Introduction to My Yankee Candle Review…
My first official Yankee candle review. Hard to believe since these candles are literally everywhere and I pretty much buy anything with a wick in a jar. (smiling) – – I think the main reason I’m not a regular Yankee shopper, one word answer – price. These candles aren’t cheap and with so many competitive brands out there… they’re not as alluring. I’m sure that will change since they’re having some awesome sales on their site… with the right price range, those are though to resist.
So how did I get my hands on two Lemony delicious Yankee scents? Well – “Lemon” was a key note in both (I love lemon) and I caught a great sale. 🙂
What Do My Yankee Candles Look Like?
My jars are their big 26oz size and are in classic apothecary style jars with domed lids. Lemon Zest was yellow and Lemon Lavender a light purple color. (seen to the left) Both candles are single wicked.
How Did My Yankee Candles Smell?
Lemon Zest:
I feel like a broken record here but I love lemon scents and in pretty much every variation. It’s fresh, clean, vibrant and a wonderful odor neutralizer. Lemon is generally really strong as well.
When I first smelled this candle, I detected a lightly sweet lemon scent but nothing really spectacular. Not unusual though… a scent can become bolder once the candle is lit. Here is the scent description from Yankee’s website:
“Savor a vivacious scent with the tangy glow of citrus to stimulate your spirits!”
I really wanted to love this scent and it was nice and I liked it but it didn’t really *wow* me. It was simply just ok. I don’t know how else to describe it. Strength wise for this large candle was pretty weak, on a scale of 1 to 10 – I would give this one a 3 or 4. It was not very strong.
I tried my tarts next and boy what a difference! I threw a tart in my tart burner and not even 5 minutes into melting it, my entire downstairs family room was saturated with scent. Now that’s what I was after!! This was the strength I was after in my large candle. The sweet and zesy lemon really shined through in this melt an made all the difference.
With that said, next time I’m shopping for Yankee candles and I see Lemon Zest… I’ll probably purchase melts.
Lemon Lavender:
I don’t know what possessed me to buy this candle other than “lemon” was part of the scent. I am not a fan of lavender. After smelling this candle, I am SOOO glad I did because this scent was so fresh, unique and different. I LOVED it!! Here is the scent description from Yankee’s site:
“Clean and inviting … a powdery fresh blend of tangy lemon citrus and sweet lavender flowers.”
That’s a perfect description. It is clean, fresh and vibrant and whatever else is in there, it tames down the lavender so much that I can’t even smell flowers at all. This isn’t an easy scent to describe either. It does seem a little powdery and the citrus stands out the most which is one of the reasons I loved it so much. The unique quality had to be the lavender. For some reason the lavender mixed with lemon created a very lovely and unique fragrance. It’s soft and zesty at the same time and soothing.
I burned two candles in my great-room and the throw was wonderful. It wasn’t overpowering but loud and clear and put smiles on my face every time I had these candles burning. My family loved this one as well… I received several positive comments while I had them burning.
Strength wise, this candle gave a nice medium throw. It was perfect!
I also melted several tarts for a few days and the throw on those were incredible. I was “wowed” in fact so tarts are a clear winner. Next time I shop for Yankee products, I’ll for sure stock up on it just in case this becomes a discontinued scent in the future. Definitely give this one a try if you love fruity/floral/ clean type scents. You won’t be disappointed.
How Did My Yankee Candles Burn?
I’m not a fan of single wicked candles. These candles burn forever, I’ll give them that but boy does it take all day to even get a complete melt pool. I did keep my wicks trimmed and didn’t have a soot or smoke problem like I know a lot of you have from your posts on the board. All I can say is trimming your wicks does indeed help a lot.
Overall Opinion of My Candles from Yankee:
Even though I’m not a huge Yankee Candle fan, they do have some great candles and fragrances worth buying. Yankee is the #1 candle company for a reason.
I enjoyed both candles with Lemon Lavender standing out the most for me. This is a scent I’ll for sure continue to buy – I loved it!
This brand is convenient to purchase from through stores or their online website which is very-very easy to shop on. They offer flat rate shipping and are always offering sales so who knows… I’m sure I’ll be back for more. If so… will post my thoughts as I burn through each candle.
Until then, happy candle shopping!

I love both of these scents and purchase them every year. Highly recommend them. Especially if you love fruity scents. The Lavender is nice and not floral at all, it smells more fresh and herbal. I just love it.
