Honey Lavender Gelato Yankee Candle Review
By Christina Rylan
Brand: Yankee Candle
Type: Large 22oz candle
Fragrance: Honey Lavender Gelato
Scent Strength: Medium in a small room
First impression of Honey Lavender Gelato:
I have been on a huge lavender kick this summer so when I saw Honey Lavender Gelato, a new scent from Yankee this year on sale, I felt compelled to purchase one to review. Of course, I had to get the large candle since it’s the better deal, a size that takes weeks to burn. You definitely get your money’s worth purchasing Yankee’s large jar but for someone like me who reviews so many candles, it’s kind of excruciating burning a large candle. Why? Because when I start a candle, I have to finish it to the very end before I start a new one. I’m a little OCD in that regard.
Okay, onto the fragrance itself. Here is the scent description for Honey Lavender Gelato:
A refreshing lavender treat that’s bursting with flavor and topped with cool berry and warm honey.
Fragrance Notes:
Top: Blackberry
Mid: Lavender
Base: Vanilla Cream, Honey
Sounds pretty perfect!! First impression when I smelled the wax… a soothing and creamy lavender that had some sweetness to it as well. I detected the base notes for sure – sweet vanilla dominated with lavender next along with a teeny hint of honey in the background. Blackberry? Not so sure but maybe that part will come to life once the candle was burning.
Let’s find out!!
I lit this candle in a small bathroom to start out and that’s where it stayed to the very end. I wanted maximum scent throw with this aroma and definitely achieved that in a small room. Once the wick was lit, it took several hours to reach a full melt pool but the scent started moving through the room long before that and boy was it a fresh and unique scent. The aroma… vanilla cream was definitely the base with a fresh lavender a close second. The honey was definitely there along with blackberry as well. Yep… the blackberry notes really came out once the candle was burning and all blended together, the scent was very refreshing and soothing. I really enjoyed it, more than I thought I would.
Strength – in a really small room, I would rate this candle a 7 out of 10. Not sure I would attempt in anything larger but if you do, try melts or burning two candles at once.
How did my candle burn?
This candle burned pretty good. A teeny film of wax was left along the glass wall but not enough to concern me. Other than that, clean and even burn.
Closing to my review:
What a great scent Honey Lavender Gelato turned out to be. I loved it!! If you love soothing lavender scents, this would be a great candle to try. It was unique enough to hold your attention and it had so many great elements to it that made it really different. It was soothing, fresh, sweet and an all-around lovely scent. I would absolutely purchase this fragrance again.
Yankee has been having some great sales so I would wait for one before purchasing. I think I paid $12 dollars for this large candle. That’s a steal!
Happy candle hunting!

hi- i got this by mistake and was thinking of returning it- but after reading your review, I may try burning it to see if i like it and can always return it (though a pain!) if it ends up being too weak or not to my liking~ (i tend to like vanilla’s or “cookie/bakery” type candles- caramels, etc. But i also do like some florals. (i really don’t like the aromatherapy scents like lavender typically) But i’ll give it a shot!
Thank you for your time!

Hi Debra,
If you try it, let me know what you thought. I love cookie and bakery scents too, more than anything else but sometimes I’m just in the mood for something fresh and for some reason, I love lavender. I loved this one and will purchase it again for sure. 🙂
