Bodie Island Shining Sol Candle Review

Brand: Shining Sol Candle Co
Type: Lighthouse Collection Mason Jar
Fragrance: Bodie Island
Scent Strength: Medium
First impression of Bodie Island from Shining Sol:
First off, super cute candle!! Shining Sol’s lighthouse collection candles have an adorable nautical theme and are too cute for words. Candle lovers… you have to check these out. Where to begin? The jar itself is a standard glass mason jar but how they designed it really makes it stand out. The bottom layer of the candle is actual sand from the ocean. The rest is wax with the cutest clear label showing a lighthouse with all the info on the candle and fragrance. Very well done. The wick is wooden as with all Shining Sol candles and the fragrance… Aaaah!! My specific candle is called Bodie Island and the scent description is described as:
Clean ocean. Driftwood. Citrus.
Simply stated but accurate. First sniff, mmmm!! The moment I put my nose up to the wax, a fresh and soothing fragrance drifted all around me. A fragrance that smelled yummy but not easy to describe. Here goes…. The citrus was loud and clear blended with something else that was sweet and fresh at the same time. The clean ocean maybe? Whatever it was… LOVED!! It smelled slightly masculine to me as well which had to be the driftwood. Add the citrus and oh my goodness – it was perfect. All three elements combined made for one terrific scent. A sweet masculine scent that kind of reminded me of a fresh body splash.
Shining Sol candles are generally medium scented for me so I chose a medium/small room to light this candle in. It was a perfect choice. The wood wick lit right up and within minutes, the freshest aroma of Bodie Island filled my guest bedroom and it smelled just as it did on cold sniff… a fresh citrus toned down with hints of masculine cologne along with a teeny hint of fresh ozone. Whatever the masculine component was, it made this scent. It was actually driving me nuts trying to figure out, and I think this is a fragrance you really need to experience yourself to fully appreciate.
Strength – I would rate this candle an 8 out of 10 in a medium size room. 10 in a small room. If you want to go large, try burning two candles at once or if Shining Sol offers melts in this scent, go with melts.
How did my candle burn?
This candle burned perfect. I was really careful to trim the wood wick every few hours I had this candle burning. That’s the key to a perfect burn with wood wick candles. The more you keep the wick properly trimmed, the better the burn performance. I learned that the hard way.
Closing to my review:
I hope I didn’t do too lousy of a job describing this scent to you. It’s not easy describing a fragrance sometimes, and all I can say is – I loved Bodie Island and recommend it to all candle lovers across the spectrum. To me, this scent wasn’t fruity, too masculine or harsh. It was a perfect blending of all three elements in the scent description – an airy unisex fragrance I could easily wear as a body splash or lotion. It was that kind of scent.
Shining Sol continues to surprise me with each new custom blend they come out with. These lighthouse candles are very cool and I can’t wait to try the other scents in this line. Will they be as fresh and airy? Oh, I hope so!! Stay tuned.
Happy candle hunting!
