Bath & Body Works Aromatherapy line has some nice offerings, including candles in scents that coordinate with their lotions, gels, etc. My regular purchase is Eucalyptus Spearmint, a scent combo that they have mixed in just the right proportion to please my nose – a feat I’ve not yet found with other vendors. My only B&BW brand candle experience is their apothecary jar scented with Eucalyptus Spearmint. It was a discounted sale purchase, as the normal $18 pricetag for a 10 oz. candle is really too hefty for my purse for an average candle. The jar is a pretty clear glass which avoids being too simple and boring by having a flared base and lid. I like this style since the lid allows me to extinguish the candle without the annoying smoke in my bath, and without having to have more clutter (wick dipper) in an already tiny room. It also keeps normal bathroom debris (such as stray talc) from dirtying the clean white wax when the candle isn’t lit. It does burn clean – no residue sticking to the sides of the jar. A melt pool forms in a reasonable amount of time, and it doesn’t burn too quickly. It will tend toward a low-ish blue flame after more than a couple of hours burning, but extinguishing it and coming back much later takes care of that. I’ve not had one actually drown itself. It doesn’t develop carbon ball mushrooms, nor have I had one smoke or soot. The scent throw leaves something to be desired. I’m burning this in a very small room: scent area is 25 sq. ft., and it gives only a light scent. I’m not sure if this is by design (aromatherapy may be subtle so as not to annoy sensitive people?) but my personal preference would be for a more powerful scent in this mint-y candle. I want to revel in this relaxing aroma. I recommend this only if you have deep pockets – or if you are able to take advantage of the numerous sales at B&BW. For this price point ($1.80 per oz. of wax), I would expect a scent throw like an Aromatique candle, and an attractive candleboy to maintain it for me. Discounted so it’s about $1 an ounce or less it becomes more realistic, and is the only way I would continue to purchase this candle. While I realize essential oils can be more pricey, causing a candle to cost more to manufacture, I don’t feel (or smell) that there is enough scent in these to warrant the price tag.
