A warm, delicious cookie scent that was too light for our noses.

Pros

  • Very authentic fragrance
  • Clean burn

Cons

  • Super light scent & throw

It’s time for things that go bump in the night! That’s why it was our time to fire back up the Ghost Stories candle from Goose Creek. We’ve reviewed it on our site before, but we thought it was time for a re-visit and re-fresh!

Packaging/Presentation

Goose Creek Ghost Stories Candle

Our Ghost Stories candle was the large apothecary style candle jar from Goose Creek Candles. It had a light brown wax and a single wick. The label was adorable! It had some “scary” jack-o-lanterns, black cats, and more that you would equate with a spooky Halloween night. Someone was obviously enjoying reading a spooky tale or two, as the book was captured in the label photo, too.

Authenticity

Ghost Stories was a last-minute purchase for me. Basically, I saw it, read the description and fell in love. Fresh baked cookies?! Say no more!!

Here is the scent description for the Ghost Stories candle:

Spooky stories are being told as the delightful aroma of warm, fresh baked cookies fill the air. Top:Iced Vanilla Cookie, Whipped Buttercream; Mid:Warm Vanilla Bean; Base:Powdered Sugar, Soft Caramel

Goose Creek

The notes of vanilla cookie, whipped buttercream, and soft caramel sounded like one heck of a cookie! I was crossing my fingers that it smelled exactly like the scent description…I wouldn’t mind munching on these cookies with a hot cup of tea on a frightful Halloween night. Who needs candy?

Smelling the wax, I was a little perplexed. There was a clear sweetness to the wax but I also smelled a light perfume note in the mix as well. A perfume cookie? Hmmm…I was curious about how it would smell once the wax was warmed.

Once it started burning, I noticed a light and sugary cookie scent filling my powder room with aroma. On a happy note, the perfume notes I first detected did go away and all I could smell was a warm bakery scent. Another happy note – everything in the description was there. The warm vanilla cookie, buttercream, powdered sugar with hints of sweet caramel. It smelled really, really good.

Scent Strength & Scent Throw

I lit my Ghost Stories candle in a small room to start out. I came back an hour later and the fragrance was pretty darn light. So light, in fact, that I decided to move it into an even smaller room – my powder room. The aroma stayed very light, even in my tiny powder room. I would walk into my bathroom and the aroma simply teased me. When I got close to the candle and sniffed… Mmmm!! Cookies galore!! But when I moved away from the candle, it went back to a very subtle fragrance. Not going to lie, that bummed me out. This candle smelled really good, it just needed to be much stronger to really enjoy.

Which brings me to strength – in a small room, I would rate Ghost Stories a 3-4 out of 10. A medium room was about 1 out of 10. Not very strong at all.

Burn Performance

This candle burned great. Zero wick issues. I didn’t even have to do very much wick maintenance at all. I had a super clean burn from beginning to end.

Conclusion

The Ghost Stories candle from Goose Creek was the perfect sweet cookie scent…it just lacked the strength required to even scent a small room. At least that was my experience. I’m using the rest of my candle on a candle warmer, as I’m getting a bit better result that way. If you give this scent a try, I hope you achieve a better result than I did. Happy Halloween!
