Introduction to my review:
Goose Creek Candle Company is a family-owned business based in Kentucky which had its start decades earlier with one man’s dream of being an entrepreneur. As the years passed, family members adopted this dream and grew the company until it began as the Goose Creek Candle Company in 1998. Goose Creek offers a multitude of candle products such as classic apothecary jars, tumbler style jars to more rustic American Heirloom and Folk Art candles. And last but not least… their pumpkin candle offerings which come in both large jars and centerpiece styles which is what I’ll be reviewing today.
I truly enjoy navigating this site. They list different categories on the left hand side and have many pictures of their products for visual reference. Because they offer so many different kinds of items, the site is fun to explore and it’s hard to not buy something. Their story–as well as their candles–is truly a part of Americana from the country’s heartland. It’s a Horatio-Alger type reminder that we can all pursue our dreams and maybe even be successful!
What did my candle look like?
My candle is an oblong, pumpkin-inspired transparent jar. The outside has the pattern of a pumpkin with its repeating “panels” and indents, though it’s not squat and round like a pumpkin. Instead, the jar looks like a pumpkin stretched up. The top is a black lid with a “stem” in the middle… the lid is easy to pull off and a nice touch. The wax itself is dark rust orange… a perfect color for this bakery type pumpkin scent. Two well-placed wicks are obvious when the top is removed.
I love the pumpkin shape, the lid, and the color, all of which truly help to add to the theme and also make these great gifts.
How did my candle smell?
“This sweet and spicy treat folds cinnamon, shaved nutmeg, fresh ginger and cake batter into a delicious pumpkin muffin. The finishing touch is brown sugar, maple icing and vanilla.”
This pumpkin-bakery scent has a huge complement of bakery… as in, I found it to be much more of a bakery than a fruity type scent. Dry whiff was heavenly! I removed the lid and was immediately treated to a dense, muffin-and-cake with a hint of pumpkin scent which wafted up without need to actively smell it.
I know we talk about wanting to take a bite out of candles that smell good enough to eat; in this case, this was especially true. Let me elaborate… have you ever seen those huge muffins at a bakery that need to advertise their calorie count by the 1/4 muffin because they are so dense and thick? This candle smelled like one of those: amazing! I could smell the cake batter very well, and also the pumpkin, cinnamon, maple, and vanilla. The scent was slightly lighter when burned; I did find the dry whiff stronger, which was slightly disappointing. But the scent was amazing and yummy! A must-buy for pumpkin and bakery candle lovers.
Overall, this candle burned quite well. I find that candles without smooth, round walls tend not to get as thorough and complete wax burn as others. In this case, the “pumpkin-ribbed” edges did contain a little unburned wax. I think this as a trade-off between having a unique and fun shape and getting ideal burn from a more standard container. I personally think it’s worth it to have a different item such as this.
Soot… very minimal. The scent throw was fine but not superlative; my 10×12 room was well-scented though the aroma did not drift out of the open door. I did get the advertised number of hours, approximately 130, of burn time from this candle with proper wick-trimming. The wax pool formed readily and burned evenly throughout.
Closing to my review:
Overall, this was a great candle burning experience! I love the shape of these pumpkin centerpiece candles. I had to resist biting into the delicious-smelling wax now and again, which is a testament to the wonderful aroma. I have already wrapped these up for gift-giving and, if Goose Creek keeps selling them, I plan to buy more in years to come for not only for me and my candle-avid friends but also people who like nice designs. As fall decorating goes, these could be placed in almost any household for a seasonal look and augment the atmosphere, even for people who don’t burn candles.
Goose Creek also has frequent sales and bundle deals as well as prompt delivery and overall great customer service. Give this bakery-delight a try: even if you don’t like the scent, you can use the container for fall decorating.
Happy candle burning!
Burn Performance: 4/5
