What Tara's Candle Cottage had to say:

My name is Tara Hankins hence the name in the business...Tara's Candle Cottage. I started this business almost 10 years ago as a hobby of curiosity mainly. I was curious if I could create a product with a better scent throw than the big guys out there at a more affordable price. I have been told I have done that and then some. Shortly thereafter I started looking into some bath and body products as well as handmade soaps. The majority of the business is tarts, or as I call them Wax Melts. The most popular scent is a tie between Butt Naked, Birthday Cake and Pink Sugar or Pink Sugar blends. There is a scent creator on the site where customers can create their own special blend of scents. I have recently added Mystery Melts and can't keep those in stock. There is currently an on going waiting list for those. I strive for the best product out there and have been pretty pleased with the results I have gotten over the years. I have quite a few addicted loyal customers and I love them all.

NOTE: Tara's Candle Cottage will be having a Facebook Only Fan Sale when they reach 350 "likes" on Facebook.

We will be holding a small contest with this current spotlight. I have chosen three specific facts from the company website. The first person to mention one of these facts will win a $10 gift certificate to Tara's Candle Cottage!

Winner will be announced January 30th.

Laurie, these threads are started for chit chat about the specific companies that will be featured. If during the course of chit chat within this thread someone happens to mention one of the facts I am thinking about, that person will win a $10 gift cert to Tara's. The winner won't be announced until Sunday, though. HTH.

Type of wax: Parasoy blend

I like the way this is laid out - and this type of info is very useful, since I find that parasoy seems to give me the most throw. It's much easier than digging around a vendor's site for the nuts n' bolts info. Nice job!

I haven't tried Tara's yet. I'm also intrigued by the idea of "sniffy samples", since often I'm looking for a certain scent and would like to compare it among vendors to see which one is THE one I'm looking for. Most don't offer a really economical way to do that, and I'm much more likely to try out someone that does offer something like this.

I noticed there are jar refills available... how does that work? It wouldn't seem economical to mail a jar back - is it just a wax refill that fits in the jar? I like the idea... I have too many jars as it is.

I am also liking the sniffies! I am going to have to go see how they are made.

And I have always wondered about that, too Stardust - when it is a refill program, it that just for the locals?

I think these cut-to-the-chase outlines are very handy! Some websites make my head swim, [smilie=th_a136] and I always seem to miss some good stuff! This way, you can get the facts here, right up front, then go to the site to snoop around a bit.

Great! I'm glad you find the information helpful.

The sniffy appears to be a cotton swab dipped in fragrance and sealed in a plastic baggie. Not sure if you could tell what it would smell like in wax, but I guess you could get some idea about the scent.

I've really enjoyed a recent order from here. I had ordered long ago when the tarts were more secondary to the bath/body stuff. At that time you could only order scallops. I had some ok tarts but nothing terribly special (except her Biolage has always been wonderful!). There must have been some changes, though. Much better quality and scent throws from the tarts.

I like the way she packages the multiple scent shots:

And the pretty colors will suck me in anytime:

I'm wondering about the Mystery Melts. Anyone tried those?

I've only tried a few samples from Tara's that a friend shared with me a long time ago. I'm interested in an upcoming sale.

I'd give them another try. Maybe get a body wash too. Toasted Marshmallow scent has been on my mind lately.

These company spotlight threads are gonna be fun! [smilie=th_c61] Count me in as a 'like' for the sniffies, too. I used to get scent samples from Bathed & Infused (B&B) and they were helpful deciding about a scent. I'm curious about the refills, too. I'd like to see a FAQ area on her site rather than having to email questions. I also like the create-a-scent's and that there are examples of combo's customers have come up with. Saves from taxing my brain too much. This company is new to me...nice site with a good selection of waxies and scents.

You know, I never thought about it but that is a good deal. Especially if you order any candles.

I'm glad you like it, Cindy. Those mystery tarts seem to stay out of stock. Just knowing that makes me want them all the more.

I did get some additional information and clarification from Tara on a few things.

* The Mystery Melts do sell out fast, but if really interested you can email Tara to be put on a 'reserve' list. When they become available you'll get first dibs if your name is next up on the list.

* She did say there was a period of time she went through different suppliers because some were going OOB. That is why I did notice a difference with scent throw back in the day and now.

* The jar refill program is primarily for local customers. She said that if you did buy candles from her, you could send in your jar to be refilled (but of course, that's really not very economical).

Good news, Jules. I just placed my order. Melts and one candle. I got my creative juices flowing and created several scents this time: Frosted Apple Cinnamon Cookie (Buttercream/Apple Cinnamon/Sugar Cookie), Kiwi Frozen Coconut Pie (Key Lime Pie/Bahama Coconut), Fifteens (Bahama Coconut/Toasted Marshmallow/Sugar Cookie), Watermelon Margarita (Da Lime in Da Coconut/Wild Watermelon), and Tropical Zucchini Bread (Monkey Mouth/Zucchini Bread). Oh Cyn...those scent combos sounds great! [smilie=th_thumbs20up] I'm thinking of making up a couple myself...but the last time I did that at Cheryl's they didn't come out very appealing...I think I'm missing that "mixing scents" gene...LOL [smilie=th_foolish1]
