We all have have a common bond on this forum - scents or some form thereof. We have discussed our children and significant other, but if we were in a room being introduced, what is one thing that we would never guess about you just by being introduced? One thing that is not obvious about me is that I own a 1922 Model T Ford.

Here is a picture:

When I was a child, there was a guy in my neighborhood that had a Model T (it had a back seat) and sometimes he would take all of the kids for a ride around the neighborhood. Now fast forward. When I met my husband, he loved old cars - he sold an old Army Jeep to help pay for the wedding. After we had been married for a few years, my husband wanted to buy an antique car. Our first car was a 1940 Ford that he played around with. We joined a local antique car club and his hobby began. We enjoyed many outings with the car club in our Ford and I loved watching the children whenever we were in a local parade. After many years and we had lived in our home for quite some time, I told him about my childhood rides around the neighborhood in a Model T Ford. One of the gentlemen in our car club knew that I really loved his Model T and when he died, his wife offered it to me for sale. Now, when I bought this car, it came in buckets:

Because it was not my husband's favorite car, it took him many years to restore it to its present condition. We have had it at several car shows and it has won awards. Now, we love to just put the top down and once again, I am riding in my very own Model T Ford. It is tricky to drive - everything is down through three pedals on the floor so I am now in the process of trying to learn to drive it. Let's just hope I don't wreck it and all of my husband's hard work in making my dream come alive.

What are some of your other hobbies?

Wow, that is totally amazing! I loved getting to know that about you! Now I'm gonna have to think of something to share.

Sandy, that is so cool! Holy cow. What a lot of work went into that beauty. I like how you've got a fire extinguisher wedged under the tire. Your story was really sweet. It must be so rewarding to now own a Model T yourself, and relive those childhood memories whenever you wish.

My DH is a car buff too. Fortunately, like yours, he does the restoration himself and can fix anything. His current baby is a 1955 Chevy. It's more of a hotrod. He calls it a family car so I made him install seat belts. He's had a variety of classic cars over the years. Never a Model T though. I like yours. I'd flip out trying to drive it.

Great thread. Wax and B&B is my biggest hobbie. I like to take pictures too. I just started a 365 project where I take a photo each day and add it to my project, like a photo journal. It's not my original idea. There are a few established websites that have these projects. I'm just doing one on my own.

Great thread idea, Sandy! Your Model T looks amazing!! Jules, your photo project sounds fun.

The thing most people are VERY surprised to learn about me is that I'm really into fantasy football. Like, a LOT. I get very competitive and I read a bunch of blogs about strategies and players and upcoming games. Of course it doesn't go year-round, but in the fall I LOVE it. I was so lucky that the time I had to live apart from DH landed exactly on the NFL regular season so I could distract myself with maintaining my team.

My avatar here on Candlefind is the same avatar I use for fantasy football...my team name is Teh Kittehs and my mascot is a cat. No one is ever surprised to hear that I like cats OR candles, but if I ever want to raise an eyebrow, I just casually mention my fantasy league and start dropping NFL names. It's really fun. Wow: This is just the coolest topic..Well, lets see... I think y'all know I'm just a country girl that lives in the city..I used to be an avid fisher-person and fished almost daily growing up. I love going barefoot..even in the Winter. I love my kitties and have a very small feral colony at this point (10) originally. I love antiques-anything vintage, love restoring old stuff and have a wide variety of "treasures". I also collect vintage Barbie and not so vintage Barbie and character dolls. I have collected since I was a young girl.
I was also a "lunch lady" for about 10 years. Be sure and tell your kids to be "nice to the lunch ladies" because they do pay attention to that and appreciate it.. I guess another hobby is bath and body..I should be very clean as much as I have stockpiled.. Also, I love my coffee.. and my flower gardens..Well, that's about it.. [smilie=th_smiley_emoticons_hurr

Yes, great topic, Tobe. What a fabulous idea! [smilie=th_smiley_emoticons_hurr I really, really enjoyed your post. Your Model T is absolutely gorgeous! I can hardly believe the before and after photos, wowwweeee! What an oh-so-cool hobby!

Jules, photography, eh? That's fantastic! I often thought that'd be my hobby if I wasn't already so busy. Any chance you could share a wee photo or two? Three? Okay, I'm pushin' it, I know. [smilie=th_smilies-1]

Cmarie, fantasy football? You're right, I'd never in a million years guess that! [smilie=th_giggle] Sounds like you're having a blast with it though.

Katz, I knew some of that about you. Your feral kitties, oh so sweet. [smilie=th_huganimal] And I can only imagine how gorgeous your flower garden is. I know I'd swoon at the sight - and smell - of it! [smilie=th_hema1]

Most people here know I'm a dog lover. You might not know I'm completely obsessed with them. I was born into a non-dog loving family but have been totally smitten and entrenched in the dog world all my life.

What you might not know is that I'm an avid hiker. A few friends and I love going out into the wilds of the local beaches, mountains, deserts, canyons, etc. There's nothing quite as grounding and satisfying as communing with mother nature. We've had lots of adventures, including startling a bunch of nuns (and ourselves!) while they were soaking in a mountain stream. Another time, we met an adorable little old lady living in the most dinky yet charming cottage waaaay down in a canyon. She had to hand carry everything down in and back up. She invited us inside (it was an enchanting experience!) and told us all kinds of historic tales, proclaiming all the while that the canyon was her life's passion. Here's a few sample pictures. We actually have a private website with many highlights, including stories, photos, and wonderful memories.

What a wonderful topic, Tobe! Love the pics you shared. That car is just too cool! How do you keep it stored? Does the storage have to be climate controlled?

Jules, I could tell you were very handy with the camera. I have been watching your 365 project and LOVE it! You've inspired me to consider something of the sort next year, but I'm not a very good photographer. Still looks fun though.

Katz, I happen to love antiques - more along furniture. That's got to be pretty cool about the Barbies. I'd love to see pictures of that collection.

PuppyLove, what gorgeous photos! And yeah - I think I could have guessed about the dogs, LOL.

Cmarie, I left you for last. Fantasy football? Very cool!!! I happen to be an avid sports fan - primarily football and basketball, but I will occasionally watch some golf or tennis. I keep my television station on ESPN and NEVER miss Mike & Mike In The Morning. I am totally into the games but none of my female friends want to talk about play action passes, slant routes, 3-4 defense or red zone efficiency. I don't dabble with fantasy football, though. I think I would be too competitive and I am a sore loser, LOL. I may consider it for next year though.

I couldn't figure out how to upload the pictures into the forum. Glad you could click on them.

Jules - I sorta figured through various posts that your DH was also a car buff. You are right - very large UPS boxes and very expensive. Luckily for us, the guys do all the work. There is no other way we could afford it. We have several friends that have Chevys from the 50s. They are great cars.

Yes, Cynthia, we do have a detached garage (and a car trailer for towing) and several years ago, my husband did put in heat and air conditioning but that was only after living some 30+ years without it in the garage. It just keeps him off the streets and I usually know where he is. My husband's real love is MGs but the Model T is the only one we show and yes, at an antique car show, you have to have a fire extinguisher displayed. Many years ago, we were at a show where a Stanley Steamer blew up.

Jules - where are your pictures (website)? Cynthia said she had been looking at them. What a great idea to document your days through photos. Love it!

CMarie - I figured you were a football fan and we all know what a huge fan Cynthia is but Fantasy Football. That really sounds like fun to me but seems so complicated. I'll be rooting for you to win!

Katz - my husband is retired from the school system in the maintenance department (repaired and installed glass). He always loved the lunch ladies and they were all so good to him. Some great food when you get to know those ladies.

Puppy - I knew you were an outdoor person but what great experiences you have had. Loved the one with your canyon friend. Gorgeous pictures also.

Cynthia, it's only the beginning of February. Maybe we should start our "daily diary of photos". What do you think????

That is so interesting, Tobe! I love going to car shows and seeing some of the vintage cars. There is a vintage car museum not far from where I live. It's not actually a museum but just a personal collection of cars a wealthy gentleman has that he allows to be viewed. I haven't visited there yet but have plans to before the year is out.

I think we could definitely start our own daily photo project. Hmmmm...your own 365 thread in the OT subforum? Now that sounds fun!

This is a good read! Was that a clue? >> Yes, books...that is one of my hobbies! I love to read. And I love to read Cookbooks, because I love to bake! That is my winter activity. When I am not playing or feeding or bathing 2 cats and 2 dogs.

I am a gardener in the summer and lead garden tours at historic homes in the area.

Katz - I would also love to see your vintage Barbie pics! I have always loved looking at the dolls and the clothes from the 60's.

Puppy - great pics! You live in an area that probably has weather that cooperates.

Tobe -That is one amazing car. It must be really fun to ride in it.

Cyn - Gotta know you are a football fan with that sparkly pink football.

Jules, how do you decide what to snap each day? Random?

Cmarie - I don't know much about Fantasy Football, but I am in love with your kitty in a helmet!
