Mahogany Apple – Bath & Body Works

Mahogany Apple Bath & Body Works Candle ReviewMahogany Apple

By Christina Rylan

Brand: Bath & Body Works

Type: 14.5oz large 3 wick candle

Fragrance: Mahogany Apple

Scent Strength: Strong

First impression of Mahogany Apple:

I am a huge fan of Bath & Body Works mahogany blends. It’s such a classic and deliciously masculine fragrance. I’m not alone either, it’s so popular, they keep mixing it with a ton of different scents creating endless blends, and now apple is Bath & Body Works latest concoction. I couldn’t resist.

Here is the scent description from the bottom of the candle:

Red mahogany wood, golden delicious apple, pink peppercorn and fresh lavender.

Hmmm… smelling the wax, I picked up on mahogany more than anything else. I’m hoping all the other notes come to life once the candle is burning – but my guess is against mahogany, they won’t stand a chance.

Time to find out!

I lit this candle in my master bedroom and within 10 minutes, the fragrance was traveling all throughout my room. After a good hour, it dominated everything else I had going on the upper level of my home. The aroma… 100% mahogany. Also noting I never did smell apple, peppercorn or lavender which I pretty much expected. Everything blended with their mahogany tends to get drowned out… it’s just the nature of the beast.

For those of you that have never smelled Bath & Body Works signature mahogany and are scratching your head at what it smells like… it doesn’t smell like wood or anything rustic like you would imagine it to. Just imagine a fresh and slightly sweet masculine cologne. That’s what it smells like to me. If you love masculine scents, you will love it… it truly is fresh and delicious.

Strength – on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this candle a 10 in a large room so smaller rooms will be room saturation strong. This fragrance is definitely a room filler.

candle-flameHow did my candle burn?

This candle burned perfect. No wick issues. (YAY!!) Clean and even burn from beginning to end. A+

Closing to my review:

Mahogany Apple was another great rendition of their classic mahogany but keeping it real… it smelled exactly like all the others previous versions released. Literally. No variation, nothing different. I loved it but definitely would have liked to have smelled the promised apple in the mix. I think that would have smelled pretty amazing.Unsure candle girl 1

If this scent interests you and you don’t see it at a Bath & Body Works store or online, don’t fret… just look for another version that has “mahogany” in it and you’re good to go.

Happy candle hunting!

  1. I agree with the comments. Mahogany apple is my absolute favorite candle at bath and body, and my go to for parties, except Christmas. I like the original, but it pales in comparison I don’t smell the peppercorns, but the lavender base is there along with a mellow mature apple. Now everyone go buy it this year ! I am scared it will be discontinued as it gets overshadowed by all the sick sweet bland boring fall scents (sweet cinnamon pumpkin I am looking at you, barf, not you leaves you are my boo)

  2. While I agree with most of your post, I do feel that it is rather misleading. Mahogany Apple is one of my favorite scents and yes, like you said, the mahogany is the most prevalent scent, the apple is certainly there. In fact I find it almost as strong; not in the “appley” way one may expect, but as a rich apple crisp cradle for the mahogany. I am in agreement with the peppercorn as I don’t detect those notes, however, the light lavender is there as a perfect support. You don’t smell “lavender”; what you smell is the uplift the lavender gives the mahogany and apple.
My largest issue with this post is not the fact that these notes were undetected or overlooked, but by the recomendation that just buying ” another version with mahogany in it. This seems to be an incredible over generalization. Perhaps I have misunderstood the statement, but I truly hope that you recognize the glaring differences between “mahogany teakwood”, “mahogany balsam”, and “mahogany coconut”. (Just to name a few)

    • Hi Cat,

Thanks for your comments but I do stand by my review and assessment. I love BBW’s Mahogany scents but I just don’t smell anything else when I burn them and that goes for all of their Mahogany blends. Maybe I’ll give the Apple one a try again next time I find one. Would certainly love to smell all those notes. 🙂
