Banana Split Milkshake Bath & Body Works Review
By Christina Rylan
Brand: Bath & Body Works
Type: 14.5oz large 3 wick candle
Fragrance: Banana Split Milkshake
Scent Strength: Medium
First impression of Banana Split Milkshake:
I’m not generally a huge fan of banana fragrances but this candle sounded interesting and a fun fragrance for summer. I imagined sweet bananas blended with vanilla and sugar. I can handle that just fine. ? Cute candle too with it’s bright yellow wax and summery label. I’m in and purchased one to review.
Here is the scent description pulled from the bottom of the candle:
Sweet bananas, Chocolate Sauce, Cherry on top.
Hmmm. I would have never guessed chocolate sauce was in this fragrance. Nor cherry. When I popped off the lid to smell the wax, a sweet banana and vanilla cream wafted all around me. It was very sweet and mostly all banana. If the chocolate comes to life once burning… sounds awesome! I’m crossing my fingers it does.
And with that said, let’s find out!
Since this was such a fun sort of “kid” scent, I decided to change things up and light this candle in my teenage boys game room, aka, their “man cave.” It’s a medium size room and should be plenty big to house this candle. Let’s see what they (and I) think of it. ?
I started this candle on a Saturday morning and let it burn all weekend – blowing it out periodically of course. Once the aroma was wafting through the room, well, the scent was hard to miss. My boys seemed to like it, I didn’t and here’s why. When I first sniffed the wax, I smelled a sweet sort of candied banana. It was sweet and sugary and I did like it. Once lit, the scent morphed to me. From then on out, all I could smell was vanilla as the base with subtle hints of banana in the background and the banana didn’t smell very authentic. The overall aroma was weak and kind of boring, and truth be told… I wasn’t impressed. My boys on the other hand said their room smelled like vanilla ice cream and they liked it. They never mentioned banana which affirms what I was smelling too. Solid vanilla.
Strength – this candle wasn’t very strong. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate this candle a 6/7 in a medium size room. 10 in a small room and I wouldn’t even try burning this one in a large room. I’m glad I stuck to medium room.
How did my candle burn?
This candle burned pretty good. The first half burned perfect. The second half, the wicks did taper down but it still burned okay, just very slow.
Closing to my review:
All in all, Banana Split Milkshake was just an okay scent in my book. It didn’t have the “wow” factor I normally require if it’s going to be a re-purchase, and this one simply didn’t have it. Also want to mention, the chocolate and cherry listed in the description never really did materialized for me. No biggie… you win some, you lose some and I bet there are plenty of candle lovers out there who will disagree with me. If you’re one of them… post your thoughts below. What did you think of this candle? Love it or hate it? We’d love to know.
Don’t see this candle listed on Bath & Body Works website? No worries. Try one of their stores which tends to carry all their current fragrances vs online. It wasn’t that long ago I purchased this candle.
Happy candle hunting!
