First Impression of Blueberry Muffin:
I’m just about finished reviewing all the fragrances from Harry & David and I’m a little sad it’s coming to an end. I’ve really enjoyed all these candles and I guess I‘ll just have to purchase them for sheer enjoyment now. If you haven’t tried this brand yet… they’re definitely worth checking out. I purchased mine at my Safeway grocery store so searching locally is your best bet. Doing a quick internet search led me to Safeway and Kroger are the two stores that carry this brand as well as Amazon online although they’re much more expensive purchasing them through Amazon.
Harry & David candles are very attractive. The square glass vessels are made of thick glass, the lid is a light metal and copper color with Harry & David embossed in the center. The label on one side of the candle is clear with a picture of blueberry muffins in the center with the Harry & David logo up top. The wax color was a beautiful royal blue and my candle had 2 wicks. See picture above for visual reference.
How did my Blueberry Muffin candle smell?
I couldn’t find a scent description for this fragrance but none was really needed. They’re just nice to reference, even with scents that are obvious like this one. I can’t tell you how many timed I’ve reviewed a candle that seemed simple on the surface but wasn’t once you burned it.
First sniff, this candle smelled like a classic blueberry muffin, very warm and yummy. I liked it right off the bat. What I found the most striking with this candle… the color of the wax. It was a gorgeous royal blue that I know will glow beautifully once lit. I don’t know which I was looking forward to more… the ambiance or the fragrance. Maybe a bit of both.
Time to light my candle!
I lit my candle in a large bedroom and would say it took a good 30 minutes or more to begin noticing the scent. When I finally did, it was very light. So light… I really could only smell it when I was near the candle so I ended up moving it to a smaller bathroom where it performed much better. The scent smelled exactly as it did cold… a warm blueberry muffin scent. The perfect amount of warm cake/bread with hints of sweet blueberries. Very nice… I just wish the scent would have been stronger.
Strength – on a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this candle a 3 in a large room. 5/6 in a medium room and 8+ in a small room. This candle (to me) was definitely more suited to a really small room for maximum scent throw.
This candle struggled a bit to reach a full melt pool with each lighting so it did tunnel a bit. The wicks had a hard time staying lit so I think that was the biggest problem with performance and scent throw. I might purchase this candle again to see if a new one does any better. I’ve never had issues with prior candles before so I’m willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.
Closing to my review:
Even though Blueberry Muffin was lightly scented, I think I will purchase one again down the road to retest. I do like the Harry & David brand and am hoping I may have purchased a dud candle. You never know. The scent itself was pretty authentic… a sweet and warm blueberry muffin. Yum!!
Happy candle hunting!
