Emerald Fir – Colonial Candle

Emerald Fir Colonial Candle ReviewEmerald Fir

By Christina Rylan

Brand: Colonial Candle

Type: 14.5oz 3 wick candle

Fragrance: Emerald Fir

Scent Strength: Medium

First impression of Emerald Fir:

Emerald Fir from Colonial Candle sounded like my kind of Christmas scent. The candle itself reminded me of Bath & Body Works 3 wick candles and I must say, I am loving that Colonial is branching out into different style candles aside from their heavy oval jars. I’m even liking the creamier wax these new jars have. It’s not the hard mottled wax I’m used to seeing with this brand.

Emerald Fir was simple in design. The vessel was a sparkly silver and the label was clear with a sliver font with three little green Fir trees off to the side. The trees were the only color on the label and I thought presentation was very nicely done. The scent itself… Christmas tree all the way. I wasn’t sure how authentic it was but my pine expert (my husband) will tell me as soon as he smells it. In the meantime, here is the scent description for Emerald Fir I pulled from Colonial’s website:

Transform your home into an enchanted forest of earthly fragrance that fills the atmosphere with accents of pine needles and balsam sap with Emerald Fir Scented Candle released for 2018 Winter Season. This candle’s has the aroma of rich amber meets dark moss and black birch giving new depth to a festive environment.

T: pine needles, rosemary, tangerine
M: balsam sap, cedar leaf, sage clary
D: dark moss, rich amber, black birch

Mmm! Sounds pretty perfect to me. I’ve been burning so many peppermint and bakery scents lately, I was really looking forward to an actual Christmas Tree scent. We have a fake tree and this candle will be perfect to bring in that fresh balsam scent I so long for during the holidays.

Putting my nose in the wax, all I could smell was pine and balsam the most and that suited me just fine. The true test however was asking my Pine/Christmas tree expert (my hubby) what he thought. The moment he smelled the wax, his face lit right up and said it smelled very authentic and one of the better Christmas tree scents he’s smelled this year.

YAY!! We have a winner!! Now let’s see how it burns.

I lit my Emerald Fir candle in my master bedroom and that’s where it stayed till the wicks finally pooped out. My husband and I both loved this candle. After it was burning a good day or so, my hubby said the aroma wafting through our bedroom smelled more like a fir tree than pine. He said it had sweet notes to it which is more common with fir trees. This scent got a full two thumbs up from him. As far as all the other notes listed in the scent description – I didn’t smell any of it. To my nose, Emerald Fir simply smelled like a Christmas tree and it was pretty darn good just as it was.

Strength – I would rate Emerald Fir an 8 out of 10 in a really large room. 10 in medium to smaller rooms.

How did my Emerald Fir candle burn?

Sadly, this candle had some issues. The first half of the candle burned perfectly. No issues. About 3/4ths down, the wicks tapered down to tiny little nubbins causing the candle to burn inconsistently. Two wicks ended up fizzling out all-together and from then on, the candle wouldn’t stay lit. Major bummer! ☹

Closing to my review:

Emerald Fir from Colonial was a great Christmas tree scent and one I do recommend. Bonus, I’m pretty sure it’s on mega sale right now so if you want to give it a try, now is the time. Other than the wick issues I had, I was overall happy with this candle. Hopefully if you give it a try, your candle burns better.

I reviewed another Colonial candle if you want to check it out – Snowday. That one didn’t turn out as well so I was pretty happy Emerald Fir turned the tide.

Christmas is a few days away! Merry Christmas candle lovers!!
