Introduction to my review:

Have you checked out all the new summer scents at Bath & Body Works yet?  If you love floral scents… they have a huge selection  to choose from. I’m not a floral fan but if I were, I would be in heaven. I’m a fruity girl and thankfully, Bath & Body Works added some interesting ones this year.

Red Guava Lava is next up for review… it caught my attention the moment I saw it… what a catchy and cute name! Once I read the scent description, I was sold. Passion Fruit and Guava? Oh yeah! I was in.

What did my Red Guava Lava candle look like?

This candle was their classic large 3 wick candle. The label shows a picture of a Hawaiian flower with dew drops all over it with the scent name to the right of the label. The lid was cool… it was a shiny chrome and had embossed flowers all over it. See picture to the left.

What did my candle smell like?

First impression… I *really* liked it. This was a bold and sweet fruity scent with the perfect touch of tartness. It reminded me a lot of pink lemonade. Here is the scent description from Bath & Body Works’ website:

“Hawaii’s spectacular lava landscape is celebrated in an explosively fresh and fruity blend of red guava and passion fruit.”

This candle is really pretty… the wax is a deep red and it’s so pretty burning. I lit this candle in a large bedroom early morning and waited for the magic to begin. I’d say it took roughly 30 full minutes to really start smelling the fragrance and Mmmmmmm!! So fruity and good! I’ve smelled guava before and it’s not really a bold fruity scent to me so my guess is… this candle was all passion fruit. It was so refreshing. I’ve been burning this fragrance non stop for 2 days now and I’m still holding firm when I first smelled it… the fragrance reminds me of a tangy pink lemonade. It was a bright and summery fragrance.

The scent throw with this candle wasn’t super strong but it gave a nice medium throw. On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d maybe give it a 7.

How did my Red Guava Lava candle burn?

If you’re a die hard BBW candle lover, you know they changed their wicks and are touting perfect burns this year. I personally think it’s still hit or miss… at least for me anyway. This candle started out perfect, nice even flames… fast melt pool but halfway down the candle… the wicks drowned out. Totally disappointed with the burn performance with this candle. I bought two of this scent so we’ll see how the other one performs.

Closing to my review:

I really liked this scent but I was really disappointed how this candle burned. Bath & Body Works changed their wicks this year and are claiming perfect burns so I’m hoping my experience here was an isolated event. I love their candles – love them – so I plan on trying more in different scents and will see how it goes.

One great aspect of wax… I can scoop out what didn’t burn and use it up in my melters so nothing goes to waste. Just pop the candle in the freezer… take it out after a full day, break up the wax with a butter knife and voilà… instant melts.

In closing… if you are a fruity scent lover… I think you’ll enjoy Red Guava Lava. It’s yummy and summery fresh!
