Most people assume that candles are an accessory best left to the bedroom or bathroom, and this is a great idea, but not a requirement. Candles can be a great way to create a new ambiance in any room, and can provide scent and a sense of warmth for any occasion. Use these simple steps to learn easy ways of making magic in a room with candles for any occasion.
Step 1. Add splashes of color for a magical effect.
In a cool room, or room painted and decorated modestly in neutral tones, adding special color splashes can create a whole new feeling in the room. Candles, or faux candles, offer a great way to change out the color splash on occasion, and can be the perfect way to harmonize other color splashes in the room. Because they come in so many unique colors or patterns, the whole feeling of the room can be modified in an interesting and functional way very simply.
A great way to do this is to add a bright shade of candle or faux candle to a neutral room. For instance, adding a red-patterned faux candle with a great cinnamon scent to a sand-colored dining room. You will have a splash of bright and cheerful color in a warm and inviting room, without spending a lot of money or time on the project.
Step 2. Use scent to make magic.
One of the first things that people notice about your home is its smells and scents. First impressions mean a lot to most people, so making sure that every room smells as great as it looks is
critical. Candles are often a great way to offer a pleasing scent to the home without being overpowering or overwhelming. To change the mood in the room in a unique way without losing anything in the looks aspect, simply choose faux candles that offer multiple scent options.
It is a common misconception that the scent you choose for a room has no value. Scent means everything, and can really add to or take away from the magic in the room. Choose a scent that makes sense for that type of room, based on how you feel when you smell it. For example, choosing a food-based scent for a kitchen is a great idea, and can be based on the time of year, what you plan to serve, or something that means something special to you, your family, or intended guests.
Step 3. Experiment to find what works for you.
Candles are a great way to experiment with styles, colors, patterns, and scents to find what works in a particular room. That room can feel almost like a magical place with the right scent and color for the occasion. For example, choosing a lavender or vanilla scent for relaxation in the bathtub, or adding warm baked apples in the kitchen. We are no longer limited in choices to something that smells like a flower, and there are literally hundreds of scent options available today.
