Intro To My Candle Review
Wooden wick candles add an additional layer of comfort and ambiance when it comes to candle burning. I don’t burn them that often (not sure why), but I was overjoyed to know there was a wooden wick in the London Calling candle from Evoke Candle Company. I am already head over heels for their luxury line of candles, so I couldn’t wait to find out how this wooden wick would perform.

First Impressions of My Candle
Each candle from Evoke is designed differently and in keeping with the particular “theme” of the candle scent. The London Calling candle had a very British feel to is, with the visions of the UK flag, a telephone booth, and a good ole’ Big Ben on the label. The box mimicked the candle design, which I learned was created by the chandler herself, Gina! How incredibly talented she is!
The wax on this one was a pretty red color, in keeping with the box and label. It all matched to perfection, and you could tell a lot of care and thought went into the creation of this candle. I can say that to be true of the entire line of Evoke Candles – it makes getting one of these candles a true treat!
Now this particular candle had the wooden wick – perfect for the smoky type of scent it was. I took a whiff of the candle unlit and immediately thought of a wood burning stove. The scent was warm and cozy – definitely smoky on cold sniff. I looked for the scent description on the site and found:

This particular candle had fragrance notes that were described as “Smoke, Firewood, and Musk.” I wasn’t getting the musk on cold sniff, but definitely the smoky, firewood vibe.
I burned this candle in my master bedroom, as I wanted to get the sound of the wick crackling, too, while I was working in this room. It was not long after I lit this candle that I started getting the smoky scent from this candle – it was incredibly realistic! Ohmygoodness…it smelled like I was sitting by the campfire! The smokiness was solid, but not overwhelming. It filled the room and I could even smell this candle on down the hallway if I kept the doors open.
The candle smelled smoky but never smelled like anything was ‘on fire.’ I think the reason was that as it burned, the musk notes started showing themselves and blended well with the smokiness of this candle. It kept the scent on an even keel and something that I enjoyed smelling for several hours on end.
How Did My Candle Perform?
This candle took a while to get a full wax melt pool, but I had no problems there. The wooden wick was not a problem to maintain (sometimes these types of wicks can be tricky). The crackling noise from this wick was on the softer side. Still, it was nice to watch it flicker and it warmed the fragrance up even more.
I had no wasted wax on the sides of my jar and I didn’t notice any black sooting. Just a nice, clean burning candle, as I’ve come to expect from Evoke.
Closing To My Candle Review
Oooh, I loved this candle. It was different from the types of scents that I usually burn, but it was definitely one I would use over and over again. While it would be especially nice for the winter/cooler months, I could see this one working all year ’round, when you’re looking for cozy and comfy in a candle.
