First impression of Grapefruit Ebony Bark:

The moment I saw Grapefruit Ebony Bark, I was intrigued. I know what grapefruit smells like (wax wise) but ebony bark? I had no idea what that combo would be like.

Here is the scent description from Village Candle’s website:

Ripe citrus notes are paired with the earthy smell of the woods giving a refreshing harmony that awakens your senses.

Hmmm…. sounds promising. I love citrus and I love woodsy scents, so I think I’m going to like this combo. First impression, my nose detected the citrus first and then hints of musk second. It was an interesting aroma.

Grapefruit Bark Candle Review

I liked it. Now let’s see what this candle smells like burning….

I started this candle in my master bedroom and ended up moving it soon after to a small bathroom. A really small bathroom. The fragrance was way too light even for a medium size room. Once moved, much better. The aroma from then on out was still subtle but it smelled really good. My powder room was filled with a fresh citrus mingled with masculine woods. It wasn’t too masculine and it wasn’t too citrus’y. It was a perfect blending of the two. The only bummer was how light it was. Even in my small powder room, the aroma was extremely light.

Which brings me to strength – I would rate this candle a 4 out of 10 in a really small room. For a two-wick candle from Village, that’s very surprising.

How Did My Candle Burn?

This candle burned okay. The only critique I have would be wick trimming. I had to REALLY stay on top of keeping both wicks trimmed the first half of this candle. If I didn’t, the flames became huge torches. Once it hit the halfway point, the wicks tapered down and it burned perfect from then on out. Weird.

Closing to My Grapefruit Ebony Bark Candle Review:

I enjoyed Grapefruit Ebony Bark but it was so light, I won’t be purchasing it again. That’s too bad because the scent really was nice. A fresh citrus with the perfect touch of masculine woodsy notes. That’s my kind of fragrance.

If you’ve been wondering about Village candles, don’t let this review discourage you. Village has a nice variety of other fragrances worth checking out. I’m not sorry I tried Grapefruit Ebony Bark… I’m just sorry it wasn’t stronger.

Happy candle hunting!
