Evoke Candle Co. has come out with their 2020 summer tour of candles, including this Heavy Metal Candle in today’s review. The candles all revolve around iconic musical memories, with the candle designs carefully crafted to reflect the scent and mood. The Heavy Metal candle is appropriately scented as a frothy beer. I was intrigued enough to see how realistic this scent would be. From my past experience with Evoke candles, I knew the performance would be top notch. Beer scented candles aren’t usually in my wheelhouse of home fragrance, but I was certainly curious enough to try!

Packaging/Presentation
One of the things I absolutely love about the Evoke candles is the attention to detail in each and every candle they make. This Heavy Metal candle was no exception. The box was black and had depictions of the throwing horns covering the box. The scent name and company name were clearly displayed on the box, as well as the fragrance note (‘beer’).
Once opening the box, I found the candle wrapped in black colored tissue paper, which I find a nice, elegant touch. The candle vessel was black, keeping ‘on theme,’ and had the wording Heavy Metal along with the throwing horns sign on one side. The wording and symbol were silver in color, which made for a super cool look. This candle didn’t have a label you could remove, but you could turn it to the backside if you didn’t want to display the branding. The wax was soy and uncolored, and there was a single, thick wick in the center. I did find the wick long enough where I needed to trim it before the first light. No metal core in this wick…yay!
The candle was 13.5 ounces and heavy in the hand, obviously of good quality. Just a really gorgeous candle that held true to the theme from the box on down to the candle vessel itself.
Authenticity
I took a cold sniff of this candle and yep…smelled like beer! I’m not a big beer drinker myself, but I can certainly pick out the scent. This candle was dead-on for the fragrance…it was unreal! Looking at the website’s scent description:
Leather. Guitars. Drums. Black Concert Tees. Ringing ears for days. Our Heavy Metal Candle has it all – from its black jar to the throwing horns and beer scent. The only thing missing is the music. So, put on your fav heavy tunes, light this candle up and in no time, you will be banging your head!
The scent notes are also listed as ‘hops, yeast, and herbal.’ Once I lit my candle, the fullness of the scent came out. I could smell some earthiness and more of the yeast scent. It was amazingly realistic. It smelled like I could even smell the frothy head. As it burned more, it seemed a little warmer with almost some caramel like notes to it. It was simply perfection in a jar.
Scent Strength & Scent Throw
I had placed this candle in a medium sized room as I was not sure what to expect from this type of fragrance. I noticed that the fragrance was actually pretty strong…stronger than I really expected. It filled that room with fragrance easily. I could tell I had the candle going no matter where I was in the room.
I moved the candle out to a larger space and I think it did much better in the medium sized room. In a large, open-space, I would want two of them going at opposite ends. Still, the scent strength and throw on this particular candle was really good and much better than I anticipated.
Burn Performance
This candle had an absolutely flawless burn. It took it a little over an hour to fully pool out, but it did reach all the way to the edges. The flame stayed nice and big, yet manageable. I burned my candle for about 3-4 hours at a time and never noticed an unruly flame or any black sooting. As the candle continued to burn, I didn’t get any wax hung up on the sides. It stayed well fragranced even as it continued to burn down. As I’ve come to expect from Evoke Candles, zero problems with the candle burn.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed this Heavy Metal candle from Evoke Candle Co. This beer scented candle was off my normal beaten bath, but one I enjoyed nonetheless. The scent was really authentic and the candle was pretty fragrant. It would do really well in small to medium sized rooms. I would get two for larger, open spaces. The candle had a nice, clean burn, which is what I expect from Evoke Candles. This candle is an Editor’s Choice due to the solid scores in all categories.
