Amber & Oud Wood Colonial Candle Review
By Christina Rylan
Brand: Colonial Candle
Type: 22oz large oval candle
Fragrance: Amber & Oud Wood
Scent Strength: Medium
First impression of Amber & Oud Wood:
I’m reviewing this fragrance a little early to have it up and ready for Fall. Pretty candle!! The wax was a beautiful rust orange with a well centered label showing fall leaves in the background. Just an FYI… the picture above does not do the color of this candle justice. The real candle is a much darker orange.
Here is the scent description for Amber & Oud Wood:
An addictive blend of shimmering mandarin, tangerine zest, and golden plum.
First impression… the wax smelled spicy. Not bakery spicy but exotic spicy with a perfect touch of fruity sweetness. My nose didn’t really pick up on mandarin, tangerine or golden plum separately. To me, the wax smelled like a perfumy potpourri. It was different and not what I was expecting.
Time to light my candle!
I lit this candle in my master bedroom to start out and boy did it take a long time to reach a full melt pool. It struggled actually. Whatever machine poured the wax on this specific candle did a lousy job. The wax around both wicks was significantly higher than the wicks so it immediately began to tunnel. The aroma… a sweet and spicy fruity potpourri scent. Not overbearing like some potpourri aromas can be but still strong enough to give me a raging headache. Ugh! I did not like this scent – at all!! Personal choice though. There was just something in it that gave me a headache. ☹ Fragrances can do that and when it happens, I ended up tossing it.
Strength – I think had this candle burned correctly, it would have packed a punch. Mine however struggled too much so I would rate this candle (based off my experience) a 6 out of 10 in a really large room. 8 in a medium and 10 in a small.
How did my candle burn?
As stated above, this candle struggled from the start. Very big bummer.
Closing to my review:
Amber & Oud Wood was a very different Fall scent, and I may have enjoyed it more had it not triggered a headache – but it did. That doesn’t happen very often and when it does, I take it as a sign to extinguish the flames and either give it away or toss it. Headaches pretty much say… this fragrance is not for you.
We all have different triggers of what we like and don’t like so please don’t let my experience with Amber & Oud Wood stop you from at least smelling it. Who knows, you may love it.
Happy candle hunting!
