I have always been an avid lover of candles for years but I've always stuck with YC cuz that's the best candle I know...until I signed up with this site and realized there must be a whole lotta great candles out there I do not know of. I recently bought some white tarts from McCall's that were super-strong & lasted two days. The Yanks usually last half a day dep on scent. So...I need to get some feedback on some great smellin candle in general. I am a floral, fresh scented kind of person and like stronger scents tho Pink Sands by YC is CLASSIC! But I also love the midsummers nite too so my taste varies, with the Pink Sands I have to burn two tumblers or combine it w another scent. Im also just trying out oils, havent gotten them yet but my next mission. [smilie=th_excited-1] b/c I'm sure ill b burnin tarts, candles AND oils together! Any good sites to find good candles, if thats permissable on these threads? [smilie=th_confused3].

Anyway, hope to hear back from some of u all cuz u seem to know a wide variety of brands Im unfamiliar with. [smilie=feedback]

Oh, you have TOTALLY come to the right place!

It sounds like we like the same kind of scents, I love fruits, floral, clean, earthy, and detest bakery (which seems to be highly popular around here)

::::::ducking at the eggs being thrown at me:::::

When I found my way here, I found some kind of thread about top vendors and I have tried several that kept coming up in the discussions of people who've been around here awhile. Have you seen the review board? Whenever I see things being mentioned, I usually head over there and look for detailed reviews, as well as a link to the site, so very convenient. (a little hard on the PayPal account, tho)

[smilie=th_TONGUE22111]

Some of the ones I really like are Nene's Kitchen Melts, Lasting Scent Candles, Haleys Heavenly Scents, Soy Breeze, Can-Do Candles, LOL, Delightful Scents and I am a new fan of Candles from the Keeping Room (on eBay).

(oh and YES we can mention the names here!)

[smilie=th_aa17]

So pull up a laptop and enjoy! Be sure and check out the eyecandy posted on the WaxP0rn, and read what everyone else has ordered on the What's the Damage thread (so you don't feel so guilty about what you spend), and the Daily thread about what everyone's melting. And there's lots lots more.

So for now,

Laurie pretty much said it all. It takes awhile to figure out what works for you, but the names that pop up most often on the boards, plus reading the reviews can help you make a shorter list of what to try first. I know it's really confusing when you start! Sign up for newsletters and "like" on Facebook the places you're interested in. That will keep you in the loop for any specials, which is helpful when trying out new vendors.

If you like huge throw, I think Lasting Scent has the most bang for the buck, but she only offers tarts. Her prices are about half what most others are but her throw is just as strong and long-lasting (if not moreso). Candles By Victoria offers tarts, candles and oils and has a big variety of fresh and florals, including house blends and Yankee dupes. She's more expensive but also has big throw.

HAHA! Very funny aout the festive/food scents. Yes, for some reason I have never been a fan, they make me want to eat sugar or something! I just picked up some more tumblers last nite and finally tried some oils, which r [smilie=th_fabulous1] ! I got a blue hydrangea & early sunrise & island spa. The last two smell very similar and give off amazing scents. I also got some oils and tried the Clean Cotton oil w/ a McCalls winterland tart (they r super strong and smell a little minty). So, I was inundated w/ new scents. And, yes, thank you for answering b/c I will check out all of the links you mentioned. [smilie=th_teks0311] again and keep me abreast of the type and brands you like.

Island Spa and Sun N Sand are my absolute favorite YC scents, I did try Early Sunrise but got no throw at all, I was so disappointed. Maybe a bad batch.

u must have! i take it the term "throw" means you didn't get fragrance from it, never heard the term-like it. Yep, Early Sunrise is as strong maybe a hint lighter than the Island Spa. You should have taken it back and explained it to the store where u bought it, if it was a YC store b/c they probably would've let u try another one. I just tried the lavender lemon oil and that is a great scent. Too bad they dont carry it in two-wick tumblers b/c for some reason I get any throw from any of the YC jars except Vineyard and Patchouli, weird huh? What are your favorite brands of candles? I like strong floral or fresh scents.

Yup, throw is the amount of scent it puts off. I think the Early Sunrise did come from the YC Store at the mall, my daughter had gotten it for me as a Christmas gift (I trained them where to shop for me ! LOL)

I have had a few Yankee Candles (jars) that were okay, I actually bought a couple of *swirls* that were pretty good off eBay. I don't burn too much in the way of candles since I became obsessed with melts, but my absolute favorite candles are Morenci. I found out about them (of all places) at my dentist's office. They had one burning in there and the whole place smelled wonderful. One of the hygenists' there sold them. I guess you can order them online but the shipping is high. I don't know if you can contact the company for a dealer near you, but MAN O MAN they scent your whole house. Double wicked too (I always got the "spool" kind if you look at their website) If you should ever find any, I recommend Tuscan Lemongrass, Night Jasmine, Citrus Cooler, Mimosa Mandarin, Man in a Jar and Pikake.

I'm sure lots of others here can point you to some good candles, I have been strictly Morenci (with a few YC) but the Morenci are waaaaaay stronger and cleaner burn.

[edit]

Hey, I just checked and Morenci candles are on eBay, they're "buy it now" for $15.99 with free shipping. I started out paying $12 per candle with the lady who sells them, then they went up to $13. I'm not sure how this price compares to other candle vendors, as I said, I don't do any other kinds]

So excited to find another Morenci lover on here! They are my absolute favorite candle and I have tried MANY!! My favorite scents are Southern Pecan Pie, Mimosa Mandarin, Backroad's Bakery and Blueberry Cheesecake.

I am fortunate to have a local floral shop that sells them. Check out their website for retail locations and see if there is one near you! They are well worth paying the shipping cost if there are no retailers nearby!

SERIOUSLY?!

OMG, I thought I was the only one! When I first got here I read and read and nobody was talking about Morenci. I looked over on the Review Board and nada. I even ASKED about them and nobody else had tried or heard of them. They are the best candles I have EVER had as far as scenting your whole house. Granted, I am not a huge candle connoisseur, but these are WAY too good to be such a well-kept secret!

[smilie=th_yay]

Oh, I am so happy to find someone else who loves them!!!

For Real! I think they have spoiled me for sure, they will be a tough act to follow. I will definately check and see if any retailers carry them, but for now the lady from my dentist's office is my source. You said you found them at a local retailer, are you in Texas? (I think that's where they're made) If so, LUCKY DOG! I can't complain too much, the gal I get mine from always orders whatever I want on my wish list and she usually has a couple of "parties" where she displays and sells them, usually around the holidays.

I always get some for teacher presents, I make a really easy project with Dollar Store glass plates , covered with holiday material and mod-podged (I'll have to take a pic to share), and then I put the candle on top and some candies or cookies.

Anyway, I have been hooked on them for a few years now, they've added quite a few scents since I started. One scent that I absolutely LOVED was called Turquoise Paradise. They stopped selling it, and I even wrote and asked if it would ever be back and was told "no". Had I known, I would have stocked up! I don't go for bakery or food scents at all, so my favorites are Fruity (Mimosa Mandarin, Citrus Cooler, Pomegranite, Bird of Paradise, Man In A Jar, Imaginary Girlfriend, Tuscan Lemongrass, Pikake, Pinon Wood, Raindrops, Night Jasmine, Pink Dragonfly . . . . I'm sure I've left out a few.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE these.

I'm thinking I better contact "the candle lady" and make sure I'm stocked up!

Laurie, their Mimosa Mandarin is probably my favorite for the summer! I am burning their Blueberry Cheesecake right now.

My oldest daughter lives about 25 miles from where they are made in Gordon, Tx. My daughter is about 250 miles from me, but the next time I go visit I am going to do my best to make it by there!

thank u so much for that candle name, morenci, i DEF will check them out. U know what is so funny about the candles? Well, I bought a TON of tumblers this holiday with BOGO FREE coupons and was content with them until yesterday...i bought a new burner, a bunch of oils and tarts and began experimenting with them all. WOW! I came up with some great stuff on my own, if I really liked it i would just wait for everything to melt and add the oils and, of course, it gave off a much stronger throw than I was used to with the 2 wick tumblers. I think I might have to return the unused tumblers and buy a whole bunch of oil and new tarts. LOL! Candles and its paraphernalia r a wonderful thing. DEF checking out that brand and the scents u mentioned. i am lovin the feedback here, great community. think i will make a run today and if so ill see if i can upload it on the WAXPOrn site. I saw some really interesting tarts & what not and was wondering what the damage was on some of those buys! As far as training goes, I am trying to do the same w my fiance but men are soooo sloow to pick up the most overt of hints, u r lucky to have girls! lol! It sounds as tho we have similar tastes in candles. I like fresh, floral, some fruits depending, like the orange one sounds fabulous. Give me the d/l on their best scents in that class please, would greatly appreciate it. The way everyone is raving about this brand i HAVE to order one now! Thanks, I think. haha! Nautilique, and Laurie [smilie=th_yourock] but I hate to sound soooo stupid but when u mention the moreci candles and ordering the "spooled" type, what do you mean? a swirl? I just dont know what spooled refers to b/c I wanna order one of these puppies real soon! [smilie=th_Hnh5] I think I'm gonna look for their site and i wrote down all of the ones u mentioned, u and Laurie, and i am going to read the descriptions from there and maybe get one...or two...or even three. :upssmiley1: No, I wouldn't be that bad 1st time around. And u guys say that Lasting Scents is the best for tarts. Now, whats up with the Keeping Room. Whats the throw like on their stuff? Anything good in particular. See, I ALWAYS go on what others have to say. Its the best way to get what u want the first time around. If and when I follow thru today b/c I have one BOGO FREE at YC [smilie=th_create] and In gonna get some other goodies as well. BTW, how much does an oil usually go for and how long should a bottle last? [smilie=th_200911025310]

Nautilique IS Laurie! lmao

Anyway, look at the site, the "spooled" kind is just the shape of the jar (guess like a spool of thread?) Thats' the only kind my "candle lady" carries, so that's all I've ever tried (plus the other shape is more expensive)

Now to the tarts - LSC (lasting scent) is DA BOMB! Do they throw? Wow Do they!!

[smilie=th_i-m_so_happy]

As for CFTKR (keeping room), I just got my first order (see p0rn) and I haven't melted any lately, but this vendor is SOOOOOO popular with everyone, I gotta think they're gonna be awesome! I'm sure some others will chime in here.

As for oils, don't use them so no clue (don't get me started on another addiction, er um HOBBY please!)

No, im the one who is [smilie=th_lmao-1] !!! Too funny! Sounds like the spooled are alot like the tumblers, which is a great style cuz they burn evenly and cleanly. Oils...hate to say it, never thought I would be a fan but they r great!!! I combine the oils with tarts so its not as tho I need a special burner for them and at YC you get three bottles for $10, which is a special going on right now and do not know when it will end but by the time it does I plan to have a vast array added to my already 9-bottle collection. Hobby...I like that. I think we r bordering on having to start a 12 step group, oops i think CA is taken so maybe C.O.T. anonymous for candles, oils and tarts would b more appropriate, huh? I think we all know we are powerless under the influence of candles tho...how 'bout it? LOL!

As far as the Morenci, here's my recommends:

Fruity: TOP 2 are Citrus Cooler and Mimosa Mandarin

All the "oranges" are good

Tuscan Lemongrass is a good lemony one.

Pomegranite is great.

Bird of Paradise too.

Ambrosia is pretty good for coconut

Florals:

Night Jasmine is my fav, the house where my kids were born had an entire fence in the yard covered with jasmine and this candle takes me back there!

Flowering Dogwood was pretty good

and I think Honeysuckle (not sure if it was Morence or Yankee I had, love the scent tho)

Scents have come and gone since I've been burning these, those are my favs as I remember them. (I need to restock)

All time favs are Mimosa Mandarin and Tuscan Lemongrass

Hope this helps!
