Target

Target stores have a beautiful selection of candles, but what do you think of the scents, burn quality, etc.? Let us know your experiences.

My secret santa at work got me a jar candle in Apple Cinnamon last week from Target and I've been steadily burning it ever since. I have to say, it smells pretty good and it is easily scenting my large living room/foyer. It's not an "in your face" fragrace either which is nice. I hated to start burning it because it had a cute cork lid with painted pinetrees on it and some decorative touches such as sprigs of holly around the mouth. But that stuff had to go- I cannot not burn a candle! They are not for decorative purposes in my house. Hopefully it will start to burn a little more evenly but overall, I'm pretty pleased. I've never bought candles from Target, so I had no idea how they might be. There was no lead in the wick and it produced no black sooty output. Not bad.

I recieved a French Vanilla Target 22 oz jar with somewhere awhile ago. I have been burning it for several days now -- and to be honest, it has more scent then I was expecting it to, according to previous posts here. It is requiring some effort to get it to burn cleanly since there is only one center wick. At the end of the day, I presuade the soft wax on the edge of the jar back down. It is burning cleanly and I haven't had to wipe any soot off the inside or edges. It does smell like a strong vanilla and seems to be getting stronger the further I burn it down -- it will fill up a small room with it's scent -- and it is burning about 1/2" wax a day -- I think it is burning so slowly because of the singular wick -- I have been burning it almost constantly for 2 weeks. So overall -- it is and acceptible wax candle, although I would not run out to purchase one --there are to many much better candles! Julianne

Let me begin by saying I have been buying candles from Target for years, and have generally been happy with them. However, last week I picked up a three-candle set of the new jar candles out this year. They came in darling little jars with wooden lids, and each candle is 3-4 oz. The set I got included Calla Lily, Lemon Leaf and Fresh Air. Boy was I disappointed this time! The candles smelled wonderful out of the jar, but that was about as far as the scent went! I tried all three fragrances, and none of them would even scent my tiny bathroom (6' x 8')! About the only way I could smell them was to hold the jar about a foot under my nose while it was burning! I have bought Target jar candles in the past and have loved them, especially once called Oatmeal Cookie they had out for the holidays several years ago. Another favorite scent is Red Currant. I have bought votives and column candles in this scent, they have all been wonderful! I don't know what happened this time around, but the scent just didn't make it, and I let them burn for several hours at a time! What a shame, because the new jar candles at Target are really neat! They have gone out of their way to select great containers...too bad the candles are as great! My three little jar candles will be religated to the "emergency candle" cabinet...too bad...

I've tried a couple of the triple scented candles from Target with the silver lid and have to say, I've been disappointed both times. They sure look nice and contemporary and they smelled very nice cold. I tried one with an Asian theme, though I can't recall the name of it and it had a very low scent throw and burned badly with soot and tunneling galore. I finally had to throw it away by the time it reached it's third scent layer as the wick kept drowning in the wax. I thought maybe I burned it wrong or didn't do enough maintenence on it, so I tried a fall scent that caught my eye last month. It has three scents, Spiced Pear, Spiced Treats and something else. Any way, more soot on this one, though it didn't tunnel nearly as badly. The scent throw was medium, but I have to say, it smelled odd. Not the fall scent I had hoped for. It smelled much better cold. I was pretty disappointed and for the price, I'd recommend Wal-Mart's over these. I don't think I'll be buying candles from Target anymore.

I have tried a few of the jars from Target, and when you open the jar at the store, they smell wonderful, but you burn them and smell nothing. They always have some really cute candle jars at Target, it is ashame they have no scent when you burn them. I won't try another one!

I buy Target's tealights because they burn cleaner than the value bag from Walmart, but I learned the expensive way that the scented candles are little more than glorified emergency lighting. I can't even list cheap as a pro on this one because they're about two to three dollars more expensive than the Walmart brands and are little to no improvement on them.

I purchased the large Vanilla Bean scented jar candle from Target. I love the look of the amber colored jar and the dark stained wood lid. On cold sniff it smelled very good and for under ten dollars I thought it was a good deal. The problem is this candle has zero scent throw. Regardless of how long it burned, it simply wouldn't scent more than a few inch diameter around itself! I've tried many Target candles in the past and think I finally learned my lesson - if you want scented candles, don't buy them from Target. If you simply like the look of candlelight and aren't in the mood for scent, then their candles are certainly reasonable in price. I want a candle I can really smell though, and these just don't deliver.
