Introduction to my WoodWick candle review…
This is my very first WoodWick experience and I loved it!!!! What super cool candles!!
I’ve enjoyed Virginia Candles for years and can always find a candle or two to tempt me anytime I’m browsing their website. This candle line can be found in many different stores across the country which makes it nice to smell their various scents before you purchase their candles. I’m not fortunate enough to have any stores around me but thankfully, I can shop to my hearts content on their website.
My favorite Virginia candles are their triple fragrance collection… I love getting 3 different fragrances in one candle. I’ve also found that these candles are pretty strong and last a long time so I really do think I get my moneys worth. Out of curiosity, I decided to try their new WoodWick candles which are now becoming a new favorite of mine and boy are these candles fun to burn! .
My first scent up for review? Sangria – a fruity berry concoction that always seems to be a winner to my nose.
What does my WoodWick candle look like?
This a unique style candle to me. It’s not a typical shape at all. The candle is long and skinny and kind of shaped like a vase. It’s wide on top, tapered in the center and then widens at the bottom. The lid is made of wood and lightly sits on the candle so it’s not a snug fit (meaning don’t pick up the candle by the lid or you’re in trouble). The wax color of my Sangria candle is a pretty red and the wick itself is made of a thin piece wood. The stylish look of this candle along with the incredible sound effects is truly spectacular.
How did my Sangria WoodWick candle smell?
As soon as I received this candle, I couldn’t wait to light it! The whole look of this candle is cool and the wood wick idea was too intriguing. My candle also smelled wonderful. When I first tried to imagine what sangria smelled like, I really couldn’t because I always assumed sangria was a type of alcohol. The scent description describes it as an alcohol drink as well 
so I was a little curious what this candle was going to smell like. The scent description for this fragrance is:
“This sparkling fragrance is a wonderful blend of red wine with slices of ripe peach and juicy orange.”
In my opinion, I couldn’t smell any type of alcohol, to me; it smelled like a tart berry fruit of some kind. I really couldn’t make out peach either. Maybe slight orange but I’m still sticking to what my nose thought, berry. I really liked it. I lit my candle in my bedroom and right away after lighting it, I could hear the crackling sound of the wick, I LOVED it!! It sounded just like a crackling fire (on a much smaller scale of course) but still, how cool!! You can only hear the candle when you’re in the room and what you do hear is so neat, I kept staring at it and listening to the crackling sound. The scent throw was pretty incredible too. I could smell the fragrance loud and clear through my bedroom, open bathroom and the scent was even filtering into my great-room.
I couldn’t wait for my hubby to get home to see what he thought. I didn’t tell him either but let him figure it out on his own. It was funny, he kept hearing a strange sound not knowing what it was and when he did figure it out, he thought it was the coolest thing too. He still catches himself every time I have it burning because the sound it so unusual to hear. WoodWick candles definitely got two thumbs up from him. Me too!
How did my WoodWick candle burn?
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to give this candle a 6. It was a definite struggle getting the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the glass the first few days I had it burning. I often found myself using my wick dipper to push wax off the walls of the glass into the melted pool so nothing got wasted. That’s a bit time consuming but I’m anal about leftover wax so it’s worth it to me. Once the candle reached the half way point, it burned much better and cleaner. One thing I did like about the wood wick is when I blew it out, it smoked a little but didn’t stink at all.
Closing to my review:
I LOVED my WoodWick candle and will for sure be ordering more. If you like tart berry scents, you would like Sangria, it’s a wonderful fruity fragrance and the throw was pretty strong and true. There isn’t a huge selection of fragrances available but it’s decent and I imagine should grow over time. The better deal is to buy the larger 22oz size which is what I did. They last a long time so I did get my money’s worth. The smaller 11.5oz size probably burns cleaner but that wasn’t a huge issue with me.
The sound effects are very cool and that alone makes it worthy of a try, even if just once for the novelty of it. This would be a great candle to burn if you have company over and want something out of the ordinary. This candle line definitely is.
