Introduction to my review:
Boy, I was so way off with all the Christmas candles I bought and how fast I could get them reviewed. Before I knew it, December was literally over. One candle I really wanted to get up on Candlefind for sure was Balsam & Cedar from Yankee Candle. My hubby loves pine tree scents and I wanted to surprise him with this one… even though I’m a month late. My bad!!
Yankee (a few months back) had all their medium jars on sale for $10 a piece. Considering these candles are normally $25 dollars each, that’s a steal! I ended up throwing Cedar & Balsam in my cart on a whim… the price was too good to pass up.
What did my Balsam & Cedar candle look like?
This candle was their 14.5oz classic medium jar. The wax was a Christmas tree green with one single wick. The label on the face was clear showing the Yankee logo and a close up of a pine tree.
What did my Yankee Balsam & Cedar candle smell like?
Cold sniff…. I didn’t care for this candle at all. It smelled really perfumy and fake to me. It was strong but with a (bug repellent) kind of vibe. Here is the scent description from Yankee’s site:
“A Christmas Favorite. The festive scent of a freshly cut tree, brought home tied with twine to top of the car, then set in its base to let its fragrant boughs fan out, is a sure sign that the holidays have arrived. This wonderfully nostalgic blend of balsam, aromatic cedar wood, and juniper berry delivers that fresh forest scent and a world of delightful holiday memories.”
I had my husband – “Mr. Pine and Christmas tree expert” smell this candle before lighting it and he perked up as soon as he smelled it. I was surprised… I thought he would agree with me and not like it. Nope… he said it smelled exactly like a Christmas tree. I didn’t believe him (at all), but I lit this candle anyway and waited to see what happened.
Once lit… I’d say it took a good hour or more to really start noticing the scent. Did it smell any better? Yes. Believe it or not, it actually smelled pretty good and my hubby was right… it smelled just like a Christmas tree. Yankee candles (in general) are on the lighter side for me but in this case, I was actually thankful for it. Pine scented candles always give me a headache… this one didn’t. It gave a nice soft throw… you noticed it as soon as you walked into the room but it wasn’t overwhelming.
How did my Balsam & Cedar candle burn?
Pretty good for a single wick candle. It took a long time to get a complete melt pool but all in all, it burned great.
Closing to my review:
I was pleasantly surprised by this candle. It started out on a “not so good” note but it eventually won me over. Plus, my husband really enjoyed it… that’s all that mattered.
I would buy this candle again. (On sale)
Happy candle hunting!

One of my favorite Christmas scents too. It smells like a real Christmas tree.
Balsam & Cedar is one of my favorite Christmas tree scents from Yankee. I have bought it in candle and wax melt form. It gives a nice medium throw in my home. A couple other great tree scents I like from Yankee during Christmas is Mistletoe and Pinecone & Lime, both are med-strong and smell wonderful!
