Introduction to my review of scented candles from K’s Kreations:
Kathy, (the “K” in K’s Kreations), is fond of doing crafts – and enjoys making things for others. She sees her candles as “a gift from the heart”. K’s Kreations offers “All Natural Soy Candles”, and they are made in South Bend Indiana, in Kathy’s home.
The website for K’s Kreations is simple and soft, the graphics are floral, but they are subtle. There is not a lot of busy clutter making it easy to find your way around. Wisely, she has labeled her top category “Sale” – the place most of us look first! ( It seems it is a toss up. I head to the scent list or the sale category whenever I find a new candle vendor’s site.) The “new products” section on this site contains some of the new scents that are being tested. I am looking forward to the Fizzy Cola!
K’s Kreations offers soy tarts (scallops and clams), votives and tealights, flowerpots, tins, jars and apothecary style containers. K’s Kreations also offers fundraising services for groups that want to raise money for their organizations while increasing the wax addicts in the community.
How do my candles and melts look?
My candles are the glass apothecary style, the 4 oz VBN is white, the larger 10 oz. Cranberry Orange Spice is pinkish with two wicks and the brown 10 oz. Log Cabin candle has two wicks as well. The soft green floral label is on the front of each. These melts are plump scallop style tarts, and each is packed in its own little re-sealable bag with the K’s Kreation label on each.
How do my candles from K’s Kreations smell?
Log Cabin
“A weekend retreat for the outdoorsman in everyone!! A warm rustic blend of earthy woods and spices with a fresh burst of pine.”
I really enjoy testing unique scents like this. This scent really does smell rugged – it reminds me of many masculine scents like wood smoke, tobacco, woods, and spice. Because I usually do not gravitate toward the smokey scents, this scent is not my first choice in flavors – but it really does give the house an autumnal, drafty-hunting-lodge feel and it made me want to look around for a red flannel shirt and learn how to carve duck decoys!
Kathy says she has a customer that has to have this scent every fall and I can see how it could become a tradition. A scent like this signals the change in season. The 10 oz candle had a medium throw – I could smell it lightly in a 16 by 16 room, and it was very strong in a 12 by 12 room.
The Log Cabin melt was one strong melt! If this is not your kind of scent, it may be too much for you!
Vanilla Bean Noel
“The aroma of freshly baked sugar cookies with buttercream frosting, with fresh notes of vanilla extract. Possibly the best cookie fragrance we have ever smelled!”
This is a contemporary classic! What is not to like about this scent, I ask?! Vanilla can be tricky, sometimes it is too subtle and it is a scent that does not cover up any “under scent” the tart or candle wax carries. The good thing about Kathy’s Vanilla Bean Noel candle and tart – no under notes or “off” scents were found.
Often VBN contains the addition of a touch of caramel to help give richness to the scent. Although it is not listed here, (which tickles me since I am not a big caramel-scent fan!), this version is still very rich and buttery – and yes, when I smell it, the first thing that comes mind is a big bowl of vanilla butter cream frosting, just like the description promises.
The candle was a small 4 oz candle, so it was tested in the powder room where it lightly scented the air. The tart was a surprise! It gave a huge blast of scent in a tealight melter for about 2 hours. Shorter than some, but more intense! (Good for those of us that like to swap out scents frequently.)
Cranberry Orange Spice
“This is a great blend of cranberry spice and orange – but believe it or not, you actually get more orange than you do cranberry! This is really an orange clove, cranberry spice mix – like a simmering potpourri!”
The description is right on for this one! If you have ever gone to a Harvest Festival or autumn craft show, you will recognize this scent right away – it makes you think about when you go up into the attic and haul down all those fall decorations, (don’t we all have a version of the ubiquitous dried fall wreath with straw flowers and dried or preserved seedpods and pinecones?). The orange zest and those comforting autumn spices were the most noticeable just as promised. The fragrance notes were the same in both the candle and the melt. As mentioned in the description, the cranberry was not a strong note my nose found – until I placed the candle in a very small powder room. The scenting in this room had hints of the cranberries along with the spices. I would use this scent as a late fall into the Holidays scent.
This was the lightest of the three scents I tested. The candle was best suited to a medium to small room. The melt lasted about one tealight and also was lighter than the other two, but it still scented a medium room.
How do my candles burn?
The candles are the apothecary style, and two-wicked, they burn nicely. I did not have any trouble at all with soot, and they did not leave wax on this side of the jars at all. I trimmed the wicks a small amount. It always worries me at trim time – I sometimes cut them then end up with drowning wicks! Not the case here, they burned fine after mild trimming.
Final Thoughts….
K’s Kreations is another great vendor! The candles burn cleanly and the packaging is attractive – and all you have to do is look at the long list of testimonials on her site to see how many fans Kathy has. It is easy to see why, I will have no trouble ordering from her again! It is a new year and maybe you are ringing it in with a new vendor or two? Take a look at K’s and if you like to hunt for specials, remember about the sales link at the top of the menu and be sure to visit her Facebook page!Happy candle smelling!
