Intro To My Candle Review

This is my second candle review for Alma Luxury Candles, a new-to-me company that I’ve been impressed with from jumpstreet. The owner creates candles around destinations and takes great care to make the scent experience authentic. That’s why I was excited to try Reflections of Bali, as Bali is another bucket-list place for me. Since I won’t be heading there anytime soon, this candle was my chance to go there in my mind. I was certainly up for it!

First Impressions of My Candle

My first candle from Alma’s had a great scent but was on the milder side. This candle greeted me with more of an ‘in-your-face’ kind of scent strength. I could smell citrusy notes and a sweet, spicy smell. Those are pretty strong notes, so that must be why I noticed them so much on cold sniff. As for the scent description…

Lemongrass, lily of the valley, aromatic ginger. Subtle and balance scent.

From Alma Candles’ Website

Now it all made sense! That burst of citrus I smelled was from the lemongrass and the sweet, spicy had to be the ginger. Nice combo! I didn’t get any floral notes on cold sniff, but I was excited to light it up to see what would happen.

I decided to use this candle in a guest bedroom, given its size. After it burned about 40 minutes, it really started surrounding me with scent. The citrus is what I noticed the most and it was clean, crisp, and energizing. This was not a sweet citrus scent – a little more earthy and, well…grassy. I love the scent of lemongrass just for that energizing feel it can give, and that was definitely the predominant scent here.

As the candle continued to burn, I noticed that the ginger had decided to take a back seat. It was still there as a warm, subtle spiciness. What did come out more with the burn was the floral – nice and soft, and a little sweet. This made for a beautiful mix that scented the bedroom nicely. It was definitely stronger than my Moroccan Oasis candle – it filled the room and I could tell it was burning just before walking into the room. Nice!

How Did My Candle Burn?

I left this candle burning over 4 hours on the first burn and got an almost-full wax melt pool. There was a little rim of wax on the sides. I did speak with the owner, Jessica, about this and she explained that there was a mix of her usual coconut waxes due to unforeseen circumstances. She thinks this is what caused the wax rim issue and assured me that she was not letting that happen again.

Still, the candle burned cleanly with no black sooting. This candle also had a long, slow burn, which I always appreciate. The website says this 9oz candle burns for 45 hours. I definitely got that and more.

Closing To My Candle Review

This was a great, energizing scent and a very clean-burning candle. I loved it! It was stronger than Moroccan Oasis with a greater throw. If you like fresh, energizing, and clean, citrusy scents, I think this one is a good one to try. Overall, I found these to be high quality candles that perform well and provide beautiful, complex scents that do transport you mentally to other destinations. Of the two, Reflections of Bali was my favorite. I’m actually scoping out the website for others in the collection, so I can be taken away to other places all over the world!
