What Did My Driftwood Sage Candle Smell Like?
I get so annoyed when I purchase a candle and a few weeks later, it’s not listed on the company’s website anymore. Such was the case with Illume’s Driftwood Sage. I’m reviewing it anyway since I purchased the candle and it looks like you can still purchase it through various online outlets and department stores and who knows… maybe it will make a comeback on their website. One can hope because I really liked it.

This natural soy candle features earthly blue sage and wild lavender blended with heliotrope, eucalyptus and driftwood.
I’ve always been a fan of Illume fragrances. Many have an exotic quality to them that remind me of Pier 1 fragrances. Driftwood Sage smelled amazing! I detected herbal notes for sure but it also had a soft perfume quality to it too giving it a touch of elegance. A signature trait with Illume. I wasn’t smelling lavender and I have no idea what heliotrope smells like but hoping both come to life once the candle is burning. The overall scent smelled lovely and complex with a fresh component that put a smile on my face. I couldn’t wait to light this candle.
I decided to start small and lit this candle in a small bathroom to start out. I was after maximum scent throw and I wanted it close by so I could really enjoy the fragrance. Once lit, it took a while for the aroma to start filling the space in the room, maybe 30 minutes or so. The aroma was perfect and remained the same… a soft perfume type scent with herbal notes to it. Very nice and calming. The only down side… this candle was very lightly scented. So light, I could really only smell the fragrance when the door was closed or my nose was right up to the candle.
Strength – on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this candle a 4 in a small room. I wouldn’t even try to burn it in anything larger unless you’re strictly after candlelight ambiance.
How Did My Candle Burn?
This candle struggled a bit to reach a full melt pool with each lighting so it did leave a layer of wax along the glass wall at the end. Not a huge deal but one I wanted to point out. Other than that, clean burn, no soot.
Closing To My Driftwood Sage Candle Review:
I enjoyed this fragrance, I just wish the candle would have given a bit of a stronger aroma. It was pretty lightly scented. The fragrance itself… lovely. It reminded me of a soft perfume with fresh herbal notes. Very relaxing type fragrance.
