Maple Butterscotch Colonial Candle Review
By Christina Rylan
Brand: Colonial Candle
Type: 22oz large oval candle
Fragrance: Maple Butterscotch
Scent Strength: Medium
First impression of Maple Butterscotch:
Maple Butterscotch sounded like the perfect bakery scent. The picture on the label kind of sold me… it showed a pile of sweet butter brickle all golden and delicious. That’s what I imagined this scent to smell like, a sugary toffee with peanuts. You know the kind I’m talking about… melted butter boiled with brown sugar till it becomes warm toffee. YUM!!
Here is the scent description for Maple Butterscotch:
A delightfully scrumptious blend of soft maple, caramelized brandy, and smooth English toffee.
First impression when smelling the wax… my nose detected an almost spicy quality to the fragrance. It didn’t really smell like a sweet toffee aroma. It smelled kind of harsh. I don’t know how else to describe it. It wasn’t what I was hoping for or expecting but will wait to decide till I light the wicks and see how it performs then.
Before I get this review going… have you ever burned a Colonial candle? If you haven’t and are thinking about it… words of advice. Never, and I mean never trim the wicks before lighting them. I know they look long but they taper down on their own as soon as you light them up. If you trim them prior to lighting, you’ll have issues from then on out and your candle will not burn correctly. I learned that the hard way and it’s proven true with each and every candle I’ve burned since then.
Okay, now it’s time to light my candle!
I lit this candle in my master bedroom to start out and that’s where it stayed till the very end. Once the wicks were lit, it took a good hour to reach a full melt pool and the fragrance… I smelled a very bakery, warm almost kind of bread/cake aroma. It wasn’t a sugary toffee like I imagined, but it still smelled really good. The harshness I detected in the beginning did go away leaving behind a very yummy and warm bakery cake scent. Did I smell anything listed in the scent description? Not really. This scent pretty much morphed into a nutty sort of bread/cake aroma. ?
Strength – I would rate this candle a 7 out of 10 in a really large room. 10 in medium to smaller rooms.
How did my candle burn?
My candle burned perfect. No wick issues. Clean burning from beginning to end.
Closing to my review:
Well, I went into this review expecting toffee and came out in the end with cake. I guess it could be worse right? As a bakery lover, this was a mighty fine and warm cake fragrance and I liked it. I just personally think they need to rename this candle to something else. It’s confusing. With that said… definitely smell this one if you love warm bakery scents. It truly did smell yummy.
Happy candle hunting!
