Wal-Mart

Let's review the candles for sale at Walmart!
www.walmart.com

I really like the Mainstays, 11 oz. 3 wick candles at Walmart. The Mulled Cider and the Hazelnut Creme is REALLY strong. Plus they burn nice with the 3 wicks. Definately worth the $2.97 that you pay for them. I am going to wait to see what kinds of Christmas scents they have.

I've tried pretty much every candle at Walmart. Prices are so reasonable. Quality sometimes isn't the greatest. I am loving Better Homes and Garden products. Everything from them is worth buying.

We've gotten a good amount of walmart candles in the past and had more duds than not, some didn't have any scent throw to speak of. But my husband wanted to try a gel candle we saw there. He really liked the Clover Honey scent so we got that one. I was surprised that it does have a decent scent throw, and burns fairly good. The container itself is nice too. Definately a pleasant surprise.

The Mainstay Hazelnut Cream is very highly scented in the medium size jar. It's a deal at $2.97!

Well, I have to admit I bought a couple of their candles in the mason jars. They actually smelled really good in the jar. I burned two, the lemon pound cake and key lime pie. The Key lime actually had a decent throw, but tunneled when I burned it. The lemon smelled just like pledge! Yuck!!! I can't say I would recommend these candles, either, as other reviewers have mentioned, but I can say that the key lime smelled really good. Just burned terrible. I would go elsewhere, I reckon!

I agree with the 3 wick mainstay candle reviews, i have bought several candles over the years at wal-mart and now these are the only ones i will buy from there. I bought cinnamon toast, maderin cranberry, hazelnut, warm apple pie and pumkin spice in the 11 oz , 3 wick. and so far the pumpkin spice has been excellent it really surprised me by the scent throw i got from this candle with no hang up on the sides same for the manderine cranberry, loved this scent. I will let you know how the others do as i burn them.

I've loved candles for a long time, but am only just becoming aware that there is such a variance in quality when it comes to candles. I used to pick up candles from Wal-Mart almost every time I shopped and most of my candles came from there. After recieving a couple of higher quality candles, I no longer buy nearly as many from Wal-Mart. But, that is not to say that all of their candle products are terrible. Right now, I'm burning a Hot Apple Pie candle that I've had for awhile and it puts out a medium, pleasant throw, though I wouldn't say it smells just like apple pie. I'm more than half way through it and I'm surprised how clean this one has burned. The sides of the glass are clean and this particular one is burning quite nicely. Another one that I like is called Tree Lighting, smells piney and really has a surprisingly strong throw. Another one I've had good luck with was called Hazelnut Cream and it was a three wick candle and really smelled very nice. Mulled Cider is decent as well. There are some that come in a "masonesque" jar with a tin lid that seem to put out a decent scent as well. I just picked up a few small candles in little decorative Christmas jars in a cranberry that smell surprisingly strong. The holiday themed candles seem to be the best to me. It's hit and miss on how cleanly Wal-Mart candles burn, it seems, and tunneling is occasionally an issue as well. But for a convenient, inexpensive candle, Wal-Mart is not all bad.

I've been reading some of the reviews and agree that the majority of the "good" Walmart scents will be the fragrances with an element of spice in them. Spicy aromas like cinnamon and clove must be inexpensive or just really strong b/c even the el cheapo candles that have these elements to them seem to have a good throw. It's a shame it's limited to these aromas though b/c Walmart brands, while not strong, have come out with some fascinating and pleasant scents. Not too long ago they had some beautiful fragrances out with an oriental theme and had enticing combinations with jasmine, honey, mandarin orange, water lily, and other beautiful scents. All smelled lovely cold but were absolute duds when lit. Such a pity. ***UPDATE*** Being curious, I tried another one of their three-wick jar candles, this time in a floral scent. I believe it was called floral bouquet. The few successful candle scents I've tried from Walmart have all been these low, three-wick candles whose price (2.96) encourages test burns. This scent also had a pretty decent throw, unfortunately I found myself allergic to one of the oils they use. After an afternoon of relentless sneezing, I had to throw the candle away. Here are the three wicks I've tried so far: Hazlenut Creme: very, very sweet. Too cloyingly sweet for my taste, but a favorite among this board. Mulled Cider: my personal favorite. Not just all spice either. You can actually smell the apple in this one. A seasonal candle though, as my Walmart no longer carries this scent. Floral Boquet: light, powdery floral scent. Strong in wisteria-like aroma. Artificial but not unpleasant. May not be suitable for those who suffer from allergies though.

I'm really surprised there are no reviews posted here for Wal-Mart candles, as they must sell millions of them each year. I was enticed into trying a few because they looked nice, smelled nice in the store, and were very aggressively priced. While it is very hard to find a low priced candle that performs well, I thought that if anyone could pull this off, that Wal-Mart could. We all know that the materials cost in a typical candle is not that high, and with Wal-Mart making millions of them with low overhead, perhaps they could sell a good candle at 25 cents on the dollar. I brought home a pillar and votive of Mulled Cider, a small jar of Pumpkin Pie, and a Blueberry. Sadly, once again the lower cost, mass produced candle turns out to be a bust. While the scents were nice when cold, they had very little throw. The Mulled Cider and Pumpkin Pie candles were a lighter color on the inside, as if they had been coated with a darker, stronger scent but the bulk of the candle had only a touch of scent. My samples were out of two different lines of candles, they had others. So perhaps they have a higher end line which perform better. But from what I tried, these candles are good for decorative purposes only. A visitor might like the scent if they pick it up and smell it. But you'll get nowhere in terms of filling a room with a nice scent.

I am in agreement with the others on these candles. I tried a couple (vanilla and apple pie) and they were absolutely weak. Sorry, I would have to say, I will not be buying these again. You get what you pay for, is all I can say ;) I have also found other candles to burn evenly, have an excellent scent throw and are more expensive, but worth the price.

These candles are really only good for emergencies, like major weather events! They really don't do much for scent or for light, as they tend to drown in their own wax and produce soot. I haven't had to purchase these since the hurricanes we experienced two years ago and hope I don't need them this year, either!

I was surprised to see Walmart carry soy candles. I purchased an 11oz. 3-layer scented soy candle...Oatmeal Raisin, Brown Sugar, Cinnamon Hazelnut. It smelled great cold. Attached to the candle was a small note card that read, "Homemade Creations Recipe Card" with a recipe for Oatmeal Raisin Cookies. I am not crazy about this candle at all. The scent throw is pretty weak, even sitting right next to it I could barely smell it. It only burned in the center and I had to trim the wick often. I won't buy this candle again...
