First impression of Lavender & Sage from Colonial Candle:

The moment I spied Lavender & Sage on Colonial’s website, I wanted it. Not so much because of the fragrance – that’s a given – but more because of the vessel itself. This candle was simply too cool and unique to pass up. The shape of the candle was geometrical (kind of like a roughly cut jewel) and made out of cement with copper colors painted on the bottom of the vessel. See picture above for visual reference. Cool right? I thought it was.

Here is the scent description for Lavender & Sage I pulled from Colonial’s website:

A relaxing fragrance composed of aromatic citrus with lavender flowers and sage leaves.

Mmmm! This candle smelled SO good!! Putting my nose in the wax, it kind of reminded me of a unisex perfume. Actually, it smelled masculine. Sage and lavender? I wasn’t smelling too much of either which I found odd. Sage is pretty distinctive. So is lavender, so you think I’d smell one or the other. I didn’t. Just based off cold sniff, I’m sticking with a masculine kind of unisex fragrance rather than an herbal sage and lavender. Bonus! Just as I was about to light my candle, I found another scent description printed on the insert/label laying on top of the wax, and there was one added ingredient that solved a mystery for me.

Aromatic citrus with lavender, sandalwood and sage leaves.

Sandalwood!!! That’s what I was smelling and why I thought this candle smelled so masculine. Sandalwood and citrus combined tends to be masculine. Just look at the majority of men’s colognes on the market and you’ll typically find both in the mix more often than not.

Time to light my candle.

Lavender Sage Candle Review

I decided to stay conservative and stick to a small bathroom to burn this candle in, and it was a perfect choice. The aroma…. Mmmmm! A light fragrance of sandalwood and fresh citrus filled my powder room with aroma. The sandalwood was creamy and sultry. The citrus fresh and bright. A perfect combination that seriously had me taking deep breathes of every time I walked into the room. I could totally picture this scent on my skin as a body lotion or body splash. It’s definitely a “wearable” kind of scent.

Strength – on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate Lavender & Sage from Colonial a 6/7 out of 10 in a really small room. 4 or less in a medium room. It wasn’t a super strong fragrance but I don’t generally mind that. I still burn candles in smaller rooms so that’s where this candle went and it was perfect.

How did my Lavender & Sage candle burn?

Sadly, I was a little disappointed with this candle’s performance. The wick burned fine but the candle itself never reached a full melt pool so a thick layer of wax remained along the cement wall. Not a super huge issue but one I always like to point out if it happens. To fix that, I used my wick dipper to push the wax that wouldn’t melt back into the melt pool. It took some work and it didn’t look as pretty but the wax eventually all melted to the end. I’m kind of picky about that. I don’t like wasted wax.

Closing to my review:

Performance aside, I thoroughly enjoyed my Lavender & Sage candle and I’m actually thinking about purchasing another one before Colonial’s sale ends on these candles. The fragrance itself… a sultry masculine scent I won’t be tiring of anytime soon. I just find it funny I couldn’t smell a lick of lavender or sage in this fragrance, no matter how hard I tried. Go figure?

The candle itself.. SO cool!! I hope Colonial keeps these geometrical candles around for a while. If they do, my hope is they eventually fix how uneven they burn. That was the only bummer.

I have three more fragrances in this line to burn and review so stay tuned. More reviewing coming…

Happy candle hunting!
