First impression of Passion Fruit Martini:

I have this love/hate relationship with Yankee Candles. They are on the pricier side for mass market candles, yet the scent choices and bright colors always suck me in. Always. Yankee Candle recently had a sale on their baby jar candles, so I took the opportunity to try out quite a few new-to-me scents. First up – Passion Fruit Martini!

What a cute little candle this was! I usually only buy the large candles from Yankee, so this little bundle of joy was a pleasant surprise. Yankee Candle takes as much care with their smallest jar candle as they do with the great big ones. The jar was the namesake apothecary style with an easily removable label on the front. The label showed a picture of a fruity martini close up – so refreshing, I wanted to take a sip! The wax was a deep orange color – perfect for the scent.

What did my Passion Fruit Martini candle smell like?

Once I removed the lid and took a whiff, I immediately thought – mangoes! I could smell a hint of muskiness, but mostly this was sweet. The scent description for this particular candle is:

Sit back, relax and savor a tropical mix of passion fruit, mango, and zesty orange. It’s like a long sip of a true beachside cocktail.

Fragrance Notes:
Top: Juicy Pineapple, Tropical Mango, Zesty Orange
Mid: Passion Fruit
Base: Musk

Having a better idea of the scent notes, I lit this candle in a small bathroom to see what it would do. When I re-entered, I could definitely smell the fruitiness of the mangoes again. The musk notes took a backseat and it was all about the fruit. Primarily the mango and orange, but I could also pick out the juicy passion fruit. I couldn’t get the pineapple on its own, but it had to contribute to this sweet concoction. This scent was zesty, fresh, and sweet – not sticky sweet in a candy way, but more tropically sweet. I liked the scent but in larger doses I would probably want some vanilla to smooth it out.

Strength-wise, it was moderately strong. I’d easily rate it a 6 out of 10. This was a small candle, so I’m sure the larger candle would have a better scent throw, but this little one did manage to fill my bathroom with happiness.

How did my candle burn?

The candle itself burned without issues for the most part. I did have a little black soot coming from the wick, but it just took a lot of trimming to keep it under control. One thing I don’t particularly care for with these small candles is the super thin wick. It’s so easy for the wick to start drifting to one side or the other. I just keep using my wick tool to keep it centered, so nothing major but it was a minor annoyance. I was able to get a full wax melt pool in a very short timeframe. This candle burned all the way to the end with no residual wax on the sides.

Closing to my review:

Overall, I really enjoyed this candle. It’s like summer in a jar! If you like really sweet scents (fruity sweet), then this one would fit the bill. The scent is true and enjoyable and able to saturate the room. Just pass the little umbrella!

Happy Candle burning!
