Good Morning All!
I know this company is not on the poll list but I LOVE their jar candles. It is Ashman Candles. They come in 25 oz, 12 oz and 3 oz. They also have melts but I have never tried.
I had a neighbor who gave me one as a gift years ago and I have been hooked ever since. You can buy directly from:

I picked PI because their candles do burn beautifully. For me, second place would be YC. If they made all of their candles with 2 wicks then YC would be my first pick because I'm not too crazy about frosted jars.

I picked Gold Canyon, but I also really like...

Goose Creek
Crossroads Candles
McCall's
Colonial
Slatkin 3-wick jars from B&BW/Whie Barn

Good ones, Aria. I haven't tried Crossroads Candles. Have a linky?

Hi Jules! Sure do have a linky!

Denise:

I know what you mean. It's expensive to buy a candle that lacks fragrance/throw but when you spend a few bucks on a clamshell then it's not a bad deal. Trust me, I am learning a LOT since joining this group.

I am going to try a lot more of PI's clamshells before buying any other candles, that's for sure!!!

fruitloop and bigred,

Sorry I couldn't respond earlier. This has been one hectic day for me.

FYI - Ashman Candles' melts are called Beanie Melts. There is a home decor store near me called Tai Pan that sells the Beanie Melts. The melts are really good. You get 7.5oz of melts for $7.95. They are sold in clamshell like packaging and instead of 6 break aparts you actually get 20! The Tropical Lime is my favorite. It is very strong and the throw is unbelievable with just one little part. Their Honeydew Melon and Maui Mango are very good but not as strong. A friend of mine loves the Linen which fills her two story home quite well. The store does not sell their candles unfortunately.

Our Forum is currently featuring Ashman Candles in The Melting Pot section. The topic is "What's New? May 2009" which is right under the favorite scent polls.

fruitloop - Are the candles you have tried the Premium Scented Jar Candle (soy) or the Natural Wax Candle (vegetable wax)? Do you consider their candles to be strong? How do they burn? I would love to get a candle of Tropical Lime.

Cisley,

Likewise, after many a candle purchase mistake I have learned that if I try the melts first, and then I buy my candles based on the strength and throw of the melt, I'm usually happy with the candle. I like strong scented candles with a good throw since I have an open floor plan. If the melt is really strong with a good throw then the candle usually works for me too.

Hello! I have also learned , when trying candles from a new vendor, to try the smallest size, even if it's not the best $ value. (or, like you all said- try a tart first or even a votive)

With regard to CBV- I have been pleased. I had an Apple Cobbler jar that everyone in the house said smelled like kerosene! But, Victoria let me exchange it which I thought was nice. I also did not like Lovin' Lemon in candle form, but I bet the tarts would be fine. I have tried , and loved these in jars: Gardenia, Sweet Rose, Rose, Breath of Ireland, Caramel Ginger Apple Crisp (Comfort Candle), and Cinnamon Gingerbread Latte. These all smelled great and burned nicely.

For strong scent, long and even burn, Gold Canyon is still my #1 favorite though!

scentedstamper,

Thanks for the info on CBV. The Caramel Ginger Apple Crisp sounds wonderful!

FYI - I'm scheduled to meet with a GC demo this coming Tuesday. I can't wait to sample the scents and hopefully purchase a candle. I really what to give them a try. This demo lives only two miles from my home. Convenient!

LLVV,

PI's frosted jars bug me too. I really like to see the flame when I burn a candle.

Denny- Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Thanks for the great info about the beanie melts. Funny, when I think beanie melt, I think of really small beads but these look like a good size. I will make sure I order these next time a place an Ashman order.
I have tried the Premium Scented Jar Candles in the 3oz and 12 oz size. 3oz has 1 wick, 12oz 2wicks. Reason I have not bought a 25 oz is because it would take forever for me to burn and I like changing scents up. I find them to be strong. Especially the Apple Jack. Last time I ordered, I tried an aromatherpy scent in lavender-eucayptus& peppermint that was in a pretty square container. Took a while for a even pool to form on this one and the scent was nice but not very powerful. Up until this point I have only ordered their regular scents which I have been extremely please with. I also ordered a pillar candle which I have not burned it did not have much of a cold scent. Seems like that is a constant issue with most pillars for me anyway so no big deal. One other thing, there is no info about TAT on the web site so first time I ordered, I sent them an email a few days later asking about when the order would be processed and received an immediate reply from Todd, the owner saying they were working on the order and it should go out in 2 days. Shortly after that, he emailed and then called me advising they were sold out of the color melter I wanted and I could either select another color or they would refund the cost of the melter. I opted for the refund and a check came with my order. I do try other companies for container candles but still come back to Ashman especially for gifts because I know I will be giving a reliable candle. Hope this helps.

I can't believe I forgot to mention that I really like BBW's Slatkin Candles too. The main reason is return policy ~ 100% guaranteed.

The second reason is Vanilla Coconut - it is wonderful. I also like their Cinnamon Stick and Cinnamon & Clove. All are strong and I always burn 2 at a time. I do the 3-wick and the small ones and ALWAYS get them on sale.

I picked LOL, which I think burn wonderfully and have a great throw. I do love the look and sound of Woodwick candles, and my Spotted Hog candles were very strong too. I think I prefer LOL because of my short smell-tention span... I like the layers. I think if I could layer a Spotted Hog candle I would try more of them.

Ditto, Darling. I like to have a wide selection of candles in different scents, and then they accumulate because I buy them faster than they get used up, because of the scent variety thing. I am looking forward to the next layer of my current LOL candle!

Thanks to all of you for voting and posting replies!

Pure Integrity, Gold Canyon and Yankee Candle received the most votes. Other vendors mentioned, but not included in the poll, were Cheryl's Candles and Gifts, Busy Bee, Candles by Victoria, Colonial, Goose Creek, McCall's, Crossroads Candles, B&BW Slatkin, and Ashman Candles.

Thanks again!
