Rainbow Shake Yankee Candle Review
By Christina Rylan
Brand: Yankee Candle
Type: 22oz large candle
Fragrance: Rainbow Shake
Scent Strength: Medium
First impression of Rainbow Shake:
The second I saw Rainbow Shake on Yankee’s website, I wanted it. I loved the name. I also liked the label which showed a water colored illustration of lots of colorful lollipops sticking out of what looked like a strawberry shake. Now that totally sounds like my kind of scent! A fun candied/berry scent that is probably 7000 calories if you actually consumed it!
Here is the scent description for Rainbow Shake:
A sophisticated sugar rush—juicy, sparkling fruits blended with sweet vanilla, finished with whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles, and berry drizzle.
A sugar rush indeed. Sophisticated? Not really. The moment I popped off the lid to smell the wax, a sugary berry scent wafted all around my nose. It was a candy scent for sure and wasn’t too tart, nor too sweet which I attribute to the vanilla and whipped cream. Honestly, this scent reminded me of taffy, or what I think taffy smells like anyway. I questioned that so decided to ask my husband prior to lighting the wick. He smelled the wax and said it smelled fruity and reminded him of grapefruit. GRAPEFRUIT? I thoroughly regret asking him now. I don’t get grapefruit at all when I smell this candle.
I’m sticking with my assessment… taffy. Now let’s light my candle.
Yankee candles are generally lightly scented for me so Rainbow Shake went into my smallest room. Once the wick was lit, it took a good 10 hours to reach a full melt pool but the aroma was present long before that and oh my goodness did this fragrance surprise me. First I’m happy to report, the strength was wonderful and strong! This candle was filling my powder room with fragrance plus the aroma was moving into my great room as well. This candle could easily fragrance a medium size if not a large room with ease. That is unusual for a Yankee candle so I am beyond happy. Second… I LOVED this scent!! My entire bathroom and living room smelled like a berry candy aroma. It was sweet with a good amount of tartness. These are the notes in the scent description I noticed the most – sparkling fruits along with vanilla and berry drizzle. Taffy all the way.
Strength – I would rate Rainbow Shake a 10 out of 10 in a small room. 7 in a medium and maybe a 5/6 in a large room. Not bad for a Yankee candle. Not bad at all!
How did my Rainbow Shake candle burn?
This candle burned as expected. Super, super, super slow, I had to occasionally trim the wick and it did burn even from beginning to end. The key is to let the candle burn long enough to reach a full melt pool. If you don’t, un-melted wax will remain along the glass wall.
Closing to my review:
I know a lot of our readers dislike Yankee candles and every time I do a review of one, I get emails and messages asking why I even bother. Well, I do because Yankee is still the #1 candle company and, they do have some great scents. Rainbow Shake happens to be one of those diamonds in the ruff. With that said, I thoroughly enjoyed this candle and would absolutely buy it again in a heartbeat. It was a fun fragrance and I was beyond happy with the strength. I’m so used to Yankee candles burning lightly, so when I run across one that actually gives a decent scent throw, I’m ecstatic. Lol.
Happy candle hunting!
