on this candle – a full wax melt pool with a beautiful, dancing flame. This fragrance was a bit more weighty in the room, but in a good way. I loved how it filled the room with fragrance without taking it over & being obnoxious, if you know what I mean. I think this one was my favorite fragrance of the bunch!
What’s a Mediterranean garden without some lavender? I have come to love lavender fragrances and this one was a true, authentic scent. This was more of a French lavender fragrance, complete with some piney, woodsy notes. It was soothing and relaxing – I could close my eyes and just drift away! The scent description reads: Enjoy tranquility, calm, and peace with the aroma of true lavender flowers. A beautiful and timeless scent that relaxes the mind and body. I was definitely taken away by this lovely scent of lavender.
I had another flawless burn from this candle. Even melt pool, no black soot noted. The scent was not too strong – just enough to provide that relaxing, beautiful scent of lavender in the air. The throw was enough to gently fragrance the room it was in without being overbearing.
Overall Impression of Fernweh Editions
I absolutely adored the candles I tried from Fernweh! They are elegant, beautiful, and authentic. The burns were absolutely flawless. These are candles that are meant to be alone or in a group, as the scents themselves seemed to fill the air without being overpowering or obnoxious.
These candles can be purchased on their website. I can’t wait to explore their other collections, as I was more than impressed with Mediterranean Gardens!
