  1. Good morning everyone, Trying to digest the fact that it really, truly is Monday and I need to get "work work" done... Debra, thank you for reminding me about the WalMart end of season melts...must run up there lest I miss anything... Honeybear, that un-centered pendant light over your bathroom sink would drive me right around the bend. Will the builder fix it? On a happier note, what did you get from Zeep? Candlelove, the Vanilla Pear sounds lovely...I like anything with pear... MaggieMae - I'm raiding the Christmas scents as well because the Zeep Under the Mistletoe is so beautiful. Cold again here in Ohio but there is snow predicted for today so I am happy. Have a fine day all, AmyJo
  2. Good morning everyone, Well, the bread baking is done for the weekend. I did a focaccia with new potatoes and thyme - came out pretty well, strange dough to handle - and a whole wheat loaf for toast. Fun to do and the kitchen no longer looks like some sort of flour assault has taken place. This morning I have Molten Orange (ScentSationals) going in the back bedroom and that one is wonderful but potent. We'll see how long it is before I admit defeat and move to something gentler. Lonegirl - I know what you mean - you're sick of a scent and want to switch. For what it's worth, here is my routine. If there is still good scent in the wax, I pour it out while it's hot into a silicone cupcake liner (got them on Amazon). I(carefully) put this on the windowsill and it hardens in no time. I put a little Post-It in there as to what it is, and those get stored in my wax cabinet. It helps to be OCD with all of this. Back to the hot warmer, I wipe it out right away with tissues or a paper towel and then wash it with Dawn to get the old scent out. This only takes a minute. Then, poof, ready for a new scent! If the scent is pretty much gone, then I do as Honeybear said above and just dump it into something already going in the garbage - a cat food sleeve or tin of some kind - and once it hardens, into the trash it goes. Same deal with wipe the melt saucer with paper towel and wash with Dawn. Honeybear = I'm very happy you didn't have to get all new tires. Sometimes it seems as though the cars are just lying in wait with some new surprise for us, doesn't it? Thanks all for the warnings about leaving the melters on unattended. I have done that and probably should know better. The Molten Orange is indeed taking over the house as I type this. It does smell wonderful. We shall see what DH says when he gets up. Happy Melting/Burning All, AmyJo
  3. Happy Friday everyone! Well, all the snow has melted here in southwest Ohio and it's going up to 56 F today. "We're having a heat wave..." Glad it's the end of the work week. Kitchen/office - still ScentSationals Red Hot Cinnamon, very nice and it doesn't fight with the cooking smells. Back bedroom - I scooped out some "Happiness," a soy Aromatherapy candle I found at Target. It's supposed to be a dupe for the Capri Blue Volcano which they use at Anthropologie stores, which I also have, and yes they smell quite similar. Anyway, I popped it into the melter and ahhhhh, this is one of my favorite scents. It says it's Yuzu and Lime, very sweet and exciting scent. Have a fine Friday, all. AmyJo
  4. Debra, mmmm, cinnamon rolls sound so good - now you have me thinking. DH would go miles for good cinnamon rolls. I'm happy with yesterday's white loaf. The reason I got back into baking was the Great British Bake-Off, which got me all inspired. Plus the house smells so good when bread is baking. Lonegirl, absolutely, you got a good affirmation from your friend that your candles are lovely, which definitely is a sign to buy more! This morning I am melting ScentSations Red Hot Cinnamon in the kitchen/office and still Zeep's Under the Mistletoe in the back bedroom. Have a good day all. Almost made it to Friday! AmyJo
  5. Greetings all, Honeybear - I'm glad you have hot water! And I'm tickled that you ordered the Push Up Pop clammie from Zeep - now I really hope you enjoy this scent as much as I do! MaggieMae - see what you started?! Mpfand - I just started baking bread again after a loooooong break and DH and I are really enjoying it. Also I get my frustrations out with the kneading. Glad this brought back happy memories for you. I'm kind of obsessed with it right now and want the loaf to look just right. I had to turn off the Zeep Mac Apple for awhile. It is beautiful but strong. Nose needs a break. Have a good evening all, AmyJo
  6. Good morning everyone, Continuing to enjoy the Zeep melts. Back bedroom - Under the Mistletoe (ok, Christmas scent of evergreen and berries, but it smells wonderful) Kitchen/office - Mac(intosh) Apple - very strong, very good. Had to turn the kitchen melter off for awhile - baking bread and I love that smell too - the scents have to take their turn. Have a good day all, AmyJo
  7. Honeybear - that's very exciting, to have the move accomplished! Congratulations! As you say - now you get to decorate, always a good thing. I'm really sorry about the hot water heater - is that fixed? And I hope your DH is feeling better. And a pool being put in? It all sounds fabulous. And we get to enjoy it vicariously! Hoping you get to take a long hot shower soon and relax after the long wait and stress of moving. AmyJo
  8. Good morning everyone, I'm about to try some new melts from Zeep! - they arrived yesterday beautifully packaged - and the first up will be the Push-Up Pop (fruity pebbles and creamsicle). I am having a very hard time not eating it, it smells so amazing. I actually put it near the bedside so I could smell it all night. MaggieMae - I know you like these - I'm guessing you just cut a piece off with a knife? Because they are HUGE. Debra, thanks for the insurance story. We've had this same insurance through my job for years and this is the first time anyone came to the house to take vital signs. !!! I guess they want to make sure I'm really alive, LOL. My big dog was unimpressed with her. Carry on, carry on! Otherwise we had a huge storm in the middle of the night with all sorts of crashing thunder and howling winds, which upset my big Pyrenees and so we spent time cuddling on the couch until it was over. Added several hours later - ohhhh, these Zeep melts are incredible! I am having a nosegasm (sorry, TMI). Back bedroom - Push-Up Pops (fruity pebbles and creamsicle) - this smells so good that I may have to find a way to have it centrally (scentrally, LOL) piped through the house, it's that good. Kitchen/office - Grinch Cookies - sugar cookies and peppermint candy. Divine. Happy scenting everyone, AmyJo
  9. Good morning everyone, Happy Monday to all. I had a busy weekend with cooking and baking - turned the kitchen upside down - and wasn't online much. I just caught up with all your wonderful posts. Thanks Debra and MaggieMae for not only putting up with my pet stories, but actually encouraging me - it's good to see lots of pet lovers on here. Debra, I'm sorry your cats didn't like the flea meds - my cat doesn't either and I have to sneak it onto her. She seems so betrayed afterwards, LOL. "But it's for your own good" Mpfand - I knew I had a partner in "boot-sucking mud" out there. Sure enough, all the snow has melted and the dogs are completely muddy and tracking it in ...At least I'm glad it's not subzero temperatures anymore. MaggieMae and mpfand, you both made me laugh with rearranging the stash while DH is gone - and then being "BUSTED," LOL - I do the same. I haven't been at this wax game but for about 6 months but I still seem to have accumulated a full drawer of candles and a small cabinet full of melts. When DH is out, I play with them amd bring out only one at a time. I definitely need to go on a buying ban...but wait, there's that mystery box from Zeep coming in the mail...after that one, I will pause, really I will. I haven't turned on the warmers yet today because I had an early call. Yesterday I melted Scentsations' Cucumber and Melon (YUM!) and then their Zen. I really struggled with Zen - I wanted so badly to like it but it smells a whole lot like my toothpaste and then I couldn't get that out of my head. I kept announcing, "Toothpaste!" to my husband and he finally said to change it and stop grumbling. Arkcandle - what does Fat Bottomed Girls Cupcake smell like, LOL? Great name... Michele - I'm really glad you feel better and can melt again. Also thanks a lot for the Super Tarts link!! This morning a lady from our insurance carrier is actually coming to our house to take my vital signs, LOL. This is part of the "Evidence of Insurability." Seems a bit much but OK. Has anyone else experienced this? Take care all. AmyJo
  10. Good morning everybody and Happy Day Before Friday, Still very cold here in Ohio, 8F as I'm typing this so the long underwear is still in force. MaggieMae, yes our biggest dog is (mostly) Pyrenees and he is indeed a beauty, although of course I am biased because I'm his mom. We used to have a farm and he was the best guardian of the poultry and animals, so gentle with baby creatures but fearless with any sort of predator. He fought off many a coyote and wouldn't leave his post even when it was below O degrees F and I begged him to come inside. He is vary careful with strangers but "guardedly polite." However he and I are...I would say best of buds. He was a stray found wandering in Dayton and I was lucky to know the person who was fostering him. He was one at the time and now 11.5 and a bit wobbly at times, but healthy. I have loved many animals in my time but he is something rare. Anyway! I know this is not a dog forum and he would not always pass the fine scent criterion! Michele, I hope you are feeling better and able to melt at least some teeny tiny something today to help cheer you up. MaggieMae - the Zeep melts look so adorable in their shapes! I'm eager to try them...it says something like two weeks to wait. *I can be patient, really I can* Debra, I envy you living in the Pacific NW. I've only seen pictures but I love a lush, rainy environment like that and hope to visit in a couple of years. The trees and the ocean look so different from the rest of the country. mpfand - I'm glad you enjoyed Guam and you're right - those were happy years for us as well, living on an island. I think I took it entirely for granted...things were pretty easy and yet we complained about all sorts of things. Foolish youth... Well, stay warm everyone. Looks like the warmup starts tomorrow around here and the snow will melt...then the joy of what we used to call "boot-sucking mud." I'm still melting my Mainstays Warm Apple Pie candle in the crockpot and back to YC Home Sweet Home in the warmer. I think that second one is about spent. AmyJo
  11. Michele, I'm sorry! To be so sick you can't even melt....not fun at all. I hope you feel better soon!
  12. Good morning everyone, Last evening was a blustery snow but this morning everything is calm. The fields are so lovely with their white carpet. My biggest dog, who is mostly Pyrenees, is delighted with this weather and spends long staring sessions considering the landscape. He is an interesting dog and such a good friend for many years. Debra, yes, that BH&G Plumeria scent is absolutely correct. It seems that most of their melts are pretty strong but for that flower, it's appropriate. I feel like I'm wearing a flower lei of them when that melt is going. They nailed that scent! MaggieMae, thank you for explaining Cindy Lou Who! I love mint and was intrigued by your description - so I went on the Zeep website and ordered their Mystery Melt box. *can't wait* This morning I am still melting ScentSations Red Hot Cinnamon. My husband said he loves it so I left it going all night. I haven't decided what to melt in my office yet. Edited a few hours later - OK, changed to Molten Orange (ScentSations) in the back bedroom and wow, I feel as though I'm being chased by a giant fruit throughout the house. Lovely scent but powerful. In my office, I'm melting Mainstays' Warm Apple Pie in the Crockpot. Also very nice. But both are potent. Have a good day all. Debra, where are you that it's going to be 60 F tomorrow? Even Ohio has a warmup coming. I don't want the flowers and flowering bushes to get all confused... AmyJo
  13. Mpfand - Guam! I have always wanted to go there. So maybe you have also experienced what we did on Hawaii - Rock Fever - where you feel a bit isolated and contained and just want to go home. I know, it seems wrong to be complaining when you are supposedly in "paradise." But I missed the four seasons - the flowers in Hawaii were amazing year round, but there was no leaf change and no snow. I think I was also too young to fully appreciate what we had, living there - but I must say that I missed days like today when there is lots of snow on the ground and all the plants get to take a long winter's nap. Your Amish Strudel is sounding really good. I bake a lot but haven't done anything apple recently. Hmmmmmm..... I switched one of the melts over to Red Hot Cinnamon (ScentSational) and oooh I like that one. MaggieMae - what does Cindy Lou Who smell like, LOL? These names crack me up.
  14. Hello everyone, More snow here in Ohio so you know I am happy. I'm melting BH&G Plumeria Blossoms which is lovely. When we were MUCH younger, my husband was in the Navy and we were fortunate enough to live in Hawaii for awhile. I can say that this plumeria scent is spot on. I have missed that beautiful smell. Funny how the scent memory comes back immediately after almost 38 years. Yesterday I "had" to pop into Walmart while my laundry was washing at the Laundromat and there was a huge display of B&HG and Scentsationals melts. They are $2 each (normal price, I believe) but there they were, just begging to jump into my shopping cart! What was I to do? So I got five of them - Cucumber Melon, Zen, Red Hot Cinnamon, Molten Orange, and Vanilla Bean. *so many scents, so little time* Debra, I would have been totally thrown off track by your blue mystery melt - lemon pound cake, no way. It sounds like fun to have a mystery melt. Have a good day everybody and stay warm. AmyJo
  15. Lonegirl, welcome back and I'm so sorry to hear about your husband passing. 40 is so young and my heart goes out to you raising three boys on your own. I don't know all of those abbreviations either so I'm glad you asked the question. I hope you have family nearby who can help you sometimes. Sending you a big hug. AmyJo
  16. Happy Monday dear everyone, We have lovely snow here in Ohio but not that much, only about 2 inches total. Nonetheless I love winter when there is some snow to make it beautiful. NMhoneybear, I agree with you, I ended up stopping that YC Sugar and Spice before it melted for long. It was too burnt-buttery-smelling or something. I wanted to like it, I tried, but no. Michele, what are Super Tarts? That sounds inviting. *inquiring minds want to know* I hope your husband got home ok. Debra99 - LOL on your sweet-smelling cat! I love it. I'm not sure if our pets smell like all of these melts going on but I wouldn't be surprised. We have five dogs and one cat so I do hope they smell good. I'm glad your vet enjoyed your good scents. MaggieMae, the buttermint scent sounds lovely. Anything mint gets my vote. As for the news and chemical fire - I hadn't heard that either. I'm avoiding anything more than a quick scan of the headlines because I just get upset. I'm trying to keep my little corner of the world peaceful and sweet-smelling. Forgot to say what I'm sniffing today. Back bedroom, my beloved B&BW Limoncello melt. Our bedroom, diffuser with Lavender essential oil. My office, melting a B&BW candle in the warmer - Mango Coconut Cooler, very nice, not overpowering, makes me want to head to a beach even though I am enjoying a fresh snow from last night. A good day to everyone and drive safely if you have winter weather. AmyJo
  17. Hi everyone, Honeybear, isn't that something, when suddenly the house gets overwhelmed with something? I go from loving a scent to "get that out of here" in short order. Your Cookie scent stuck in my mind so I've started melting YC Sugar and Spice, which is also kind of strong. I want to thank this site for the suggestion of using the little silicone cupcake liners to capture the hot melt when we want to switch to a new scent. To me, this is cleaner/easier than putting the dish in the freezer. Now I have all these cute little cupcake melts just waiting to be re-used. The temperature has dropped 25 degrees this morning so I wish it would get on with the snow and make it all worthwhile. Stay safe and warm! AmyJo
  18. Hello dear everyone, A very Happy Friday to you! MaggieMae, yes I try to keep the house smelling nice. The cat does her best to undo my good intentions but she is sweet, so she may stay. I also dread sensitizing myself, DH, or the dogs and cat to perfumes, causing us allergies, because I do love smelling all these lovely things. The house is small so I can imagine overdosing all of us. I notice my biggest, dearest dog will position himself far away from the scent, which is why I don't melt or burn in the living room. *moderation is a terrible thing* Anyway, I have turned off the back bedroom melter because that B&BW Limoncello is so wonderful that I totally overdid it and overwhelmed the whole house with lemon. Today in the candle warmer in my office (crockpot) is B&BW Bartlett Pear. Very gentle scent. I will give the house a breather today otherwise. We are supposed to have rain/sleet/snow here in Ohio today into tonight and I have to keep the windows buttoned up. Michele, I hope your DH has safe travels in Ohio with this storm. Amy
  19. Hello all! mfpand - I melted that tart until I couldn't smell anything anymore. Definitely need to restock! Vanilla Oak sounds lovely. nmhoneybear - I need to try that pumpkin spice cookie one! Today I have these going: Home office - YC Lavender medium candle melting in the Little Dipper Crockpot, smells lovely and fills up the living room as well. Back bedroom - melting Limoncello cube from B&BW. This one is just divine - crisp and a good strong authentic lemon scent. I feel like I've put my whole head inside a fresh lemon. And this is a good thing. Bathroom - burning a YC votive, Line Dried Cotton. So far this one seems weak. It's a pretty pink color, but I hope the scent builds soon. Edited - later - that scent never did anything. Maybe it was an old votive, but gee. *tapping foot impatiently* Have a scentful afternoon, AmyJo
  20. Good morning everybody, hope all are well. Today I am melting a YC tart called Home Sweet Home and I must say, this smells wonderful. Have a great Wednesday!
  21. Dabbadoey, I'm just checking their website to see the list of scents. *the possibilities are endless* I forgot to mention what I'm doing today: Home office - melting a two-wick BH&G Mandarin Orange in a small crockpot Back bedroom - melting a Mainstays Sweet Apple tiny candle in the wax warmer (I melted the candle in the crockpot and dipped out some of the liquid into the wax warmer). House is small, trying to avoid soot! Have fun everyone
  22. Thanks MaggieMae and debra99 for your replies - glad to hear there's agreement on the BH&G - great strong scent and good to hear they last a long time. Our house is small so just a short melting time is enough for the morning. *but I love it* mpfand - I like the sound of that Peppermint Marshmallow from B&BW, will have to check that out. I love anything mint and the marshmallow addition sounds interesting. Also, I am laughing about some of the names of these scents. Because I am a newbie I'm amazed that some of the titles are so long. Candlelove, you mentioned Rose Jam Cotton Candy Tea and Cakes Marshmallow. Is that really just one scent?? Their labels must be huge, LOL! Anyway thanks everybody for the replies, this is a very friendly board and very welcoming to a newcomer. Enjoy your scents!!
  23. Dear mpfand, thanks for the reply! Also glad you are feeling better. So it's not just me - wow, strong melt. I had to turn it off - much as I love that scent, it was knocking me out of the house.
  24. Hello dear everyone, I hope you are not fighting stomach bugs, the flu, or huge snowbanks. Here in Ohio we have icy roads this morning and to combat that, I am melting BH&G Line Dried Linen. It smells great but wow, very strong from such a small little cube. I have it in the back bedroom of our ranch house and it has filled up the whole house. Do you folks think BH&G in general have strong melt scents?
  25. Happy New Year! Right now I'm melting Warm Apple Pie from YC. Medium candle in the Crock Pot.
