Introduction to my Candles by Claire review…
Candles by Claire is a hidden treasure and after trying these candles, I can’t believe I hadn’t tried them before. I’m trying quite a few scents and have only burned 3 so far but the 3 I’ve tried were strong and very fragrant. Candles from Candles by Claire are 100% soy wax available in 5 candles sizes in over 100 scents. They also do customs scents upon request so if you wanted a unique fragrance not on their menu, they can probably make it for you. How cool is that?!
One feature I learned about the wax from this company is that even when melted with the flame still going, it’s cool to the touch (the wax that is). I tested this myself and it’s true. Also, the wax on my finger was more oil than wax and it rubbed right into my skin like lotion. Claire, owner of Candles by Claire said that’s because the wax she uses is pure food quality soy. I had never tried that with other soy brands but I’m going to just to see if it’s true with all soy candles or unique to this company. We’ll see.
*Note* Carolyn later told me after I wrote this paragraph that rubbing candle oil into your skin has been controversial for some time because a lot of wax from other companies could be very hot unlike this brand. Please take that into account before sticking your fingers in hot oil, I’m just sharing what I learned from Claire, owner of Candles by Claire.
What did my candles from Candles by Claire look like?
My 8oz jelly jars are pretty standard with silver lids and a big Candles by Claire label on the face of the jar. Gardenia is an off white color, Rose Dew Drops is red & Love Spell is light purple in color.
How did my candles from Candles by Claire smell?
Gardenia:
I can safely say Gardenia is not my favorite. I am not a floral fan, especially a strong “in your face” floral scents like Gardenia. I’ve decided though, that I need to start burning more floral scents because Candlefind definitely needs more reviews of them and it’s not fair to you floral lovers out there. So, I promise, I’m going to try and broaden my floral horizons just for you.
I decided to burn this candle in my bathroom which is really a big room (secretly thinking the farther it was from where I physically was, the less chance I would have of smelling it) WRONG! I lit my candle at 6pm in the evening. 10 minutes later, I could smell the fragrance all the way in my great-room. Can you say strong scent throw?! Yep and not bad for a little 8 ounce jelly jar.
I’m not a Gardenia expert so I can’t tell you if it smelled just like one but I can say that it smelled just like blooming flowers throughout the entire upper level of my house. And surprisingly, when I would go in my bathroom, the scent didn’t floor me. I was actually able to handle it. I thought my eyes would be watering and my lungs gasping for breath but it wasn’t like that at all. The scent was definitely strong but not so bad that I couldn’t take it. The scent description for this fragrance from Candles by Claire is:
“Wonderful scent throw! Aroma of fresh gardenia!”
Yes, definitely a wonderful scent throw and the fragrance was fresh and bright. My whole upstairs smelled like flowers and the biggest surprise, my husband didn’t say a word. That tells me the scent didn’t bother him because he always tells me when he doesn’t like a candle I’m burning. You can take that as a compliment Candles by Claire.
Rose Dew Drops:
Believe it or not, this candle didn’t bother me. I’m not saying I’m in love or anything, I’m just saying it was “doable” as far as a red rose scent goes. If you read my review on Gold Canyon Candles Fresh Cut Roses, you know I’m not a Rose fan. Not even close, but, I’m trying to review more Valentine’s scents and this definitely falls in that category.
I was dreading burning this candle. When I opened the lid and smelled it, I immediately noticed it was definitely rose but not as strong and potent. Something else was in there softening the fragrance. I’m guessing the dew drops. Whatever it was, it worked to my advantage because I didn’t mind this fragrance at all.
My candle was small, 4oz to be exact so maybe that had something to do with it. Still, for a 4oz candle, it fragranced a large area with ease. I was impressed with how well these little candles throw.
Floral lovers, I’m pretty sure you’ll like this candle and if you plan on ordering from this company, definitely try it if you like the soft scent of red roses.
Love Spell:
This is a Victoria Secret’s type fragrance and the same scent I reviewed from Gold Canyon in the fragrance Love Struck. The scent description from Candles by Claire is:
“Just like Victoria’s Secret-Blend Mandarin orange, bergamot & tangerine with hints of peach, strawberry & raspberry on a hint of white musk.”
This really is a beautiful scent and one I highly recommend for Valentine’s Day. For any day really. It’s one of those soft and flowing fragrances that everyone likes, floral and fruit lovers alike. The scent throw on this candle was pretty strong and fragranced my bedroom, bathroom and filtered into my great-room. These little candles do pack a lot of scent.
How did my candles burn?
I didn’t burn my candles completely to the bottom but they are burning clean so far. No soot or smoke.
Closing to my Candles by Claire review:
I like this company and I do recommend them, especially if you love or prefer soy brands. Most of the candles sent to me were 8 ounce jelly jars. I usually don’t buy that size because my rooms are big and the scent seems to get lost. Surprisingly, these candles held their own and fragranced my bedroom with ease, even the little 4oz candle in Rose Dew Drops. I’m impressed. I don’t know if burning floral fragrances had anything to do with it since I’e found florals to be stronger but, I’ll find out when I burn more candles from this company.
Happy candle burning!
~ Christina
