First impression of my Crème Brulee candle:
Full disclosure – Crème Brulee in wax has never hit the mark for me. When I purchase bakery scents, I can’t help comparing them to the real McCoy and Crème Brulee isn’t an easy one to duplicate. I know because I’ve tried a ton from a plethora of candle companies.
When I think of Crème Brulee, I imagine a creamy and light vanilla custard with that burnt caramel sugar layer on top – the burnt sugar being an essential element to this scent. The Crème Brulee scents I’ve tried in the past have mostly been twangy vanilla’s with zero burnt sugar. So it was with great trepidation I decided to give Madison Valley’s version a try, and guess what? I was pleasantly surprised. When I received my candle and smelled the wax, I was intrigued… so intrigued, I kept smelling it and ended up emailing Madison Valley to ask more question about this scent. Turns out, it’s a custom blend. Key word here… blended! This wasn’t a singular oil purchased and poured into wax. This was a blend of several different fragrances to achieve the perfect result and I think they did a pretty good job. With my nose literally in the wax, I smelled a rich and creamy vanilla (no twang) with a sugary caramel glaze. YES!! I have to state, the vanilla smelled amazing and reminded me of a sweet vanilla with lots of powdered sugar. The caramel was not your average caramel either. It was sweeter and distinctive and sort of had light butterscotch notes to it as well. Butterscotch? For a while there, I thought I was losing my mind. When I emailed Madison Valley to inquire further about the caramel, and Sean, owner of Madison Valley said I wasn’t smelling an ordinary caramel, I was smelling caramelized sugar which he adds a tiny percentage of to achieve that burn sugar element. YAAAS!!!
Here is the scent description for Crème Brulee:
A soft vanilla custard with a hint of caramelized sugar makes this is warm and delicious scent.
Perfect description! Can you tell how happy I am so far? Now let’s see how my Crème Brulee candle performs.
I could probably get away with a large room to burn this candle in but decided on a medium size room instead. I wanted maximum scent throw and I knew a small room would do the job. Once the wicks were lit, it took a good 20 minutes to reach a full melt pool and the aroma…. ooooh my… YUM!! A rich and creamy vanilla with caramelized sugar filled my guest bedroom with aroma. Caramel Sugar aside, this is seriously one of the best vanilla scents I’ve ever smelled. It was sweet and rich and again, it had this powdered sugar element to it I couldn’t get enough of. Then comes the sweet caramel which blended perfectly with the vanilla. Seriously candle lovers… I positively loved this scent! Did it smell like crème brulee? Yes and no. Yes, it smelled like vanilla and caramelized sugar which is crème brulee but truly, this scent is so much more. To my nose and senses, it’s the perfect bakery vanilla! Literally perfect. Sweet and creamy vanilla with mounds of powdered sugar with teeny hints of caramel. I wanted to eat this candle!
Strength – I would rate this candle a 7 in a really large room. 10 in a medium to smaller rooms.
How did my Crème Brulee candle burn?
This candle burned perfect. Zero wick issues. Clean burning from beginning to end.
Closing to my review:
I absolutely loved Crème Brulee from Madison Valley and plan on purchasing this one again… and again… and again! Vanilla lovers… this one’s a keeper. It’s going on my list of must haves.
