Many of the Yankee large jar candles suck. There. I said it. And I don’t regret it.
It didn’t always use to be this way. Yankee Candle was one of my first candle loves. I look back fondly on Roses of Cliff Walk and Honeydew Melon. Stargazer Lily was my best friend, second only to my adorable, faithful Maltese. I remember only shopping for large jar candles from Yankee because they were such room fillers – the quality was fantastic and I thought it was money well spent.
Fast forward to the past decade and I have to admit it. It’s just not the same relationship anymore. I’ve tried. I’ve wanted to believe. New scents. New jar styles. New homes and new rooms. It just isn’t working for me. Year after year I keep purchasing large candle jars only to feel duped. Bamboozled. Hoodwinked. And it appears I’m not alone in this. I keep reading more and more disappointment in these candles. I constantly get emails asking Why? What happened?
Truth is, I don’t know. I do know the quality just isn’t the same anymore, so I’ve changed my buying strategy. I rarely try a new-to-me scent in the large, housewarmer jars anymore. That ship has sailed. If I want to try a new scent, I usually go with the Easy MeltCups or use a votive as a wax melt. I’ve had much better luck with their two wick tumbler jars, so I do purchase those when looking for a candle to pack a punch. Still, there are some large jar candles that do still cut the mustard, so on with the list!
1. Lemon Lavender

This candle is fresh and clean – very bright! It still does a great job of scenting up large open spaces and remains one of my very favorites.
2. Fresh Cut Roses

Is this Roses of Cliff Walk? I’m not exactly sure, but it’s a fabulous rose-scented candle, complete with greenery. I love the throw I get from this candle time and time again.
3. Black Cherry

Black cherry is just one of those scents that is hard to screw up. It’s generally a strong scent, and I find the Yankee Candle large jar in this scent a great thrower.
4. Bahama Breeze

Ok, this scent is not as super strong as some of the others on this list, but it is a great scent and it does travel well for me. It’s tropical and beachy and fruity and just delicious.
5. Berrylicious

This scent is one of the strongest scented candles that Yankee has to offer, in my opinion. It is fruity and creamy. The beautiful wax melt pool while burning is just an added bonus.
6. Home Sweet Home

Moving away from the florals and fruits, Home Sweet Home is warm, cozy, and inviting. This spicy scent does travel well.
7. Juicy Watermelon

I’ll admit to being a little surprised by this one. Watermelon? Strong? But this candle has performed well for me on multiple occasions. It is so sweet and so good!
8. Lilac Blossoms

This is another floral from Yankee and it does a pretty good job of filling the air. I have yet to be disappointed with this one.
9. Pineapple Cilantro

This tropical sensation is so unique and strong. I just love the way it makes my home smell!
10. Sweet Honeysuckle

This one is a bit more tricky because the floral scent itself is more subtle but the scent throw is fantastic. I am a Southern belle through and through, so I was thrilled to see this scent returning back to Yankee Candle.
There you have it. My recommendations for 10 Yankee Candle large candle jars that are still worth their salt. We have a number of Yankee Candle reviews on this site with more planned on the way. Who knows? Our thoughts on these might change as we try more and more of their newer scents.
