Julia Wooten scented candle reviews, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversIntroduction to my review of Little Mac’s Candles:

Little Mac’s Candles is a small company with a whole lot of heart. They are a family team based in Sierra Vista, Arizona who are following their passion for making candles and building a solid customer base for their growing business. All of their candles are hand poured to order which makes customization a breeze and ensures a fresh candle every time.

There are several styles of candles offered, from a variety of jars and pillars to fun looking gel candles. They also have a super colorful tea light sampler pack that would be a great way to test drive several different scents. Custom colors are available and Little Mac’s Candles is also set up to handle fund raisers.Little Mac's Candles Banner

Little Mac’s Candles team is friendly and eager to help out with any special orders. I was pleased with my experience throughout the whole ordering process. I always got a friendly response to my inquiries.

The website is straightforward and simple enough to navigate. The links are easy to follow, there is a scent list on the site complete with descriptions, and the contact information is clearly noted so my questions were easy to ask and quickly answered.

What do my candles from Little Mac’s Candles look like?

I let Little Mac’s Candles decide what jar style and color best suited each scent that I chose, so when my package arrived, I was pleasantly Balmoral Candle from Little Mac's candlessurprised by the wide variety of jar sizes and shapes.

The Honeydew Melon scented candle came in a cute little one ounce sprite sized jar, with pale green wax. The red wax Watermelon Slices scent was in a six ounce tureen style jar… one of my favorite jar styles. My Lemon Drop arrived in a three ounce oval hexagon jar. It was a cool jar style and the wax was a sunny yellow. And finally, my beautiful Hawaiian Escape jar had a light plum colored wax in a Balmoral style, viselike, glass jar that was a whopping 16 ounces.

Each candle had a Little Mac’s Candles label on the lids and a scent name sticker on the side. I liked the variety of jar styles and the brilliantly colored wax. Opening my package was a treat for my eyes and nose alike.

How did my candles from Little Mac’s Candles smell?

Honeydew Melon

Little Mac’s Candles offers very brief scent descriptions, but I was happy to see them listed on the site just the same. I always appreciate a scent list with descriptions. Honeydew Melon is simply “Fresh Cut Melon”.

This Honeydew Melon scented candle was well received around here. It appealed to the men in my life. I don’t know what it was about this particular fruity scent… it must mix well with Testosterone… butHoneydew melon scented candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle lovers whatever the reason, I got positive comments about Honeydew Melon, and the way my home smelled while this candle was burning. When the fellas compliment one of my melt or candle scents, I must take notice. These are the scents most likely to get a reorder. I do have a little stash of favorites that I alone enjoy, but for the most part I do try to scent the house with fragrance that the whole family likes whenever possible.

I found this scent to be a pretty standard honeydew melon. It was fresh and fruity, a little bit sweet, and exactly what I expected from this scent. It didn’t stand out as being vastly different from other honeydew melon scents I’ve smelled, but this small candle smelled authentic, was well made, and had a good strong throw for its size.

Watermelon Slices

This scent was briefly described by Little Mac’s Candles:

Watermelon Slices“This one smells just like the summer treat.”

I wanted to like this scent… I wanted to smell a late summer juicy watermelon bursting with ripeness. Unfortunately, this particular scent missed the mark for me. It had an odd chemical note to it that actually reminded me of a powdered cleanser. It wasn’t exactly unpleasant, but it didn’t smell authentic to my nose as any type of watermelon, either fresh or candied. I tried this candle several times over the course of a few weeks, hoping it would grow on me, but it never really held any more essence of watermelon for me.

I liked the tureen style jar candle, and the candle itself burned well… it was the scent alone that disagreed with me. This happens now and then, so keep in mind the differences in all of our scent perceptions.

Lemon Drop

This lemony scent is described as a: Lemon drop scented candle review

” Lemony bouquet enhanced by bergamot and musk”

It seemed like an intriguing twist of lemon, so I really looked forward to trying this scent.

I am glad that I chose this scent. I’ve been burning candles and melting tarts for a long time, but I am still taken by surprise now and then, when a seemingly common scent smells uncommon. I thought I had smelled all of the different lemons and their variations, but this one was just different enough to stand out… and boy, I sure liked this scent. I’ve smelled bakery lemons mixed with cakes and cookies… I’ve smelled lemon candy scents mixed with sugar or cream…and I’ve even smelled lemons that were blended with fresh laundry notes too. This lemon was unlike any of those. It had a very distinct sharpness to it that I liked. It wasn’t a tartness exactly, but more of a clean smelling undertone. It may have been an undertone similar to that in the Watermelon Slices, but in the Lemon Drop it worked for my nose.

Lemon drop scented candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversIt took only minutes after lighting this candle to smell the fragrance in the air. I could smell some tartness of the lemon and the musk came through clearly. It was a very interesting blend…not bakery at all. Probably reminiscent of a certain dusting cleaner, which I know some of you don’t care for, but I really enjoyed this scent and I could smell it whenever I was in the room. The throw was huge for the six ounce size. I was surprised at how strong this little oval hexagon jar was. It had no problem scenting my kitchen and main living space.

Hawaiian Escape

This scent is one of Little Mac’s best sellers, and also has one of the longer descriptions:

“A tropical outdoor blend with fruit notes of orange, pineapple, peach and strawberry combined with light floral nuances of jasmine and lavender.”

I can see why this is such a popular fragrance at Little Mac’s Candles. It packed a punch of tropical breezes that easily filled my medium sized bedroom. Tropical fragrances don’t have to be all about fruity coconutHawaiian Escape scented candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle lovers blends. This scent takes tropical in a whole different direction. I could smell some fruit like a juicy peach, but I also smelled jasmine and lavender quite clearly. It seems like these three scent notes would make strange bedfellows but this scent works very well together. I smelled more floral than what the scent description suggests but the fruit was just as potent.

This is a really full bodied, big room filler of a scent. My son enjoyed it so much that I agreed to put this candle in his room for part of its burn time, but while he was in school, I shuffled this jar candle back out by me. This was my personal favorite of the four scents I sampled from Little Mac’s Candles. It smelled both fruity and floral in equal measures which is like a double whammy bonus as far as I’m concerned.

How did my candles from Little Mac’s Candles burn?

My candles burned well, although I wasn’t immediately head over heels for the wicks. They tended to get smoky. I could see black smoke puffing from my jars and soot clung to the glass.

I made sure to keep my wicks trimmed down to the tiniest nub and dipped the wicks to extinguish them instead of blowing them out. By doing these two things, I made my peace with the wicks.

The wax pooled to the edges on all of the containers I tried. It melted completely leaving the jar sides mostly clear of wax residue. I did need to wipe soot from the glass occasionally. The candle colors were brilliant and beautiful. All of the scents I tried were really strong… much stronger than I expected from the various jar sizes that I sampled.

Closing to my review…

Little Mac’s Candles did well making these fruity and fresh scented candles. The customer service was first rate, and my candles were packaged with obvious care and attention.

Hawaiian Escape was my favorite scent of the four that I tried, followed closely by the Lemon Drop scent. Even though the Watermelon Slices wasn’t for me, it may be just right to someoneLittle Mac's Candles scented candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle lovers else’s nose.

I like the idea of customizing the shape and color of the candles… that would be great for personalized gift giving… and as luck would have it…there is a current sale offer of free shipping for any order over $50.

Happy candle smelling!
