Introduction to my CT River Candle review:

Along the banks of the Connecticut River in sleepy, historic Haddam, Connecticut there is a candle maker who finds endless inspiration from the natural beauty surrounding them.  When I visited CT River Candle’s website, I couldn’t help but get caught up in the enthusiasm for the Connecticut River and all of its bounty.   I’ve never been to this area of the country but after reading some of the featured resources on CT River Candle’s site, I felt a certain connection in that area as if I had lived there all my life.

The website is filled with touches of the river’s influence, from the color palate of the site, to the local nature conservancy links, to theCT River candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle lovers candles themselves all decked out in beautiful Connecticut River photographs.

The CT River Candle website was soothing and well planned out.  It was easy to navigate, and interesting to browse through.  There is nothing boring about this site.  There is a lot of helpful information tucked into every page.  The pictures are beautiful, the text is interesting to read, and the scent list is well thought out.  Each scent listed has a description and a photo… I really liked this… it gave me a good clear impression of what to expect with each fragrance.

Offered on CT River Candle’s website are natural soy jar candles, melts, tart warmers, candle burning accessories, and a very cute river dog plush air freshener modeled after their very own yellow lab.

What do my candles from CT River Candles look like?

For this review I sampled two different candle styles offered by CT River CandlesCT River Candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle lovers.  The deep red Apple Maple Bourbon, and the creamy white Vanilla Hazelnut candles were part of the River Inspired collection.  These were both 14.5 ounce mason jar candles with black tin twist-on lids.  Each of these jars had a CT River Candles label with a different photographic image of the Connecticut River which inspired it.  The labels were quite pretty, and even though they could have been removed with a little CT River Spa candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loverswork, I think they added to the beauty of the jars so I left them just how they were.

The natural white Juniper Breeze candle was from CT River’s Spa Soy line.  It was a nine ounce tumbler with a clear, elegant label.  The Label had the CT River Spa Candles title and logo along with the scent name printed in pretty black scroll.  The tumbler candle was lovely and again, I had no urge to remove the smart looking label.  This tumbler had a fitted plastic cover with a hole on top for sniffing.  It wasn’t a heavy lid like on the River Inspired collection, but it did hold the scent in and protected the candle until I was ready to burn it.

How did my candles from CT River Candles smell?

Apple Maple Bourbon

CT River describes Apple Maple Bourbon this way:

“The aromas of fresh Macintosh apples flavored with a good Kentucky bourbon”

CT River Candle review, Apple Maple Bourbon scented candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversThis was a nice, full scent.  The apple was the most prominent and the maple bourbon sweetened it up without any of the usual baking spices that go along with many apple scents.  It was a refreshing change… one I really liked.  I got a decent throw from the candle and an even better throw from the melts.  Both the melts and candle were well scented.

I danced this candle around the house, burning it in several different spots.  Wherever I placed this jar, the room smelled like sweet maple apples within a few minutes.   For some reason…unlike any other time of year… I totally get into apple scents in the fall when school begins.

This scent eased my whole family out of our Summer schedule and into the new school year.   I almost always have a reason for choosing this scent or that, depending on the season, weather, occasion, or mood.  I wonder if my brood realizes how much thought I put into scenting our home… Hmm… like laundry, I suppose it’s only really noticeable when it’s not done.

Vanilla Hazelnut scented candle review, CT River Candles, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversVanilla Hazelnut

Here is the description for Vanilla Hazelnut:

“Toasted hazelnuts and sweet vanilla … Definitely not the typical vanilla”

You must know that the claim of this not being the typical vanilla is precisely why I had to try this scent.  True to its description, this scent was not typical.  It was extra yummy smelling.

I had been burning the candle in my bathroom and enjoying it for quite a while.  On one particular morning, I lit the jar candle in my main area, and added two cubes from the clamshell melt… it was wonderful!  I walked into my living room and was met by the most Vanilla Hazelnut scented candle review, CT River candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversintriguing scent.  The hazelnut in this vanilla gave it a subtle nuttiness, or almost baked scent, but it wasn’t obvious.  It wasn’t like I walked in and automatically thought Hazelnuts… not at all.  This scent is all about the rich vanilla with an added layer of depth that made me want to keep sniffing.  I kept thinking one simple thing… it smells good in here… really good.

I was very pleased with this candle and the melts.   The scent quality was fantastic and the candle burned like a dream come true.

Juniper Breeze

Here is how CT River Candles describes this scent:

“Escape and Relax with this refreshing scent of jasmine, green apple, forest greens and light woodsy musk”

Juniper Breeze scented candle review, CT River candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversWhen I read Juniper in the name, all I thought of was a simple pine scent.  I read the other notes in the scent description, but still was only focused on the Juniper part.  I like simple pine scents so I didn’t give it much more thought.

Boy, was I in for a pleasant surprise.  Oh my… this was a fantastic scent!   Juniper Breeze is so far beyond the expectation of a
simple pine that it’s almost laughable to even call it Juniper.  This is a wonderfully fresh, beautiful scent without the overload of ozone that so often dominates a fresh scent. Maybe it’s the Jasmine that I like so much, or the very light musk.  I’m not sure why I like this so much but I sure know that I do.  I smelled some of the forest greens that was more of a woody scent than a grassy type.  I didn’t smell green apple, distinctly, but perhaps that’s what gave this scent an unexpected hint of sweetness.

All in all it was an outstanding fragrance, and bonus, the candle burned very well and had a wallop of a good throw.  The candle did leave a cloudy soy wax film all around the glass, but that was a minor point considering how much I enjoyed this scent and how much fragrance this nine ounce tumbler put out.

Candle flameHow did my candles burn?

These were some great burning candles.  The wick flame stayed strong throughout each burn with all three jars.  The wick would develop a large flame and a good sized carbon ball if left unchecked, but as advised, keeping the wick trimmed is the easiest way to keep that flame down to the right size.  All three of these jars got a good melt pool rather quickly and the jar sides were clear of most residue.  I found some residue left in the tumbler but it was easily wiped off.

Closing to my CT River candle review…

I thoroughly enjoyed my entire experience with CT River Candles from the ordering process and customer service, to the fabulous scents and great burning candles.

If I had to choose a favorite of CT River candle review, Candlefind.com, the site for candle loversthe scents I tried, I would grudgingly give it up for that wonderful Juniper Breeze, but I wouldn’t want to choose just one of the three.  I liked all of the scents I tried here, and would most definitely order again.  When I get three out of three great scents, I feel all the more confident about trying some other scents from their list.  After all, I did have my eye on Clean Cotton, Gingerbread House… Snowy Pine…. Sage & Pomegranate….. Oooh.  I can’t look anymore.  It’s just too tempting.

Happy candle burning!

~ Julia
