Reviews From the Archives: Rendezvous Soy Candles

Note from Andrea: Our old Candlefind Review Board was our original candle company directory, with tons of listings and consumer reviews. We are now moving all reviews over from the Archives to our current directory. Some companies, however, may no longer be making candles and wax melts. We didn’t want to lose those reviews, as you still may find the products on secondary markets such as eBay or Mercari, or in destash groups. Here you’ll find the prior reviews for the company Rendezvous Soy Candles.

I actually purchased my candles from Romanzagifts.com because the itssoy website didn’t carry all the products that they make! I emailed the company to ask why, but never received a response. The candles are $18.75 on the itssoy website and $19.95 on the Romanza website, but I ordered enough candles on the Romanza website to receive free shipping. And again, you can’t purchase every candle scent on the itssoy website, so I had to order from Romanza to get a particular scent I wanted. The only size candle this company offers is 7oz. or 8oz. It is the same size, but depending on where you look it will vary by an oz. The warning labels on the bottom of the candles say 7oz. I tried 3 scents: Hotel Bali: Chinese rhubarb, tangelos, cocoa. Made with essential oils. Pampered Pup: berry currant and lime Fortune: sugar, market fresh vanilla, and honey. Made with essential oils. The best thing I can say about these candles is the way they look. They come in a cute box that looks like a Chinese takeout box with little carry handles on top, except the box is black and pink. The containers are a straight up and down glass, kind of like a little cup. There are square labels on each glass and vary by scent. Hotel Bali had a pink design mixed with black, brown, light pink, and lime colored lines. Pampered Pup had a cute little white dog on the label, and Fortune had a picture of a fortune cookie. Each label had the name of the company, the scent of the candle, a little saying, and a description of the scent. I won’t go into that much detail because you can view a closer view of the labels on the itssoy website. I was not impressed with the scent of these candles, and these are scents that are similar to fragrances I’ve tried before. The scent strength and throw was from low-medium, the wicks break off right at the base if you try to trim them (they are very fragile and brittle), and you might as well not even trim the wicks, or the wax won’t melt off the sides of the jar. I burned the Pampered Pup candle without trimming the wick at all and it was the same size (no mushrooming) through the entire burn of the candle. The wicks don’t soot and the candles burn “clean” (left a film on the sides of the jar) if you let the candles burn for a really long time and the heat melts the leftover wax that stays on the side of the jars. Although the box they come in is adorable, I would never spend this much money on these candles again. I will also never give them as gifts because I feel the actual candles are low quality. I thought the scents I tried sounded interesting, especially Hotel Bali, but I’m not sure I smelled strawberry rhubarb or cocoa. I’ve smelled much better vanilla fragrances than the Fortune candle I tried, and there wasn’t anything that would make me buy Pampered Pup’s berry currant and lime ever again. None of these fragrances were that strong or had a good throw, and I burned them in my small bathroom. My advice would be to save your money and buy soy candles elsewhere. But that’s just my opinion…Happy Candle Hunting from Jen the Candle Hunter:-)
