First impression of Pink Petal Tea Cake:
I was scratching my head at why on earth I purchased Pink Petal Tea Cake to review. It has rose in it, the single floral on this planet I absolutely cannot handle. It was the “tea cake” that got me along with the cutsie label and pretty pink wax. I’m a sucker for cake and presentation… what can I say? And then I smelled the wax…. Ugh!! Rose!! It was the first note I detected and it was pretty strong. Crossing fingers (and toes) the cake notes come out once burning. It is my only hope.
But before I get into that, let’s start off with the scent description:
Pink rose petals, pound cake, vanilla glaze.
Yes, pound cake and vanilla glaze. That’s the reason I ultimately purchased this candle. I’m hoping those two elements balance out the floral. We shall see.
I had a feeling this candle would be a room filler so I lit this candle in my master bedroom. I was also brave and burned it on a Sunday when my husband would be home all day. I lit it early in the morning and just waited to see what would happen. He dislikes rose a thousand times more than I do so if anyone was going to complain right away, it would be him. Guess what? He didn’t. Once the wicks were lit, it took minutes before I started noticing the aroma and it was definitely rose alright but very toned down against the pound cake. In fact, I would say this fragrance was rose blended with vanilla – lots and lots of sweet and creamy vanilla. 85% vanilla pound cake, 15% rose. The floral was loud and clear but not super strong and believe it or not, totally doable. My husband was in and out of our bedroom throughout the day and actually spent an hour or two on his laptop in there. He never once said a word. Not once, and trust me, if he hated it, he would have said something. That is HUGE! The day is not over but it’s a good sign. This scent is indeed Pink Petal Tea Cake. Lots of cake, teeny hint of pink petals. I can’t say that I loved it and would purchase it again but, it lived up to everything in the description and I didn’t mind it at all.
Strength for Pink Petal Tea Cake – I would rate this candle a 10 out of 10 in any size room. This candle fragranced my entire bedroom, open bathroom and even spilled into my great room. Very strong fragrance.
How did my Pink Petal Tea Cake candle burn?
This candle burned perfect. Zero wick issues. In fact, I had to trim the wicks a few times, an inconvenience I actually didn’t mind. Also, clean burning from start to finish.
Closing to my review:
Pink Petal Tea Cake was such an interesting surprise. I went into this review with dread and actually ended up enjoying it – as much as I possibly could anyway. The aroma still smelled like roses, there was no getting around that but once again, the rose wasn’t overpowering. The cake was much stronger, balancing out the floral.
If you love the scent of rose, you will LOVE this fragrance. It was like sitting down at a tea party with vanilla cake wafting around you with a fresh bouquet of roses sitting on the table next to you. If you aren’t a fan of rose (like me) definitely smell this candle if you can and see what you think. I’m actually going to say…. two thumbs up.
Happy candle hunting!
