We absolutely love Candlemart! The variety of scents and products, combined with the super reasonable pricing and awesome customer service make us jump for joy. One of the recent wax melts we tried, Kraken’s Lair, was part of the TimberWick™ line, just like Cedar Oakwood, which we previously reviewed. We wondered just what this mysterious melt would bring.

Packaging/Presentation
The clamshell wax melts at Candlemart are not your typical clamshells. The packages are longer and sectioned into three. Those sections are further partially sectioned into four pieces, so you can easily break off as little or as much as you would like. Some of the wax melts have different colors per section. The Kraken’s Lair melts were varying shades of blue, which was a very lovely aesthetic.
The label on the package showed a creepy looking octopus lying in wait. Loved the label art on this one! The company and scent names were easily located on the front label.
Authenticity
On cold sniff, I thought this smelled a little cologne-y and woodsy. Looking at the scent description, I found:

Candlemart
Hmmm…no musk notes as I expected! Still, the scent on cold sniff was really good. Once I started melting Kraken’s Lair, I found the complexity of the scent to be divine. There were more warm, woodsy notes with some bright citrus notes, too. I could smell a bit of the earthiness of oakmoss. I couldn’t pick out any floral notes, but the scent was beautiful nonetheless.
Scent Strength & Scent Throw
Loved the scent throw with my Kraken’s Lair wax melts! I used one section (4 rectangular pieces) in my 24W hotplate melter in a large bedroom. I could smell the fragrance all throughout the bedroom and even creeping on out in the halls. The scent was moderately strong but the throw was really good.
Melt Performance
I kept this wax melt going for a large portion of the day in my melter, turning the melter off at the end of the day. I was able to enjoy more of the fragrance the following day as I turned it back on. I used an entire section and certainly think I could have used half of one to make the entire package last me even longer.
Conclusion
Candlemart has hit the nail on the head with this TimberWick Black Sands Collection. The scents are complex, strong, and just a whole lot of fun! We definitely found the Kraken’s Lair wax melts to be a winner and will buy these again and again!
