First impression of Cookie Dough Bites:
Cookie Dough Bites seriously had my mouth watering the moment I saw this candle in a Goose Creek marketing email. COOKIE DOUGH BITES! I couldn’t help imagining a gooey and sugary chocolate chip cookie dough with brown sugar and butter. YUM!!!
Here is the scent description from Goose Creek’s website:
Delight your senses with a fresh batch of sweet vanilla cookie dough blended with rich bittersweet chocolate. An indulgent scent that is sure to make you want to lick the bowl.
First impression when I smelled the wax… drum roll……. the wax smelled nothing like cookie dough. (Insert sad face) Not even close. I even had my 12 year old smell it. I didn’t let him see the label, I just had him smell the inside of the lid and asked him what he thought. Don’t laugh but he said Chapstick. Where he got that, I have no idea. I don’t know folks… to my nose, this fragrance had very little elements of cookie dough. No vanilla, brown sugar or butter or any of the ingredients that make cookie dough smell so scrumptious. Except for chocolate… I did smell a tinge of that.
To bring some positive to the mix, the wax did smell sweet but I can’t tell you what. Very strange but I’m not giving up on this scent quite yet. It could change once the wicks are lit and candle is burning.
Time to put that to the test!
I lit this candle in my master bedroom and that’s where it stayed from start to finish. Once the wicks were lit, it took a good 30 minutes to reach a full melt pool and from then on out… I’m happy to report, the scent definitely got better and started to smell more like cookie dough…. sort of. I smelled the chocolate component the most along with sweet vanilla. The overall scent definitely smelled bakery and I would say it reminded me more of a chocolate chip cookie than cookie dough. Cookie dough smells pretty distinctive… like butter, vanilla and brown sugar mixed with flour and eggs. This scent didn’t quite smell like that and I think it’s one of those fragrances you’ll have to try for yourself to see what I mean.
Strength – I would rate this candle a 6 out of 10 in a large room. 8+ in a medium to smaller room so for maximum scent throw, I would definitely burn this candle in a medium to smaller room for the strongest aroma.
This particular candle was hard to keep up with. I had to really stay on top of wick trimming multiple times a day or the flames would become torches. It also burned very sooty no matter how vigilant I was with wick trimming. That’s a first for me with this brand.
Closing to my review:
Cookie Dough Bites was an interesting scent. I didn’t love it but I didn’t dislike it either. It was just one of those bakery scents that smelled bakery but you couldn’t really pinpoint exactly what you were smelling. That’s kind of what I took away from this one.
The biggest negative to this candle was how sooty it burned. I’m not used to that with this brand. I do think it could have been this specific scent but I can’t be sure. I have many more candles to burn and review in this new release of bakery scents from Goose Creek so we shall see.
Until then… happy candle hunting!
