Coastal Linen Signature Soy Candle Review
By Christina Rylan
Brand: Signature Soy Candle
Type: 15.2oz candle
Fragrance: Coastal Linen
Scent Strength: Light
First impression of Coastal Linen:
As soon as I hit a Target store, the candle section is my first stop and could easily spend a good hour there alone just sniffing all the candles. Target has a nice variety of brands but the Signature Soy candles from Illume are my favorite and I usually walk away with at least one or two each time I’m there. Coastal Linen was my latest acquisition and it smelled wonderful. Like a soft but fresh body splash. It was perfumey but not overly so and can see why they named it a linen scent. It totally had a fresh kind of fabric softener vibe.
Coastal Linen is described as – Ocean, fresh, linen.
Fresh scents are always a challenge to describe in a review and Coastal Linen was no different. It simply smelled like a bright and fresh perfume. Of the three elements in the description above, I would say I smelled linen and fresh more than ocean. When I imagine an ocean type scent, I think of a zesty ozone. A very strong sort of “soapy” smell. There was no ozone notes to this fragrance and I was happy about that since I’m generally not a fan of that type of scent.
Time to light my candle!
I lit this candle in a small room to start out and that’s where it stayed till the very end. It took several hours to reach a full melt pool (even with two wicks) but the aroma was present long before that and it smelled just as lovely as it did on cold sniff. A fresh kind of body splash aroma filled my powder room. I would call Coastal Linen unisex and a fragrance both male and female would enjoy. In fact, I wouldn’t mind my linens smelling like this. I also wouldn’t mind this scent as a body lotion or soap. It truly did smell fresh and clean. The only downside, the scent was pretty light, even in a small room.
Which brings me to strength – I would rate Coastal Linen a 6/7 out of 10 in a super small room. I wouldn’t even attempt burning this one in anything larger unless you don’t care about the scent.
How did my Coastal Linen candle burn?
This candle struggled from the start. Both wicks lit right up but the flames stayed kind of small, from beginning to end, and I never once had to trim them. Because of this, the wax never really got hot enough to throw a strong scent. That’s my theory anyway. Other than that, this candle burned okay. Just very slow.
Closing to my review:
Coastal Linen is a perfect scent if you love fresh unisex aromas. I do, so I did enjoy this one. I just wish the fragrance would have been a lot stronger. Signature Soy candles do tend to be on the lighter side but if you don’t mind burning them in smaller rooms, they’re great and reasonably priced. Check them out next time you’re at your local Target store.
Happy candle hunting!
