Intro To My Candle Review

LAFCO makes some beautiful candles – lovely containers and complex, gorgeous scents that tend to spread scent throughout your home. I was anxious to try Pumpkin Pomander – a LAFCO holiday candle I ran upon while visiting Chicago. I don’t see this sized scent currently available on the website, and I’m not sure it was offered there. LAFCO Holiday Candle Pumpkin Pomander

First Impressions of My Candle

This LAFCO holiday candle came in a beautiful silver gift box that would be perfect for gift giving as is. The company and scent name were clearly displayed on the box. This was the larger candle, at 15.5 ounces. The beautiful candle was nestled inside the gift box. The handblown art glass jar was amber in color and simply beautiful. The candle was hefty in my hands, making it feel of great quality. There was a single, well-placed wick in the center and the wax was white in color.

The cold sniff was light and a little perfumey – something I wasn’t expecting! I decided to head to the scent description, available on the website for a more decorative, smaller size candle:

LAFCO Website

Aha! Pumpkin, citrus, spices, and floral goodness! That’s why the scent was a bit different than what I was expecting. Leave it to LAFCO to blend all these together in a wonderful fragrance.

I was excited to see how this would all mean in the burn. As most LAFCO candles I’ve tried have a great throw, I decided to try this one out in a large, open kitchen. I lit the candle and let it burn for about half an hour before noticing some gorgeous citrusy notes with some pumpkin spice. After the candle burned a little longer, I started noticing those perfumey/floral notes again. Soft floral notes that were so pretty. They made for an odd but lovely combo with the pumpkin spices.

This candle had a softer scent than what I’m used to from LAFCO. The scent did throw well – I smelled the scent wafting on throughout the lower level of the home, but it was definitely more on the mild side scent strength wise. That would make it great for a holiday gathering, as it was warm and soft enough to make the place festive without being offensive to scent-sensitive guests.

How Did My Candle Perform?

Honestly, another bit of a disappointment with this candle. I let the candle burn for a few hours on first burn, but I never did get a full wax melt pool. There was just a little bit of wax hang up on the sides of the jar. The flame was pretty robust and I did have mushrooming throughout. The candle burned cleanly and I didn’t notice any black sooting. This was definitely a slow-burning candle. While we didn’t burn this candle all the way down, we would estimate the stated 90 hour burn time fairly accurate based on how long it took to burn 1/4 of the jar.

Closing To My Candle Review

I am a LAFCO fan and that’s no different with this particular LAFCO holiday candle. While I am a little disappointed with the scent strength, the throw itself was fantastic. And I would have liked a completely full wax melt pool. Still, the scent was so intriguing and beautiful, I could overlook this and would definitely repurchase again.
