Candlefind Says

A creamy coconut fragrance with a hint of sweetness and toasted goodness.

Pros

  • Beautiful candle vessel
  • Loud, crackling wood wick

Cons

  • Smokiness at start of burn

If you’re wanting a taste of the tropical this summer, consider lighting up a coconut shell candle at home. These candles have the wax poured right into real halved coconut shells. Sweet! The company Jungle Culture offers this type of candle in their line up, so we were super eager to give it a try. Jungle Culture is an eco-friendly company that believes in zero waste. They offer an array of products, such as resuable cutlery and straws, artisan natural soaps, and these coconut shell candles.

Packaging/Presentation

Jungle Culture Coconut Shell Candle

The coconut shell candle from Jungle Culture is ready for gift giving. It was packaged in a beautiful gift box and then delicately wrapped in custom tissue paper. The coconut bowl itself was amazing and you could tell it was a real, reclaimed coconut shell. The wax was shiny and smooth and there was a single, large wood wick in the center. The candle even came with its own burlap gift bag!

There were no markings on the coconut shell itself. I loved reading more about the origin of these shells – they are reclaimed from the Bên Tre region in Southern Vietnam, an area reportedly known for the high quality coconuts. Once the coconuts are harvested, the shells are then cleaned, hard carved, and prepped to create these soy candles.

Authenticity

I absolutely smelled the scent of creamy coconut when I first opened the box. There was just a little bit of sweetness to the scent. The website describes this scent as Toasted Coconut:

Our toasted coconut scented candle is divinely decadent, subtle and creamy, providing a relaxing and soothing aroma that fills the room with tranquility and will make you reminisce about your last trip to the beach!

Jungle Culture

Once lit, this candle gave off the subtle scent of creamy coconut with just that hint of sweetness still. I wasn’t getting any toasted elements, but it was delicious nonetheless. The coconut scent was true, tropical, and tasty!

Scent Strength & Scent Throw

I used my coconut shell candle first in a large bedroom and think the scent got lost in that space. I then moved it to a smaller bedroom and was much more pleased with those results. The fragrance itself was soft and inviting, and it was enough to travel in that small-ish bedroom without a problem.

Burn Performance

This candle had a wood wick, which I do love especially in the cooler months. When the wick was first lit, it did give off a pretty big flame that danced and gave off some black wisps of smoke. This died down as my candle continued to burn and I got an even wax melt pool. The crackling from this wood wick was loud and clear. It was very relaxing to me, but just be aware of that if you prefer the more quiet wood wicks. This candle burned evenly without any wasted wax on the sides.

Conclusion

Overall, I am very impressed with my coconut shell candle from Jungle Culture. It gave off an authentic fragrance and the wood wick gave the best. crackle. ever. The fragrance is more subtle, so if you’re wanting to scent up a larger space, I would recommend getting two or three. I could have done without the initially smokiness, but I will say that righted itself after getting that full wax melt pool.

I really can’t say enough about this company and their mission. The company’s headquarters are in the UK, but they do ship worldwide.
