Candlefind Says

A lovely, warm fragrance that mixes the brightness of bergamot with the sexiness of amber. While we aren’t wild about the large packaging and greasy feel, these wax melts are well worth the price in the performance department!

Pros

  • Long lasting
  • Easy to mix/match

Cons

  • Greasy
  • Requires more room to store
  • Price

Trapp Fragrances is a solid go-to company around here, as they always seem to have high quality products with reasonable prices for a luxury brand. I gravitate towards the candles and often forget about the wax melts, and I’m not sure why. The wax melts generally perform well, too, even though I still prefer the candles. As we are winding down the summer, I thought that the Amber & Bergamot wax melts would be good to put to the Candlefind test.

Packaging/Presentation

trapp fragrances amber & bergamot wax melts
Trapp wax melts come in a long, rectangular package and are scored in various geometric pieces.

Honestly, I think part of the reason I don’t grab up Trapp wax melts is because of the unusual packaging – at least by my wax melt standards. The box is rectangular and a bit more difficult to store in my usual clamshell storage places. Still, the box that the melts came in was well made and easily identifiable, with company and scent names clearly displayed. Amber & Bergamot is also considered fragrance No. 21, and that was included on the outside of the packaging as well. The color was a deep green, appropriate for this type of scent.

The wax melt pieces themselves are unusually shaped. They come in these geometric patterns that are scored, making it easy to break apart. The pieces are various sizes and that does make it easy to get just the amount of wax that you want. It also makes it easy to mix and match fragrances to make your own unique blend. The wax is off white and a little greasy to touch (one of the things I dislike about these wax melts). They are easy to break apart, though, so that goes in the plus column.

Authenticity

The cold sniff for these wax melts was amazing! It was warm and inviting, a little earthy and sexy. It almost had a tad bit of a grassy note. I could distinctly pick out the warm amber notes and some woodiness, but it was difficult to pick out the bergamot on cold sniff.

A smooth, velvety combination of aromatic bergamot and the sultriness of amber.

Trapp Fragrances

Once the wax started melting, that’s when the real complexity and beauty of this scent came through. The brightness of the bergamot lightened up the mood, so to speak, and it really mixed well with the warm amber notes. It kept the scent from being too heavy – more like warm and cozy. This was not an Early Grey tea kind of scent – it was really rich and more earthy than straight up EGT. It was lovely!

Scent Strength & Scent Throw

The cold sniff fragrance was pretty strong, as to be expected from Trapp. I used a 20W hotplate melter and used about 2 pieces at a time. In a large, open space, the scent carried well and was moderately strong. It did not blow the doors off, like Bob‘s Flower Shoppe, but it certainly held it’s own and did a great job scenting up the area it was in.

Melt Performance

The wax melts I used lasted all day in my wax melter and kept going strong, even after I shut the warmer off. I was able to keep rewarming the wax for a few days afterwards, and I was still getting some pretty good scent, even though it had expectedly started to fade over time. What I really love about these wax melts is that they do seem to give off a lot of fragrance even once the melter is turned off.

I have to pour the wax out hot when using Trapp melts. They don’t freeze well to pop out of the melter – the wax is a little too soft and “greasy” for that. Still, I prefer a hot pour anyway, so this is not as big of an issue to me.

Conclusion

I love Trapp fragrances for a number of different reasons, and their wax melts seem to be on-point, too. While I still prefer their candles, the wax melts are a great flameless option from this brand. Amber & Bergamot is a great fragrance year-round, but now that we’re heading into Fall, this would be a perfect time for this type of scent. I would certainly repurchase the fragrance (but probably in candle form). I realize the wax melts are a little on the pricey side, but truthfully, they are really worth it. The wax melts last such a long time, you get more than your money’s worth out of them!

About Trapp Fragrances

Trapp Fragrances was begun in the early 1990s by interior designer and florist Bob Trapp in Kansas City, Missouri. He sold the company to his friends at The Faultless Starch/Bon Ami Co. in 1995. Since that time, the Trapp Fragrances brand has grown and expanded to include several home fragrance items and several unique, luxury fragrances. Although Trapp Fragrances is considered a luxury brand, it is a relatively affordable luxury with products able to be found at many local retailers and online.
