First impression of Jack O Lantern:
Eeeeeeek!! It’s Halloween time and I’ve had to really limit myself on which Halloween candles to purchase and review this year. I chose Jack O Lantern from Colonial because it looks so adorable AND it was on mega sale!! I caught their 50% off sale two weeks ago. What candle lover can resist that?
Jack O Lantern is described as:
Make your Halloween super happy with the aroma of a freshly carved pumpkin, enhanced by warm and inviting spices as well as the yummy sweet goodness of vanilla, pecan brown sugar and maple.
Mmmm!! Everything in that description sounds wonderful and full of bakery goodness. Vanilla, pumpkin, pecan brown sugar and maple? I imagine a sweet pumpkin cake when I think of all those ingredients. And then I smelled the wax and I was super confused. To me, the wax smelled like black licorice with maybe hints of vanilla and sugar. I didn’t smell any pumpkin, brown sugar or maple. Very strange. It still smelled good… just not what I was expecting.
Let’s light my candle and see how it performs!
I went bold and lit my Jack O Lantern candle in my master bedroom. This candle resembled Bath & Body Works 3 wick candles so hoping the 3 wicks and wide jar would throw like crazy in a large room. (((Crossing fingers.))) Once the wicks were lit, it took a good half hour to reach a full melt pool but the fragrance was present long before that and it was interesting, and quite delightful! The licorice element remained the dominant aroma but the vanilla with hints of brown sugar came to life as well creating a really unique bakery aroma. At times, I even thought this candle smelled like root beer soda and then an hour later I would come back and it smelled bakery again. The pumpkin, spices and maple in the description never did manifest for me. Not to my nose anyway. To me, this scent was all licorice and vanilla which was funny because licorice isn’t even in the scent description. Go figure.
Strength – This candle gave an excellent scent throw. 10 out of 10 in any size room. LOVED!
How did my Jack O Lantern candle burn?
This candle burned perfect. Zero wick issues. Clean burning from beginning to end. Very little wick maintenance too.
Closing to my review:
I really enjoyed Jack O Lantern from Colonial. The aroma itself wasn’t what I was expecting but in the end, I didn’t mind at all. I loved this scent exactly the way it was. Licorice, vanilla and brown sugar. Sounds like an odd combo for sure but it worked and smelled quite yummy. Kind of like candy corn and licorice combined but with lots of vanilla. The only thing I found odd was that licorice was clearly present in this fragrance but never indicated in the scent description. It made me question my smelling skills. So much so, I had my husband and both my kids smell it just to see and they all agreed… licorice all the way. PHEW! I’m not losing it. lol!!
If you’re searching for a great Halloween scent that is a combo of candy and bakery, I highly recommend this candle. I loved it! Every bit of it.
