LOL announced their candle club details yesterday: $35/yr. + the 8.50 shipping on that, you get a 10oz jar at sign-up, plus a free 6-pack of melts w/ each order of $10 or more during the year (your choice of scents). They also mentions members-only sales and raffles.

I'm thinking of doing it. It says the break-even point is 3 orders per year, and I'd easily do that. LOL has some scents that I just don't find elsewhere (true of all my faves, it seems). I think I'll wait for a big order though... if that's counting as regular merchandise I'd go for the $100/free shipping deal.

I'm trying to think out my wax-buying strategy for making the best use of this. Any ideas? Anyone else thinking of signing up?

Stardust, I like you have been debating the issue but I am extremely confused. Now, don't start bashing me, because I love LOL, but I just don't understand. We pay $35 and get a candle that we can order for $12.99. Also, if we order $10, we get I assume a pack clamshells for free. However, if we order over $30, we get 4 popp tarts for $.01. I guess it depends on if it is worth $22.01 (difference between $35 and $12.99) to be on the mailing list for sales and raffles. My LOL orders are usually large enough for free shipping. I, too, would like to hear what others think. Maybe I am just not getting it.

P.S. Having cats, I usually stick to tarts and don't use a lot of candles.

I joined already. I didn't take time to analyze the cost of everything since I order from LOL frequently. I did just place an order on Monday so I asked if my shipping could be refunded on the club purchase. I have not received an email as of yet. I figured my free candle and tarts could just go in the box with my order.

I would have liked the candle club to have some kind of points accumulation as to how much you spent and have that qualify you for some free merchandise.

Oh gosh, Tobe, I'd not bash anyone for something like that. Part of the reason I posted was to watch us all think out loud about how good / not so good this deal is.

I'd not order the membership alone because $35 + $8.50 is pretty spendy. For that, you get the instant gratification of a $13 candle + $10 - $12 in tarts, so $23 - $25 of stuff (shipping for that alone would normally be $8.50, so that's a wash) for $35. You'd have to be sure you ordered another 2 at-least-$10 orders to get the free $10-$12 tarts each time, and get your money's worth. I really hate paying shipping (don't we all) so try to make an order maximize the bang-for-my-buck.

I placed a LOL order last Friday and have asked if I can add on a membership - or better yet, add a membership and a couple of apothecary jars and just get the free shipping deal. I just emailed Allison this morning, so haven't heard back yet. If she says yes, I'll sign up now.

I do like LOL, so it may be a good deal for me. It would seem that I might need to place more frequent, smaller orders to make best use of the free 6-pack. I'd likely place $20 orders to keep the shipping down to $5 (the jump from $5 - $8.50 is just a psych barrier for me - don't know why) since frequent $100 orders would only happen if I win the lottery or managed to snag a generous benefactor.

Like *that* would happen.

$20 would get me an apothecary jar, which is the style I like best anyway (though they're discontinuing those in favor of a different 10oz jar soon), or 10 popp tarts, so planning on spending $25 ($20 + $5 postage) maybe 5x a year plus a big $100 order would be $25 in postage, vs 2 $100 orders which is no postage.

I'd get 6 "free" 6 packs of tarts with those, a value of around $60 (I'm using the $10 option to figure the math 'cos otherwise my head is going to start spinning). Two out of the 6 would go toward my "break even" point on the membership, leaving me 4 "free" 6 packs. That would cost $40 normally, but I'm also paying $25 I'd not usually spend in postage, so I'm ahead about $15.

Then there's the unknown quantity of exclusive sales discounts which would factor in. But overall, it seems like an OK deal for my buying habits.

What's likely to change: I'll have to buy smaller / more frequently. This fits in with managing wax stash, so that works. It also means I'll likely spend less in experimenting with smaller vendors since I'll want to maximize my club membership with LOL. There's only so much money to go around, and I don't see cutting my CBV orders because I want what I want from there and that doesn't change. She's my #1 for jars anyway. I don't think it'll cut into my Spotted Hog budget because I tend to favor her for Fall stuff (the Perfect Pumpkin Pie is indeed, perfect). I'm kind of at a point where I'm not needing to experiment as much as when I first started getting melts, so I think the sacrifice of experimenting with vendors would be worth it. I can still try new places - just much smaller orders. I can stick a toe in the water, I don't need to dive. LOL reliably has good scents and strong throws so I'm not too worried about committing to something I won't like.

OK... I did all this math, now somebody else needs to crunch some numbers!

I can't do higher math but I did join the club right away. I order here frequently and always qualify for free shipping (except when they briefly eliminated that option). It makes it worth it to me for the free candle and 6 pack of tarts from the get-go, plus additional 6-packs with each order placed. There are supposed to be some club-only scents, too.

Orange Pecan Brulee and Sweet Potato Bread are fantastic! They were available only for FB fans initially but now will be available to everyone. If they make some similarly fantastic scents that would only be available to candle club members, I would hate to miss out. I also like the allure of club only discounts. Those perks are what make it work for me.

I signed up tonight. I hadn't heard back from Allison so I called and Achilles said I could add the club to my outstanding order. I added a couple of jars since my other order plus membership made me close to free shipping, and those put me over. I love that they're flexible like that.

I picked 32 Degrees as my free candle (I could eat that scent!) and got a Vampire's Kiss as one of the popp tarts. That's the only club scent they have listed now, but I know they'll add more soon.

My six pack was one each of Cashew Caramel Apple, Deep Fried Vanilla Apples, Home Sweet Home, Toffee Coffee Cake, Waffles Supreme and Cotton Candy Confection. My candle was Pearamel.

You have to analyze your own buying habits. For me, it means ordering more often to utilize that free 6 pack offer. I have to keep them as small orders since I don't have $100/month to spend on wax. I like LOL's products enough to know that they'll have something I want and buy regularly.

The "member's only" scents is a nice perk, but wasn't a make-or-break thing for me. Unless they clone Coffee With Santa!

So I sent an email asking about adding the club to my order. My order was to go out on the 4th but since I hadnt recieved it yet. I thought I would ask about it. When you sign up and place orders do you still also get the 4 tarts for a penny too? I am a little confused and didnt want to bombard them with more dumb questions.lol

Have you checked their Facebook page? They mentioned that they just shipped a bunch of stuff and are behind because one of them had pneumonia. Yours may have been one of those, especially if it was January 4th for a ship date.

I'd emailed to ask and hadn't heard back, so I called. If you emailed and haven't heard back you might call and ask. If nothing else, you could add your club to the next order. Mine was added, but my order hadn't shipped. Actually, it *still* hasn't shipped but after reading that someone has pneumonia I know to expect a delay.

I think the 4-for-a-penny is a separate thing. So if you order $30 worth of stuff, you'd get that plus your free 6 pack. If you ordered $10 worth of stuff, you'd just get your 6 pack (because I think it's $30 to qualify for the penny tarts). I had a 4-for-a-penny in my last order and when I added the club, Achilles told me to make sure and list my 6 pack scents too, so it sounds like you get both if you spend enough.

I took the plunge and signed up for it.lol lets hope I will not run into $ issues for ordering.For my 6pk I've added so far dill pickle,sweet breads,sweet potatoe bread,deep fried vanilla apples and need two more. descisions descisions. I haven't tried their candles yet, so this will be a great start!
do they have a scent list for the lush types? I havent tried lush before.

They do have a Lush section on their website (look on the left where their links are). I'm not a Lush-ie so can't offer an opinion of them.

All other FB sale orders are anticipated to be out before the end of the week


That's from their Facebook page. Their TAT is running behind due to pneumonia, plus they posted that the store was closed today due to the bad weather. They got whammied from all sides!

I placed my original order on the 4th and then added a club membership on the 5th. Asked them to combine shipping and then credit paypal. I have not received a reply to my email and am waiting for the CnS. I figure it should be this week and that they will answer my email when processing my order.

I'm trying to be patient because it stinks one of them was sick with pnuemonia. I'm going crazy waiting for my CnS though (ordered Dec 28th). Low on LOL is a bad place to be for me.

Did you add to your order after the 28th?

PS - I just got an email from Allison and she's been trying to do the L'Amour de Mamie candle without success, so she's offered to send me something else so my order isn't delayed any longer. Apparently that blend doesn't work well in candle form. Another good reason to love those tart warmers! That's the only way to get my L'Amour de Mamie fix.
