Introduction to my Salt City candle review…

I have always wanted to try Salt City Candles and here was finally my chance. I found an online store that carried this brand at very reasonable prices. SCORE!!!!

Salt City candles sure look beautiful with their hourglass shape and classic labeling. Very simple and elegant. According to everything I’ve read.. they’re a big competitive brand. How can they not be great? I was about to find out.

I stuck to classic scents I knew I would like. Lots of fruity scents perfect for summer.

The candles are very attractive. They’re very simple apothecary jars that almost have an hourglass shape to them. There is a black label that encircles the bottom of the jar that says Salt City Candles. All the candles had one wick. Lemon Tree was yellow, Orange Passion was a light orange and Melon Cream was green.

How did my Salt City candles smell?

Orange Passion:

I’m going to start off with the scents description for this scent on Salt City’s Website:

“A grove of oranges beckons, its healthy trees loaded with tangy, bright colored fruit. Enjoy a sun-kissed blend of energizing orange juice & sweetsalt city candles, salt city candle, candles salt city, candle salt city, salt city scented candles, salt city candle scents, salt city fragranced candles, salt city candle fragrances, buy salt city candles, salt city candle store, salt city candle company cream”.

That description sold me, but I was expecting something totally different than the fragrance I actually smelled from this candle. I think I was expecting a more tangy orange scent rather than a classic orange vanilla fragrance. This candle didn’t quite smell like a classic orange vanilla though. I want to say it smelled more like a Life Savers orange/cream piece of candy. It had a candy quality to it and the cream part I smelled was very sweet and sugary.

The scent throw on this candle is in between light to medium. I burned two candles in my great room and although I could smell the fragrance pretty clear, it wasn’t strong. The fragrance was very subtle. I did like it but I don’t know if I liked it enough to actually purchase it again. That’s me!  On the other hand, if you like sweet creamy orange scents, you may like Salt City’s version and may want to give it a try.

Melon & Cream:

Now, I liked this candle, a lot! I think because I love melon fragrances so much. I can’t find this scent on Salt City’s website so I’m not sure if theysalt city candles, salt city candle, candles salt city, candle salt city, salt city scented candles, salt city candle scents, salt city fragranced candles, salt city candle fragrances, buy salt city candles, salt city candle store, salt city candle company discontinued it or if it’s just on hiatus for awhile. But, if you love melon scents and you find this candle anywhere, buy it. It smells really good.

When I smelled this candle for the first time, it actually smelled so faint that I thought it would be a dud. Then I decided to light it and oh my goodness, my house was filled with a melon-ee sweetness that had me breathing in the scent all day long. As with Orange Passion, the scent throw wasn’t super strong but it was strong enough to tease my nose all day. It smelled like watermelon with a little bit of cream. It was different enough to catch my notice and it also caught my husbands’ attention as well.  I found him on several occasions sniffing the air and telling me he liked this candle. Take that as a compliment Salt City. You got the stamp of approval from my picky “pine expert”.

Lemon Tree:

I love lemon!  It’s my favorite scent ever so by default, my nose was drawn to this candle automatically. Let’s start off with the scent description on Salt City’s website for this candle:salt city candles, salt city candle, candles salt city, candle salt city, salt city scented candles, salt city candle scents, salt city fragranced candles, salt city candle fragrances, buy salt city candles, salt city candle store, salt city candle company

“A grove of lemon trees dazzles the eye-first with delicate citrus-scented blossoms and then later with a bumper crop of tart tangy lemons. With proven healing, cleansing and energizing properties, the lemon is a versatile natural wonder.”

Now that’s a pretty good description! When I first smelled this candle, I was a little disappointed… the scent was very light and usually lemon candles are strong from the get-go. I bought two candles in this fragrance and lit both in my great-room. It took well over an hour before I began to notice the scent.

This was a really unusual lemon scent to me. It didn’t smell like candy or pie and it wasn’t tart or tangy.  If I had to label it something, I would say it resembled Lemon Chiffon scents I’ve tried in the past.

For a picky lemon lover… I probably won’t be purchasing this scent again. It was okay but I’ve definitely had better lemon scents than this one. Sorry.

candle flameHow did my Salt City candles burn?

All my candles were poured weird. If you were looking down into the candle, it looked like when the wax was poured, it spilled up the sides of the glass higher than the wick creating a valley around the wick.  So, the candles never stood a chance to burn right from the start because the wax around the lip of the jar couldn’t melt. I had to use my wick dipper on every one of them to push the wax from the sides into the wax pool so all the wax got used up. It’s not that big of a deal but I still wanted to point that out. Once I cleared that up, my candles seemed to burn okay.

Overall opinion of my candles from Salt City:

I’m torn. I did enjoy all three candles I purchased but not sure enough to order again with the exception of  Melon Cream. That scent was awesome, creamy and delicious! Maybe I’ll give them a try down the road. Never say never. 🙂

Happy candle burning!

  1. I’ve been using these candles for about 10 yrs now. I have to use non-food scents or I want to eat so I like lilac or pine, etc. I don’t have the problem of the wax on the walls of the glass. I have one going now and as the wax melts, the glass is totally clear. I keep the wick very, very, very short-cut it before lighting every time therefore I don’t get black soot on the glass and wax is evenly burning.
I’ve also used an electric candle warmer, no problem with that either.
But without a doubt, I love the scents. I like strong scent so when I walk past I bring the scent throughout my place. In addition, this is good, quality wax. The color and scent is the same throughout the whole candle-it’s not white like some.
